Douglas Lurie was born in Boston in 1950 and lived on Seaver Street in Roxbury until his family moved to Randolph in 1958.

After graduating from Randolph High School in 1967, Doug earned an Associates Degree from Quincy College and then a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Boston State College in 1972.  After working for St. Johnsbury Trucking Company and various sales jobs, he opened a retail concession at Bob’s Discount in Revere from 1978-1991.

Doug established and became proprietor of Doug’s Bargains on Broadway in Chelsea, MA in 1991 and Doug’s Jewelers, in Chelsea in 1997, working there until 2009. As part of the Chelsea community, Doug served on the Board of Directors of the Chelsea Chamber of Commerce and was Past-President of the Chelsea Kiwanis Club.   Most recently he was a member of the management team at the original Bob’s Discount in New Bedford, MA and he was passionate about working at the Revere Flea Market every Sunday.

Doug was an active member of Temple Beth Am.  He was an Advisor and Youth Director of Randolph USY from 1975-1978 when the youth group had a membership of more than 400, the largest in the New England Region.  Doug served on the Temple Beth Am House Committee, was a member and past Co-Chairman of the Youth Committee, and was a long-serving member of both the Temple Beth Am Board of Directors and the Temple Beth Am Brotherhood Board of Directors.  In 2013 the New England Region of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs awarded Doug the Keeper of the Flame Award, which honors leadership in Jewish life.

A Free Mason since 1971, Doug was a third generation Past Master of Germania Lodge (now The Consolidated Lodge, A.F. & A.M.) and was a Past President of the First Worshipful Masters Association of Massachusetts.

Doug loved learning and speaking Spanish, talking about and eating food, going out to restaurants, driving and exploring.  He greatly enjoyed his most recent trip to Israel, and vacations in Cape Cod and Maine.  Most of all, he passionately loved his family and (hundreds of friends).

Doug made his home in Randolph with his wife of 41 years, Cindy.  He has three children: Devra Dutton and her husband Zachary of Arlington; David of New York City; Robert of Quincy; and two granddaughters, Sylvie and Cora Dutton…all of whom were the lights and loves of his life.
