FREEDMAN, Miriam of Newton, passed away Oct 6, 2019, age 91.
Elementary school teacher and watercolor artist.
Beloved wife of the late Nathan Freedman for 56 years. Devoted Mother of Joel Freedman and his wife Ann Risso of Lincoln, Daniel Freedman of Boston, and Dina Freedman of Wellesley. Loving bubbe to Isabel Freedman and David Freedman. Private service will be held at Lindwood Memorial Park, Randolph. Shiva will be observed at the home of Joel and Ann on Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 2-5 pm. Silverstein, Ann (Wallerstein)
Age 93, of Newton, MA, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2019. Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Ann moved away to earn a B.A. from University of Michigan and study at Bank Street College of Education in New York. While living in New York, she met and in 1950 married Joseph Lee Silverstein, Jr., a lawyer from Charleston, West Virginia. The couple lived in several different cities, including Chicago, while raising two daughters. After her husband’s untimely death in 1968, Ann moved back to Richmond. A firm believer in social justice, she taught preschool children of all races at the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club in Chicago, at Grace House in Richmond, and at the Medical College of Virginia. In the 1970’s, she completed an M.A. in Early Childhood Education from Goddard College in Vermont. After her retirement from teaching, she worked at Beth Ahabah Museum & Archives in Richmond, where she helped researchers learn about the area’s Jewish community. Ann avidly followed current events by reading at least two newspapers each day, cutting out articles that interested her, and sending numerous packets of clippings to those who were close to her. Concerts, museums, adult education courses, and daily swims and walks (preferably with a beloved dog), kept her in good health into her 90’s. In 2000, she moved to the Lasell Village Senior Community in Newton to live near her daughter, Clara, who survives her. She is also survived by Clara’s husband, George Schnee, and their children, Jordan and Martha. Her daughter, Janet, predeceased her. She also leaves many cousins and close friends. Avram Kalisky, of Lincoln, Massachusetts, died peacefully on September 30, 2019 at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Esther F. (Sotenberg) Kalisky, his three children, Lyvia of Jerusalem, Ilona of Waltham, and Matthew Kalisky of Newton, and his two grandchildren, Zara and Coltrane Kalisky-Tetreault, both of Waltham. He was born in New York City and graduated from the Bronx High School of Science. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge, he volunteered for the Israeli Navy. He rejoined the Israeli Navy after his marriage. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and later obtained a Masters from Northeastern University. He resided in Sudbury, Massachusetts until 1972 when he went to Israel with his family. He and his wife have lived in Lincoln since 1994. Michael was an admired professor at the School of Hospitality Administration at Boston University for 30 years. He had an amazing sense of humor and was a kind, loving and giving soul. With his strength and grace he was a uniting force that brought people together. Michael enjoyed golf, time at Lake George and was an avid Boston sports fan. Most of all he valued his friendships and loved his family and spending time with them.

Ronnie Lynne (Freedman) Kaster of Millis, Massachusetts entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 23, 2019 due to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease. Ronnie was born March 21, 1938 to the late Edward & Frieda Freedman, and is predeceased by her sister Marilyn (Freedman) Braverman. She is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 59 years, Leonard “Butch” Kaster. Ronnie is also survived by her children, David Kaster and his wife Myra Lee, Dr. Bruce Kaster and his wife Madelon, Robin-Sue DeSimone and her husband Gino. Ronnie had the blessing of being a grandmother to 8 wonderful grandchildren, and more recently, 2 great-grandchildren. Ramona D. Briss, 92, died peacefully on September 19, 2019. Mona, as she was known, was the loving of wife of the late Herbert Briss, devoted mother to her son Jeff and his partner Dorothy of San Francisco and daughter Judy and her husband Tom of Bellingham. Herb and Mona established their home in Framingham where they lived for over 50 years before moving to Westborough in 2012.Mona was a great cook and loved having family and friends over for the Jewish Holidays. Her latkes, matzo balls and chicken soup were the best! Services will be private.
