Joseph Sheldon “Grandpa Joey” Sheinman was born in Far Rockaway, NY August 25, 1925. He was a humble man who happened to be a great athlete, for example, pitching both ends of a double header for playoff bound Adelphi College, and continued throughout his life as a formidable softball and paddleball player. On his 18th birthday, he proudly enlisted in the Navy during WWII. Shortly after his discharge, he married his high school sweetheart (and forever soul mate) Sylvia Marcus. During 67 years of marriage with Sylvia, they built a great close family: their children Patti Sheinman and her husband Daniel Krentzman, Hildy Fischer and her husband Moreland, Laurence Sheinman and his wife Jessica, and Drew Sheinman and his partner Michelle Garland. His grandchildren Dahvi, Brett, Adam, Mollie, Danielle, Rebecca, Jake and Alex. Joes siblings Fred Sheinman and his wife Teri, and Marian and Marv Packer. Their home in Lynbrook, Long Island was also where numerous dogs, cats, guinea pigs and other animals lived and their door was (literally) always open to any and every neighborhood friend. Grandpa Joey believed in the “happy noise” of any gathering, especially if it was with family rooting during a sporting event. He was the champion of the underdog. His zest for life and openness for new friends did not diminish when he and Sylvia moved to Framingham, MA. The circle love was made even greater with the relationships shared with the Krentzman and Lopin families. Joe had an amazing ability to make everyone around him smile and feel special. Whether it be his extended family, Cindy, Leslie, Alan, Julie, Jon, Jill, and “Mikey”, Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Jewish War Veterans of the United States, Metrowest JWV Post #157, 21 Fern St., Natick, MA 01760. Joe knew no strangers; every stranger became a friend. His family kindly requests in Joes’ honor, striking up a conversation with a stranger.
