Sandra Dorothea (Wainhouse)Miller, age 83, of Sharon, MA, passed away peacefully on Oct. 12, 2018. Beloved wife of Ralph Miller for 54 years. Devoted mother of Irving Miller, Seth & Lynne Miller and Laura (Miller) Brinkmann & Jonathan Brinkmann. Proud grandmother of Hannah and Hugo. Beloved friend of many. Born and raised in Dorchester, Sandy was the loving daughter of the late Harry and Fay (Perkins) Wainhouse. She worked at MIT Lincoln Lab for eight years, then Northrop for over ten years until she retired in 1993. Sandy and Ralph enjoyed their travels around the globe. Funeral services will be private. Natalie Wasserman Wolf of Newbury New Hampshire, formerly of W. Newton, MA died October 10, 2018. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 47 years, Leo Wolf, and continued to enjoy her later years with her children and grandchildren. Natalie was a devoted and active community member throughout her life. She was committed to making the world around her more beautiful through art, flower arranging, and gardening.
Natalie, along with her family was one of the founding members of Temple Shalom of Newton where she later founded the Temple Shalom Garden Club. Additionally, she founded the Ikebana Japanese Flower Arrangers of Boston, and was a lifetime member and trustee of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. One of her great passions was flower arranging and design, and she traveled worldwide with her daughter and daughter-in-law to judge flower shows as an International Flower Show Judge. Natalie spent many years designing arrangements for the Boston Flower Show, teaching flower arranging, and judging the show.
For over 30 years, Natalie worked to beautify the living spaces of others by using her sense of color and design to furnish and decorate multiple Hebrew Senior Life facilities. Her art installation received national recognition including a feature in the Boston Globe. This work culminated in the acquisition and installation of over 1,000 pieces of art at Newbridge on the Charles.
Her impact has been felt far and wide as she taught many people about art and flower design. Her founding of the Natalie W. Wolf Forum has endowed a biannual symposium on flower design and art, which will be continued after her death.
In 1970, an article in the Boston Globe quoted Natalie’s Secret Desire as to “have done everything I’ve wanted to do; enjoy every day for what interesting things it may bring; but I’d say my hidden desire is to be able to make the day longer.”
Natalie is survived by her son and his wife, Daniel and Beverly Wolf of Newbury, New Hampshire, her daughter and her partner, Anki Wolf and Mark Geer of Newbury, New Hampshire. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Matthew, Jacob, Adam & his wife Ashley, and Elizabeth, to whom she was devoted and was delighted by their every accomplishment. She will be missed dearly for her sense of humor, her many bubby-meises, and her ability to see beauty in everyday life.
Following a private family internment, a celebration of life will be held at Temple Shalom of Newton on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 2 PM. A celebration of life will be held in New Hampshire at a later date. Gordet, Stephen of Exeter, NH, formerly of Westwood, MA, passed away on October 6, 2018. Beloved husband of the late Marilyn (Molliver) Gordet. Devoted father of Elissa Franco and her husband Thomas, and Richard E. Gordet and his wife Sonja Johanson. Loving grandfather of Alison Franco, Zachary Franco, Rigel Johansonjancovic, Acadia JohansonGordet, and Rijs JohansonGordet. Loving brother of the late Ellen Gordet. Born in 1936 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Max and Selma (Feldman) Gordet. Attended Boston Latin School (1952), Harvard College ( 1956) and Harvard Law School (1959). In winters, he loved to ski at Saddleback and Sunday River in Maine. In the summers, he was an avid sailor and loved weekend and longer trips cruising the coasts of Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. He had a fond appreciation for cars, more specifically convertibles and sports cars, and motorcycles. Stephen served on the Planning Board and as Town Moderator for the town of Westwood for many years. Funeral service at the Wilson Chapel, 234 Herrick Rd., Newton., MA on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 at 12 noon. Following the service, memorial observance will be at the home of Elissa and Thomas Franco, 566 High St., Westwood, MA until 7 pm. Ruth (Winick) Shapiro, 87, of Newton, MA passed away peacefully at her home Oct 9, 2018.Beloved wife and best friend of Frederick Shapiro for 63 years. Devoted mother of Audrey & Mark Robinson, and Janet & Ralph Feinberg. Proud grandmother of Andrew, Michael and Jordan. Born and raised in Dorchester, Ruth was the loving daughter of the late Al and the late Ida (Lesser) Winick, and devoted sister of the late Josephine Hurwitz. Caring Auntie Ruthie of 5 beautiful nieces and their loving families. Ruth and Fred were founding members of Temple Beth Avodah in Newton and gave unselfishly to help to build their temple community. Ruth worked tirelessly at their family business side by side with her partners Fred and Janet for the past 40 years. She and Fred shared and enjoyed their travels around the globe with many dear friends. Funeral services will be private. TOCMAN, Adelene Evelyn (Glazer) of Newton and Charlotte, NC died peacefully at home on October 8, 2018 at the age of 98. Beloved wife of the late Sidney Tocman. Daughter of the late Harry and Sarah Glazer. Devoted mother of Cynthia Tocman and her husband, Elliot Schneider of NY and Howard Tocman and his wife Susan of Charlotte, NC. Mary Silverstein, of Concord, passed away October 8.
She was 75 and had been suffering from dementia. Her last days were spent comfortably surrounded by family, with the (recorded) sound of the ocean in her ears.
Mary was born to Celia and Abner Levy in Freeport New York. She attended Baldwin High School, earned an undergraduate degree from Adelphi University and a Master’s in Education from Tufts University. She taught students with special needs in Massachusetts public elementary schools, most recently in Medford and Concord.
Always quick to laugh, Mary’s greatest joy was spending time with her friends and family. She relished a good game of Scrabble where her vocabulary was tough to beat. She is survived by her brother Mark Levy, sons David and Sam Silverstein, their wives Lori Silverstein and Lisa Tabb, her grandchildren Aaron, Abbie, Ryan and Meleah, and her beloved dog Carma.
A memorial service will be held at Wilson Chapel, 234 Herrick Road, Newton at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 11. Friends are invited to celebrate her life following the service at her son David’s home.
The last years of Mary’s life were made comfortable thanks to the extraordinary patience and care provided by the Deaconess Abundant Life Newbury Court facillity in Concord, and contributions in her memory can be made to the New England Deaconess Association Benevolent Fund and sent to 80 Deaconess Road, Concord, MA 01742.
Surrounded by her children and family, Shirley [Segal] Baker passed quietly away at home on October 8, 2018.
Born and raised in Brookline, MA, Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Steven (Suttie) Baker, with whom she shared a wonderful life for sixty-one years until his passing in March of 2006.
There is so much to tell about this beautiful, intelligent, clear thinking, strong, and open-minded woman, but most significantly is how we, her children, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren respected, loved, and cared for her, exactly as she did, us.
Shirley is survived by her son, Neil Baker and his wife, Gail Stickland; her son, Michael Baker and his wife, Deena Baker; her daughter, Joanne Baker, grandchildren Chris and Maisy Baker, Allison Baker Cohen, Samuel Baker and his fiancée, Katie Leighton, Gabe and Lindsey Grossman; and two beloved great-grandchildren, Dylan and Marley Cohen.
Services will be held at Temple Beth Elohim,10 Bethel Rd., Wellesley, on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 10:00 am. Following interment at Mishkan Tefila Cemetery, Centre St., West Roxbury, memorial observance will be at her residence until 8:00 pm, and on Thursday 2-8 pm.

Charles Silk, age 89, of Chestnut Hill passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the VA Hospital in the early morning of Sunday, October 7. Charles was born in Boston to the late Simon and Kate Silk (Bargar). He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Carole (Berman) of 61 years, and his children Ellen of Sharon, Marc of Medfield and Kenneth of Brookline, and was predeceased by his oldest son, Stephen, and his sister, Roslyn Altman. He also leaves behind daughters-in-law Melissa Goodwin Silk, Abigail Gardiner Silk, and Sandi Wolchansky Silk. He was beloved by his six grandchildren Atlee, Kaitlyn, Camilla, Samuel, and Vera Silk, and Michael Broder. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Brenda Berman Leffer, and brothers-in law, Buddy Gross and Richard Leffer, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Charles attended Boston English High School and Boston College before graduating from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and an MBA. He graduated from the Officer Candidate School at the Naval Station Newport, RI and was a Navy Lieutenant in the Korean War. He was a CPA and the co-founder of Business Computer Services and C. Silk and Sons Financial Advisors. He was loyal, hard working, supportive, caring and incredibly devoted to his family.
The funeral will be held at Temple Beth David, 7 Clapboardtree Street, Westwood, at 11 am on Wednesday, October 10 followed by memorial observance at his son Kenneth’s home. Shiva will continue on Thursday, October 11 at his daughter’s home from 3:00 pm-5:00 pm and 7:00 pm-9:00 pm and his son Marc’s home Friday from 2:00 pm-5:00 pm. Sadie (Adelman) Stepner, age 104, of Millis, MA, formerly of Natick and Framingham, passed away October 8, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late Meyer and Rachel Adelman and was married to Neil Stepner, who predeceased her. She was one of the first families to establish Temple Israel, Natick, and was an active member for over 60 years. In addition to raising her family she will be remembered as a renowned cake decorator and baker who composed a cookbook for her family. She also made cakes for Temple Israel and taught baking at Keefe Technical School to at-risk students. An avid world traveler, she loved London and never lost her interest for adventure. She loved shopping and dining out. Interested in world and current events, she enjoyed reading good books, was a supporter of women in politics, and was a kind, loving friend to many. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones and friends, all whom she touched in so many ways during her long life. She is survived by her son, Donald L. Stepner, Union, KY; her daughters, Laraine Stepner, Framingham, MA; Enid Stepner, Millis, MA; her brother, Harold Adelman, Freehold, NJ; grandchildren, David Stepner and Jeffrey Stepner of Kentucky; and five great-grandchildren, all of Kentucky. Four siblings predeceased her. Services at Temple Israel, Natick, Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 10:30 am, followed by interment at Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon, MA.
