Michael M Davis of Newton, MA passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, April 10,2022 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Michael was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1939 to Manuel and Zelda (Krugman) Davis. He grew up with his brother, Roger Davis, and his first cousins Marilyn and Jeff Krugman. The family later moved out to Long Island where he graduated from Minneola High School. He then earned a B.A. and an Sc.B. from Brown University before earning his LL.B. from Yale Law School and his LL.M. from Boston University, where he later taught courses in tax law.
Michael practiced as a Tax Attorney for Sullivan & Worcester in Boston for over 55 years and was still working full-time at the time of his passing. He was routinely honored as one of the top Tax Attorneys in the country, achieving recognition from many organizations including Boston Magazine, Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA, and Super Lawyers (among many others). He advised countless closely-held businesses, real estate owners, and holders of substantial liquid assets for whom he was a valued and trusted advisor.
At age 13, Michael met 12-year-old Beth Gordon at Camp Berkshire in Connecticut. Ten years later, they were married. Over the course of their 58-year marriage, they had two children, Daniel R. Davis and Jonathan G. Davis and four grandchildren, Zoë, Marc, Josh, and Emma. Michael was a devoted father and grandfather who remained active in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives, attending sporting events, reading with them, taking bicycle rides, going to museums, and enjoying wonderful family dinners.
Michael was an avid cyclist, taking regular bicycling trips all over the world. As a younger man, he was an excellent golfer, played tennis and squash, and enjoyed running, often participating in 5K races for Sullivan & Worcester. He was extremely charitable and, as a passionate advocate for the State of Israel, served on the Executive Board of the American Jewish Committee. He was also an avid supporter of the Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 11:00 am at Temple Beth Elohim, 10 Bethel Rd., Wellesley, MA, followed by a graveside burial at Crawford Street Memorial Park, 776 Baker St., West Roxbury.
