Josephine (Varnick) Alpert, 100, of Weston, MA, formerly of Newton and Gloucester, MA, on Friday, August 29,2014. Beloved wife of the late Louis Dana Alpert, and devoted daughter of the late Edith and Samuel Varnick. Loving mother of Stephen S. and Stephanie Alpert, Carol and James Herscot, Ferne and the late Howard Arbetter, and Cheryl Alpert and Thomas Timko. Proud grandmother of Jill Herscot and her husband Andrew Bartley, and Bradley Herscot, Charles Alpert and his wife Nikki, Heidi McNeil and her husband John, and Andrew Alpert, Arthur and Edie Arbetter, Ann Fischell, Joan Rosenberg, Ellen Spear, and Eben and Louis Chason Timko, and 17 great-grandchildren. Josephine was elegant and gracious, never letting age or poor eyesight get in her way. She was the moral and emotional center of a generationally and geographically extended family that will miss her always optimistic perspectives. Graveside services at Sharon Memorial Park on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 10:45 am. Following services, memorial observance will be at the home of Ferne Arbetter until 8 pm Wednesday evening.
