Beverly Ina (Melnick) Rosenberg , 89, died peacefully in Highland Beach, Florida on April 26, 2018. She was born in Boston on April 23, 1929, the first of two daughters to Samuel and Claire Melnick. Bev grew up in Dorchester and Mattapan, attended Jeremiah Burke High School, and graduated from Boston Teachers College in 1950. Always curious to know and help people, Bev earned Master degrees in Special Education/Learning Disabilities at Boston University and in Early Childhood Development at Wheelock College, and taught children in this field in the Brookline Schools from the mid- 1970’s through the early 1990’s. Bev sprinkled love and grace to everyone. She valued family very deeply and was a loving and devoted wife to Alvan, mother to Larry, Richard, Jeffrey, and Carol, sister to Marcia Rosen and her husband Walter, mother-in-law to Marga Biller and Bruce Leonard, grandmother to Tyler and Colby Leonard and Mia Rosenberg, aunt to Lee and Dina Rosenberg and to Adam and Lynn Rosen and their families, and a wonderful friend to many. Bev, colloquially endeared as Ina, created a welcoming home in Newton for 55 years, often inviting international students to holiday meals. Any new neighbor was greeted with her trademark nut-and-date bread. Bev and Alvan spent many winters in Poipu Beach, Kauii, and then moved full-time to Florida in 2016. Beverly touched many people with her kind, modest, elegant, open heart and beautiful smile. Beverly brought joy and serenity into our lives. We will miss her deeply. A funeral will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 12:00 PM at the chapel at Sharon Memorial Park in Sharon, MA followed by a shiva gathering at 33 Constitution Road, Lexington, MA. Donations, in Beverly’s name, may be made to Steppingstone Foundation, Boston, MA
