Jon Perlman

October 21, 2019

Jon Eliot Perlman, 69, of Sudbury, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2019, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with Leukemia. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Fran, children Jeffrey and his wife Jill of Moraga, California, and Daniel and his wife Rachel, as well as his brother Robert and his wife Lesley of Newton, and his brother-in-law Harvey Kletz and his wife Abbey of Berkeley, California. He is also survived by his five adored grandchildren, Lev, Eli, Maya, Lily, and Caleb.

Jon enjoyed a decades long career dedicated to helping others as a clinical psychologist. He lived for football Sundays, the comedy greats, and a good bowl of spaghetti and meatballs. He cherished his family above all else. Jon drew far more enjoyment from giving than receiving, both personally and professionally. He will live on in the memory of his family, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and love.

Relatives and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Jon’s life on Wednesday, October 23 at Temple Isaiah, 55 Lincoln Street, Lexington, MA, at 10:00 am, followed by burial at Mishkan Tefila Memorial Park, 2625 Centre St, West Roxbury, MA. Following interment, a meal of condolence at the home of Fran and Jon Perlman until 4pm. Shiva will be held at Fran and Jon’s house on Wednesday, 7-9 pm minyan at 7:30, Thursday, 7-9 pm minyan at 7:30, Friday 2-4 pm, and Sunday 2-4 pm. Shiva will continue at Robert and Lesley Perlman’s home Monday, October 28 at 7-9 am with minyan at 7 am, 1-4 pm and 7-9 pm with minyan at 7:30 pm.

Martha Gordon

Martha Gordon -Age 102, of Newton, on October 20, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Nathan Gordon. Loving mother of Paul and Linda Gordon, Patti and Marvin Coan, and Susan and Alan Bell. Cherished grandmother of Mark, Michael (Gia) and Rob (Lauren) Gordon, Brandon(Summer) and Spencer Coan, and Alex and David Kaplan. Great-grandmother of Dean Gordon and Simon Coan. Dear sister of the late Florence Taitelbaum and Selma Davidson. Proud World War 2 veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. Funeral services at Wilson Chapel, 234 Herrick Rd., Newton, MA on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 11:00am, followed by burial at Lindwood Memorial Park, 490 North Street, Randolph, MA. Marvin H. Lourie

Marvin H. Lourie, 86, of Chicago, Illinois died peacefully on October 19, 2019 at The Carrington at Lincolnwood, in Lincolnwood, Illinois. Born on December 20, 1932 in Brookline, Massachusetts, he is predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Sadie (Korelitz) Lourie; his sister, Miriam (Louis) Chandler; his brothers, Samuel (Fredda) Lourie and Sheldon (Dorothy) Lourie; and his son-in-law, Morris Benatar of Atlanta, Georgia. Survivors include his long-time companion, Marilyn Bard of Skokie, IL; his son, Alexander (Mary Beth) Lourie of Northbrook, IL; his daughter, Diane (Lourie) Benatar of Johns Creek, GA; four grandchildren, including three granddaughters, Leah (David) Gordon of Atlanta, GA; Katherine Lourie of Chicago, IL and Caroline Lourie of Skokie, IL and a grandson, Dr. Steven (Taylor) Benatar of Atlanta, GA; his great-grandson, Michael Gordon of Atlanta, GA; and many nieces and nephews, as well as many friends from the myriad of places he lived, especially Chicago and  Manzanillo, Mexico. Jaimi Abrahms

Abrahms, Jaimi, of Dorchester, MA, on October 17, 2019. Dear daughter of Jonathan Quentin Abrahms, and the late Gail Lorraine (Gold) Abrahms.
Loving sister of Tracy Gaudiano and her husband Francis, and Nathaniel Abrahms and his wife Natalie.
Jaimi is survived by beloved friend and roommate Rachel Frey, and the wonderful Boston Home community.

Born in 1973 at Boston Floating Hospital, Jaimi was diagnosed with Familial Dysautonomia at a young age. Despite her disability, Jaimi lived her life to the fullest. She grew up in Swampscott, MA, moved to Sarasota, FL, and then moved back to The Boston Home. Jaimi will always be remembered for her ability to touch people’s hearts.

Graveside service at New Tifereth Israel Cemetery, Everett, MA, on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jaimi’s memory may be made to The Boston Home, 2049 Dorchester Ave., Boston, MA 02124.

Leonard H. Lit

Lit, Leonard H., 86, of Randolph, October 13, 2019. Beloved husband of the late Barbara C. Lit. Devoted father of Barry Lit and his wife Susan and Nancy Mills and her husband Brian. Proud grandpa to Isaac, Rachel, Tyler and Trevor. Brother of Ida Klane, Dubby Uretsky and the late Joe Lit and Harry Lit.

Services will be on Wednesday October 16, 2019 at 10 am at Sharon Memorial Park Chapel, 40 Dedham St, Sharon, MA. Interment will follow. Shiva will be at the home of Barry and Susan Lit following interment until 8 pm and Thursday, October 17, from 12 – 7 pm.

Gloria Cohen

October 13, 2019

COHEN, Gloria, 87, of Peabody, passed away on October 12, 2019 at the Brudnick Center in Peabody, MA. Gloria was the daughter of the late Myer and Anne Bornstein. She was born on December 31, 1931 in Peabody and graduated Peabody High School in 1950. Gloria was a lifelong resident of Peabody. In 1953, she married her  husband Julian, who passed away in 2006.

Gloria worked for many years as a secretary, retiring from the JB Thomas Hospital. She was an avid mahjong player and bowler with her friends. She loved to knit, making sweaters and hats for anyone. She also enjoyed needle point, painting and calligraphy. Julian and Gloria spent every summer Saturday at their favorite beach, Good Harbor Beach, reading, walking and enjoying family and friends.

They spent winters in Florida for more than 25 years, traveling from Peabody to Delray Beach.

Gloria is survived by her sons, Stephen and his partner Karen, and Paul and his wife Amy, grandchildren Amy and her husband Lou, Brian and his wife Tara, Alyssa and her husband Enx, Jason and his wife Melissa, great-grandchildren JJ, Delilah, Edith, Oliver, Julian and Reese, and her sister and best friend, Ruth Kahn and her husband Eric. Gloria is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her friend and companion, Abe Ogman. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services at Chapel at Maple Hill Cemetery, 98 Canterbury Dr., Peabody, on Tuesday, October 15,2019 at 1:00 pm. Shiva at the home of Paul and Amy Cohen in Waltham on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00-9:00 pm.

Marilyn B. Miller

Marilyn B. Miller, 93, of Newton died on Thursday, October 10, 2019.  Marilyn was born in 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Harry and Dorothy (Asbyll) Barlin. After high school she worked for the City of New York and started training as a classical singer. She met her husband Aaron at the Laurels Hotel and Country Club in the Catskills where they both worked during the summer of 1943. After marrying, they moved to Rochester, New York where Aaron began his medical career and Marilyn started a promising career as a mezzo soprano.

In the early 1950’s they moved to Boston. Marilyn continued to sing at local venues in Boston throughout the 1950’s and early 1960’s. She also studied at Northeastern University, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree cum laude from Pine Manor College.

Along with her husband, she shared a passion for literature, music, and movies. She was a voracious reader and, in her later years, ran a contemporary fiction book club at the Newton Free Library. She also loved travel and she and Aaron spent much time rambling through Europe – Spain was her favorite destination.

Aaron passed away in 2016. Marilyn is survived by her daughter Julie and her husband Paul Dansereau of Boston, her sister-in-law, Beatrice Donovan of Evanston, Illinois, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Marilyn will be held at 10:00 am at Newton Cemetery Chapel, 791 Walnut Street, Newton Centre, MA on Thursday, October 17, 2019. Visitation at the cemetery chapel prior to service from 9:00-9:45 am. There will be a reception immediately following the service at the Miller residence in Newton Centre.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders or The Newton Free Library.

Ruth (Reiser) Wechsler

Ruth (Reiser) Wechsler, of Weston, MA passed away on October 6, 2019 at the age of 90. She had a smile that lit up every room. Ruth was intelligent, athletic, disciplined, and beautiful. A woman of indomitable will and remarkable energy, she became a champion tennis player in her youth, ranking 1st in the Eastern U.S. for girls 16 and under. She chose to pursue higher education over professional tennis, however, entering Brooklyn College at age 16, where she studied to become a teacher. Later, at a time when few women earned graduate degrees or worked outside the home, Ruth received her PhD in psychology from New York University and became a practicing child psychologist, working as a diagnostician in public school systems and clinics in Massachusetts and Connecticut. In 1949, she married Harry C. Wechsler; their union would last more than 68 years and produce three children and five grandchildren. Ruth and Harry traveled extensively; patronized the arts, especially the Boston Symphony Orchestra; and were known among their large circle of friends for their elegance, generosity, and marvelous dinner parties. Ruth’s loving heart, steadfast morality, and respect for all she met was deeply appreciated and will be long remembered.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Mia Doron of Durham, NC; Dana Linden of New York, NY; and Sharon Jacques of Oakland, CA; her sons-in-law, Scott Doron, Lawrence Linden, and Michael Jacques; and her grandchildren, Lily Doron, Tess Linden, Maya Linden, Anna Craig, and Nathan Jacques. A small graveside service for immediate family was held Tuesday Oct. 8, 2019 at the Beit Olam East Cemetery.
