Gertrude “Gert” Goldberg, of Brookline, formerly of Brighton, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2019 in her home with family by her side. She was 101 years old. Gert was the matriarch of a large and loving family. She was first woman to give birth to triplets at Beth Israel Hospital.

Dear daughter of the late Sam and Ida (Skalsky) Sulkin. Beloved wife of the late William “Bill” Goldberg. Cherished sister of the late Billy Sulkin and late Pearlie Chamlin. Devoted mother of Richard Goldberg and his wife Ilene of Beverly, Barbara Chandler and her late husband Robby of Lexington, Judi Goldberg of Waltham, Alan Goldberg and his wife Beth of North Attleboro, and David Goldberg and his husband Chai Fu Chang of Scottsdale, AZ. Proud grandmother of Sarah Chandler, Aaron Goldberg and his fiancé Michelle DuBow, Lily Chandler, Daniel Goldberg, Rusty Chandler, Jordan Goldberg and his fiancé Rachel Park, Ariella Goldberg and her husband Jakob Sedig, Adrienne Goldberg and her partner Tim Ormerod, Lauren Goldberg and her husband Dan Parsons. Also survived by two great-grandchildren, Rafael Gell and Grant Ormerod, as well as many caring nieces and nephews.

Services at Temple Ohabei Shalom, 1187 Beacon St., Brookline, MA, on Wednesday, June 19, at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon. Shiva will be at her home following the funeral until 7:00 pm, and will continue Thursday 1-3 & 6-8 pm and Friday 1-3 pm. Donald Grossman, of Needham, passed away on June 9, 2019 at the Stanley Tippett Home in Needham with his family by his side. Beloved husband of Sheila (Koss) Grossman. Adored father of Julie Kapadia and Jaynie Martin and her husband Chris. Cherished grandfather of Jonathan and David. Dear brother of Barbara Chaiton and the late Geraldine Bailen. Also survived by caring nieces and nephews. Services at Temple Beth Shalom, 670 Highland Ave., Needham, MA, Friday, June 14, 2019, at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in the Independent Workman’s Circle Cemetery, 776 Baker St., West Roxbury, MA. Nancy Steg died peacefully on June 10, 2019 at the age of 91, surrounded by her family. She was born in Uzhgorod, Hungary in 1927 to Moishe Steg and Blime Kraus. She lost her extended family, parents, and younger brother, Josef, in Auschwitz and Buchenwald. At age 15, Nancy survived in the camps, alongside her sister, Lily, for over a year before liberation. Nancy is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Hutton and Barbara Epstein, her sons in law David Caplan and Daniel Hutton. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Michael Epstein. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Eli Hutton, Miriam Hutton, Rachel Hutton, Emily Caplan and Michaela Caplan, and her sister, Lily Schmidmayer. Nancy loved her family fiercely and felt immense pride watching her grandchildren succeed in higher education. She made close friends in her life, all of whom she touched with her sense of humor and loyalty. Her loss is felt deeply by all those who loved her, and her memory is a blessing. Despite having a youth marred by darkness, Nancy, with her sister Lily, came to America at age 19 and started anew. Education was of central importance to Nancy. She not only went on to get her GED in a language that was new to her, but she also earned her bachelors’ degree, a masters’ in education, and a masters’ in computer science. She loved traveling, nature, and art. Nancy embodied resilience, independence, and perseverance. The rare times that Nancy spoke of her past, she did so while calling for others to value diversity and to stand against injustice. In her own words, from 2001:

“A second later would have been too late for more thousands of prisoners, including probably too late for me. A second can make a difference. And one person can make a difference. If we want a future, let us keep teaching that differences in culture, religion, national origin do not deprive nations, they enrich them.”

There will be a graveside service for Nancy on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 1:00 pm  at Crawford Street Memorial Park, 776 Baker St., West Roxbury. It will be followed by Shiva from 2-6 pm at Maplewood at Weston, 99 Norumbega Rd, Weston. Patricia Ruth Needle died Friday, June 7, 2019 after a long battle with Parkinson’s. She was 72 and resided in Hudson, MA. Patricia was born in Mattapan, MA on February 2, 1947 to Miriam and Sam Needle. She is survived by her siblings, Burgess and his partner Marcia, Matthew, Clare, David and his wife Lynne, and Aaron. In addition to her siblings, she leaves her nieces and nephews, Donna, Felicia, Deborah, Hannah, Naomi, Jason, Mike and their families, along with many cousins and wonderful friends, all of whom she loved dearly. A longtime resident of Newton,MA as well as San Francisco, where she worked for years as a caring and much-loved psychiatric nurse, Pat was known for her generosity, her love of travel and meeting new people. Nothing made Pat happier then bringing a smile or joy to anyone with whom she came in contact. She’ll be greatly missed by so many people whose lives she touched. She was a volunteer and supporter of many political and social causes. Graveside service at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon, MA, on  Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 11:45 am. Shiva will be at the home of Felicia Moschella and Terri Smith following burial until 7 pm and continuing Thursday 3-7 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Patty’s memory may be made to PD Active, P.O. She was a proud and hardworking woman who will always be remembered for her feistiness, radiant smile, and the twinkle in her eyes.
