Herbert Naradoff Goodwin, age 80, of Brookline, surrounded by his family on June 26, 2015. Born in Brookline to the late Joseph and Belle Ginsberg, Herb was a loving husband to Rhoda Goodwin and a devoted father to Joanne Goodwin, Lauren Berkowitz and her husband Adam, and Carolyn Goodwin and her husband Dan. He also leaves his grandson Gabriel Goodwin Berkowitz, his brother, Richard Naradoff Goodwin and his wife Doris, and many loving family and friends.Herb was born in Brookline and attended Brookline High School, Tufts University and New York University School of Law. Herb presided as the Brookline District Court Judge until his retirement in 2001. Prior to becoming a judge, he conducted a private law practice for many years in Boston. He also served in the Tax Division of the Department of Justice, as an assistant U.S. attorney in Boston, as Chief of the Consumer Protection Division of the State Attorney General’s Office, and as Chairman of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission. A citizen activist, he served on many Brookline town committees and associations.Most of all, Herb was a courageous, deeply kind, and compassionate man who befriended without judgment and loved with all his heart.Services will be held at Temple Israel, 477 Longwood Avenue (parking on the Riverway), Boston at 11 am on Monday, June 29th. Following interment at Baker Street Cemetery, West Roxbury, family and friends are invited to the family home until 5 pm. Memorial observance will continue on Tuesday, June 30 and Wednesday, July 1 from 4 pm to 8 pm at the family home.
