Lila Ruth (Greenberg) Van Vliet

Lila Van Vliet

Age 89, of Concord, died on August 5, 2016.

She was born in New York City, daughter of the late Florence (Zurich) Greenberg and Charles Greenberg, and was a real New Yorker – raised on the Upper West Side and roller skating down Broadway as a girl. She attended Cornell University and married her first husband, Gerald Miller, shortly after graduating.  In many ways a traditional woman, she enjoyed being married, and she remarried after her first husband’s death, taking such good care of her second husband, David Van Vliet, that he lived to be over 100.   She was a very sweet and lovely person, taking great care to please others.  She loved to travel, including a trip to China shortly after it opened to Americans.  Her wanderlust led to 13 moves up and down many states on the east coast in the last 30 years of her life.

Lila is survived by 2 daughters, Bonnie Miller and Teri (Miller) Piccozzi; son-in-law Angelo Piccozzi; 2 granddaughters, Lila Piccozzi Kneeland and Eva Piccozzi; sisters-in-law Blanche Miller and Millicent Greenberg; and nephews Mark Miller, Steven Miller, Robert Miller, Jonathan Greenberg, and Sanford Greenberg.

Services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge, Monday, August 8, 2016 at 1:00 pm. Donations in her memory may be made to the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, P.O. Box 901, Wainscott, NY 11975- arfhamptons.org
