Melvin D. Hoffman

September 19, 2013

Melvin D. Hoffman, 76, of 14 Hickory Drive, died on Thursday, September 19,2013, at Vibra-Western MA Hospital in Leicester.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Ilene (Rudner) Hoffman; three sons, Richard Hoffman and his wife Jodi of Shrewsbury, Alan Hoffman and his wife Kathy of Avon, MA and Lawrence Hoffman and his wife Sharon of Worcester; a brother, Dr. Howard Hoffman and his wife Sophie of Fairfax Station,VA; five grandchildren, Leila, William, Meagen, Allyson and Julie, and a great granddaughter, Wren.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY, and was a son of Theodore and Mae (Ganslaw) Hoffman and lived in Worcester for 44 years.
He graduated Clark University with an associate degree in mechanical engineering and  received a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Clark University.
From 1970 until 1991 he worked for the family business, Archie’s Motorcycles.
He was a member and past President of Shaarai Torah Synagogue West and  a member of The Auxiliary of The Jewish Healthcare Center.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 12:00 NOON ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, AT SHAARAI TORAH SYNAGOGUE WEST, 835 PLEASANT ST., UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF BREZNIAK RODMAN CHAPELS OF NEWTON. Burial will be in Holy Society Cemetery in Leicester.
Immediately following  interment, Memorial Observance will begin at The Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury St., and will continue  2- 9 pm on Monday Sept. 23 and Tuesday Sept. 24 at his residence, 14 Hickory Drive.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shaarai Torah Synagogue West, 835 Pleasant St., Worcester, MA 01602.

Devoted mother of Jason Goldfarb of Quincy, Rachael McIntyre and her husband Michael of Hopkinton, Alex Goldfarb of Waltham, and Amanda Goldfarb of Las Vegas, NV. Dear grandmother of Raven Goldfarb, Gavin, Rylan, and Owen McIntyre, and Cataleya Tenorio. Loving sister of Cheryl Sherry and Mark Lewis. Services at Temple Beth Sholom, 50 Pamela Rd., Framingham, on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 1:30 PM. Memorial observance will take place at her late residence on Monday following the service until 8:00 PM. Burial will take place at a later date in Las Vegas. Carolyn (Doobin) Gordon

September 15, 2013

Age 95, formerly of Worcester, died on Friday, September 13,2013, in Newbridge On The Charles Healthcare in Dedham. Her beloved husband of 68 years, Samuel Gordon, died in 2007. She leaves a son, Joel Gordon and his wife Melissa Wenig of Cambridge, MA; a daughter, Nancy, wife of David Bayer of Framingham, and  was the proud grandmother of Ellen, Mark, Jennifer and Jessica, and great-grandmother of Ari, Jacob, Alexa, Lucas, Abbey, Conner and Jackson. She was also loved by many nieces and nephews. She was caring to family members and friends. She was a devoted and loving daughter-in-law to Pearl and Reuben Gordon. She was predeceased by her sister, Rosemarie Glick. She was grateful for the quality care and compassion provided by the professional staff and  continuously expressed her gratitude. For the past 2 1/2 years, she thrived at Newbridge On The Charles Healthcare Center. She was a master knitter and baker and generously shared her creations with numerous members of the community. She was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue and its Sisterhood and Worcester Chapter of Hadassah.

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE  AT 11:00 am ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 AT BETH ISRAEL SYNAGOGUE, 15 JAMESBURY DRIVE, WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF BREZNIAK RODMAN CHAPELS OF NEWTON. Burial will be in B’Nai Brith Cemetery, Worcester.

Immediately following  interment, Memorial Observance will begin at Beth Israel Synagogue and will continue through Wednesday afternoon at the residence of Nancy and David Bayer. Memorial contributions may be made to The Hebrew Rehabilitation Center and Newbridge On The Charles Health Care, 7000 Great Meadow Rd., Dedham, MA 02026, Attention Executive Director, or to the charity of the donor’s choice .

Charlotte (Sheingold) Binder

Age 94, formerly of Milton, entered into rest on Saturday, September 14, 2013. Beloved wife of the late Arthur Binder. Devoted mother of Emily and Sumner Blau of Sharon & Jane and Andrew Streisfeld of Needham. Cherished grandmother of Jennifer Schulman, Joshua and Erica Rattet, Adam Streisfeld and Jennifer Thompson, Matthew Streisfeld and his fiancée Carly Cooperman. Also survived by 5 great-grandchildren. Loving sister of the late Leonard Sheingold. Services at Temple Beth Shalom, 670 Highland Ave., Needham, on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Memorial observance will be at the home of Jane and Andrew Streisfeld on Monday and Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Ellen (Headley) Rose

WORCESTER – Ellen (Headley) Rose, 74, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 12,2013, at The Lutheran Home of Worcester after a long illness. She leaves her daughter, Natalie Rose of Worcester and her son, Rogan Russell Marshall and his wife Angela Wilt of Miami, FL; her brother, Nathan Headley and his wife Krista of Greensboro, NC; her brother-in-law, Tom McHugh; and her nieces, Noelle McHugh Ingram, Kristen McHugh Twilley and Kelly McHugh Brandom. Her beloved sister, Ruth McHugh of Missouri City, TX, predeceased her.
Ellen was born in Lewisburg, PA to Dr. Nathan and Ellen Headly. She graduated from Bucknell University and attended Stanford University. Ms. Rose retired from a long career at Metropolitan Life in 2004 and worked as a substitute teacher in the Worcester Public Schools for 10 years. She was a concert level pianist and vocalist whose faith, music and family meant everything to her. She was an active member of Temple Emanuel Sinai.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE  AT 12:00 NOON ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, AT TEMPLE EMANUEL SINAI,  280 MAY ST., Worcester.  Burial will be in B’Nai Brith Cemetery.
Memorial Observance will be held 4- 7 pm on Monday, Sept. 16, at the residence of Brittany and David Danielson, 18 School St., Shrewsbury, MA.

Anita ( Vigoda) West- Of Palm Beach, FL, formerly of Newton and Cape Cod. Loving wife of  Morton West for 68 years. Devoted mother of Susan (West) Horwitz and her husband Alan, Wendy (West) Bronson and her husband Noah, Cindy (West) Ray and her husband Jeffrey. Cherished Sister of Ruth Vigoda Sagan and the late David Vigoda. Adored grandmother of Jordan Ray, Ryan Radkay, Amanda Bronson, Jillian Ray Corbman and Brian Corbman. Step grandmother of Stephanie (Horwitz) Brassie, Robin (Horwitz) Kamin and Steven Kamin, and step great grandmother of 5. The kindest and sweetest of dispositions, Anita was the consummate nurturing family woman who treasured her time with family and friends above all else. An incredible listener with a keen sense of humor, her beautiful smile was ever present to the end. The family expresses their love and gratitude to her caregivers; Meleaquer  Johnson and Maydore  Poiter. Services were held on September 11th in Boynton Beach, FL. Donations may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation or The National Alzheimer’s Association
