Robert Speen

Robert (Bob) Speen of Framingham, MA passed away on Monday, October 17 after battling a long illness. Devoted husband for 61 years to his wife Sonya and beloved father of Jeffrey Speen and his wife Trish of Mendon, MA. Bob also leaves his dear big brother George Speen of Dedham, MA and many loving nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother William Speen and sister Bertha Glatzer.
Born in Boston on April 29, 1930 to Russian immigrant parents, Bessie and Harry Speen, Bob was raised in Roxbury and Dorchester and was a graduate of Jeremiah E. Burke H.S. He was a top-notch salesman for his brother’s footwear business, Speen and Company, for nearly forty years. He enjoyed travel so much that he continued to work nationwide trade shows for the company even after retirement. Bob had an avid interest in business, politics and sports and was a lifelong Red Sox fan. He was an award winning bowler and maintained daily workouts at his favorite health club well into his senior years. With a close circle of friends he enjoyed weekly poker games and membership in an impromptu local “Breakfast Club.” He spent many happy summers at the family home on Cape Cod where he enjoyed the company of family and friends.
Bob’s family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Wingate at Sudbury for their tender and loving care throughout Bob’s stay at the facility.
There will be a graveside service at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon, MA on Thursday, October 20 at 11:45 am. Following the service family and friends are invited to his residence until 7:30 pm, and from 12-4 pm on Friday Oct. 21. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to The National Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor Ave Suite 2, Norwood, MA 02062.
