Julian Fleischman December 6, 1933 – January 18, 2025
Julian Fleischman, 91, of Sharon, MA passed away peacefully on January 18th, 2025. He is survived by his partner Carol Warner, his sister Naomi Towvim, his nephews Joshua Towvim, Daniel Towvim (wife Geri and children Ava and Jacob), Adam Towvim (wife Laura and children Benjamin and Rebecca). He was “Grandpa Julian” to Carol’s grandchildren: Jacob, Eli, Benjamin, and Abigail Kruger (daughter Cindy and husband Nathan’s children), and to Madelyn Warner (son Jeremy and wife Sarah’s daughter).
Son of the late Arthur and Sylvia, Julian was born in Philadelphia and spent his early years in Japan and London, before finally settling in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, NY. Julian attended The Fieldston School in Riverdale, NY, graduated magna cum laude from Yale, and received his Phd from Harvard. He completed postdocs at Stanford and St. Mary’s hospital in London, and spent a year at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, followed by a year at the Weizmann Institute in Israel.
Julian started his academic career at Washington University in St. Louis in 1964, where he remained as a Professor of Molecular Microbiology until he retired in 1998. Upon retirement, he was introduced by a mutual friend to Carol Warner. He then moved to the Boston area to share his life with Carol as his life partner. Julian was a true Renaissance man – academic, scientist, traveler, sports enthusiast, and could read or speak six languages.
Funeral service on Monday, January 20th at 12pm at Walnut Street Minyan, 858 Walnut Street, Newton, MA. Burial will be at King Solomon Memorial Park Cemetery, Clifton, NJ.
