DR. LOUIS J. MICHEELS

Dr. Louis J. Micheels Was Analyst, Holocaust Author Dr. Louis J. Micheels died at home in Newton on his 91st birthday on June 6. Dr. Micheels practiced psychiatry and psychoanalysis in Westport, Conn., for more than 50 years. He also was an associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Yale University. He was a past president and longterm member of the Western New England Psychoanalytic Institute and Society. He was born in the Netherlands and moved to the United States after surviving World War II. He wrote a book about his Holocaust experience titled Dr.117641, which was published by Yale University Press in three languages. He was an avid sailor competing for many years in Atlantic class sailboats, and an accomplished equestrian and woodworker. He was especially fond of his summer home in West Tisbury, which reminded him of his childhood home near the dunes in Holland. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ina; his son Ronald and his daughter Elizabeth, and their spouses, Ann and David; and grandchildren Wyn, Lia, Graham and Erik.
