WORCESTER – Michael Katz, age 102, died on Friday, August 16,2013 at the Jewish Healthcare Center.
His wife of 73 years, Tillie (Sack) Katz died in 2010. He leaves a daughter, Ruth Berman, wife of the late Mike Berman of Worcester; a son, Jerome Katz and his wife Danuta of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; and grandchildren, Debra Berman Shear, wife of Mark Shear of Worcester, Rena Berman Bly and her husband Douglas Bly of Holden and Dr. Tammy Katz and her husband Dr. Rahul Bhat of Washington, D.C., and his great-grandchildren, Erica and Alyssa Shear, Jocelyn and Courtney Bly and Arjun and Rohan Bhat; a brother Louis Katz and his wife Minna of Baltimore and a sister, Ethel, wife of Murray Abramoff of Worcester. He was predeceased by his brothers, Philip, Israel, Harry, Martin and Benjamin Katz and by his sisters, Sarah Joseph Pulda and Gertrude Chaifetz.
He was born in Nashua, NH, son of the late Morris and Fannie (Gilbert) Katz and lived in Worcester for 55 years, then 30 years in Margate, FL, returning to Worcester in 2008 to live in Eisenberg Assisted Living.
During WWII, he was the plant manager of Robbins Machine Co., manufacturers of machine tools and component parts for radar assemblies. After the war he was a department manager of Worcester Knitting Co.
He graduated Durfee Technical Institute of Fall River as a mechanical engineer. He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute and received a certificate of engineering. Before the war he was employed at Worcester Knitting Co. and returned to that company after the war.
He was an avid golfer, a great Red Sox fan and was an author at Eisenberg Assisted Living in Lucia Knowles Writer’s Workshop.
He was a Past President of Worcester Central Toastmasters. He was one of the earliest winners of the Worcester Telegram’s Hole-In-One Contest.
For 18 years he was President of the condominium board in Holiday Springs, FL. He was Past President of its Mens Club. He formerly was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue and Temple Beth Am in Coral Springs, FL.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 2pm ON MONDAY, AUGUST 19, IN TEMPLE EMANUEL SINAI,  661 SALISBURY ST. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF BREZNIAK RODMAN CHAPELS OF NEWTON. Burial will be in Worcester Hebrew Cemetery in Auburn. Following interment, memorial observance will be held Monday afternoon, August 19, at Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury St. and 7 -9pm at the residence of Ruth Berman, 80 Tarrytown Lane and will continue 1- 3pm & 7- 9pm at Ruth’s residence on Tuesday, August 20.
