Miriam Ross Freidin, MD

age 68, of Boston and Truro, passed away, with her family beside her, on Tuesday, February 15th after a brief illness. Born in Berlin, Germany on May 5th, 1947 to the late Sally and Joseph Ross, both survivors of Auschwitz, Miriam spent her childhood in Lakewood New Jersey. At age sixteen, Miriam attended Long Island University and in 1971 graduated from Washington University Medical School. There, she met her beloved husband of forty-nine years, Ralph B. Freidin, MD. Miriam was the loving mother of Jesse Evan Freidin of North Adams, Elizabeth Freidin Baumann, PhD and her wife, Suzanne Baumann, of Cambridge. She was the doting grandmother of Ruth Thomas Baumann. Dr. Freidin was a dedicated child and adult psychiatrist with practices in Boston and Lexington and a medical career that spanned forty-four years. Dr. Freidin was a passionate artist whose found object sculptures were shown in galleries in Provincetown. Miriam leaves behind her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Karen Ross, as well as many dear family members and friends. There will be a small family service for Miriam on Wednesday February 17th at Mount Auburn Cemetery. Shiva will be held this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the home of Dr. Ralph Freidin. In lieu of flowers, the Freidin family will be establish a scholarship fund in Dr Miriam Freidin’s name at Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY.
