Carolyn Gissen Dedrick, MD

died at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston on May 9, 2015, at the age of 67. Dr. Dedrick grew up in Westbury, NY, attending Carle Place public schools. Her father, Aaron J. Gissen, and mother, Janet Greenberg Gissen were both physicians and Carolyn knew at a young age that she also wanted to be a physician. Carolyn graduated from MIT in 1969, and attended Yale Medical School and Harvard Medical School. She did her residency at Massachusetts General Hospital with a fellowship in interventional  radiology before joining the staff of Lahey Clinic Medical Center, where she worked for 27 years, retiring in 2013. She was instrumental in the development of interventional breast procedures and she was very invested in breast cancer detection. She married John Cuttino in 1992 and together they shared their love of traveling and their home in Newport, RI. They were members of Temple Isaiah in Lexington, MA. Carolyn volunteered at the Lexington Food Pantry. She stayed in touch with her many friends, and her MIT suite-mates stayed close and vacationed together annually. Carolyn is survived by her husband, John Cuttino, her children, Benjamin Eli Dedrick, Rebeccca Erin Dedrick, Alexandra Nicole Dedrick, her stepchildren,  John C. Cuttino, David Cuttino, and Elizabeth Joy Sigona, her mother Dr. Janet Gissen, her sister, Liz Karp and her brother David Gissen and 5 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren. Services will be in the chapel of Sharon Memorial Park, 43 Dedham Street, Sharon, on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 10:00 am.  Following services memorial observance will be at the home of Rebecca Dedrick, in Boylston  until 8 pm. The family requests donations in her memory be made to American Cancer Society or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
