of Belmont, formerly of Newton, passed away peacefully with his children at his side, Friday, October 30th, after a long illness. Herb was born in Boston on November 6, 1925. He graduated from Milton High School and Harvard College, and served in the Navy in WWII. Herb ran the family hardware business, and was an avid sports fan. Through the years he served on the Newton School Committee, the Harvard 1947 class committee, and was active in other local, civic and Democratic politics, including serving on Michael Dukakis’ gubernatorial and presidential campaigns. Herb will be forever remembered by his children Sally of Washington, DC; Ellen of Portland, OR; and David of Burbank, CA; his step-children Moss Hansen of Brewster, MA; and Andrew Hansen of Ft Lauderdale by the Sea, FL; and his three grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to a gathering in Herb’s honor on Friday, November 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. at O’Hara’s, 1185 Walnut Street, Newton Highlands, MA.
