of Brookline, a retired Brookline town meeting member and Newton High School guidance counselor. Mrs. Trachtenberg, 86, died Saturday after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Trachtenberg worked for 26 years running the Newton (North) High School Career Guidance Resource Center, where thousands of students have been provided with information that assisted them in making informed decisions about their futures. The Career Center received national recognition and was renamed the Trachtenberg Career Center upon her retirement in 1994. Mrs. Trachtenberg also served on the Brookline town meeting for many years, starting in 1989. She was a tireless advocate for the Brookline community. Her many years of service were recognized by the Civic Recognition Award in 2013. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she graduated from the City College (Baruch College) of New York with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1950. She attended Boston University and received her master’s degree in Education in 1968. Mrs. Trachtenberg had served on the Brookline Advisory Committee and the Brookline Council for the Arts and Humanities. She had been a resident of both Newton and Brookline since 1963. Mrs. Trachtenberg was predeceased by her husband, Jesse Myron Trachtenberg; and leaves two sons and a daughter in law, Mark David Trachtenberg of Allston, MA and Alan Israel and Duchy Miriam Trachtenberg of North Bethesda, MD. Services at Cong. Kehillath Israel, 384 Harvard St., Brookline, Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 10 am. Burial will follow at Wellwood Cemetery, West Babylon, N.Y.
