Marcia (Garshick) Altman

 of Boston, MA, on October 10, 2016. She was 88.  Marcia was born in Boston, MA on March 6, 1928.  She grew up in Dorchester and went to the Jeremiah E. Burke High School.  After high school, she took courses at Bentley College.  She was a career bookkeeper starting her career working for Karl C. Gennelly, Inc., shoe repair, tailor and barber shop in Boston for over 25 years.  After the store closed, she worked for a variety of businesses – a Japanese restaurant, a fitness club, and for the Dean of Harvard’s School of Landscape Architecture’s own firm to name a few. She had a dynamic creative mind which she shared with her friends and family through her love of sewing, needlework and painting. She was a devoted partner to her husband, Frederick Altman, in business and in life throughout their 50 years of marriage.  She was an incredible mother to her daughter, Alyssa Rose Altman. Marcia was like a sister to her sister-in-law, Shoshanah Garshick. She was a beloved aunt, great aunt and cousin to many.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Ida Fay and Irving Garshick, her brothers, Alfred and Nathan and sister, Sylvia Garshick, her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Olink and Sarah Rose, her cousin, Irene Ronkin, her niece, Rhonda Zammarelli and dear friend, Guy Gennelly. Funeral services will be held at The Wilson Chapel, 234 Herrick Road, Newton Centre, MA on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Interment is in the Shara Tfilo Cemetery, 776 Baker St., West Roxbury. The family will gather following the funeral at Newbridge on the Charles at 7000 Great Meadow Road in Dedham.
