Muriel Elaine  Zase,  (Hamilt) “Midge” Was born October 9, 1921 in Brookline, MA to Maurice and Tillie (Levine) Hamilt. She passed away on November 3, 2010 in Delray Beach FL. She was an honor student with 2 double promotions who graduated from Brookline High School and went on to graduate cum laude from Simmons College. She then joined the work force and became the first woman chemist ever hired by Lever Brothers. Midge married Dr. Selig G. Zase on June 13, 1943 as he was graduating from dental school and enlisting as an officer in the U.S. Army where he served with distinction until 1946. They lived first in Randolph, MA and then for twenty years in Newton where they raised three children; Marty Zase, Elly Lampner and Jeanie Merowitz. They also had four grandchildren; Michelle Manchuso, Chris Lampner, David Merowitz and Stacy Merowitz: and two great grandchildren; Aimee Whynot and Lacey Whynot. She had four nieces and nephews. Midge was predeceased by her husband Sel in 1997 and their sisters Ruth Sandman and Irene Hilton. While raising her family, she was both a Cub Scout and Brownie/Girl Scout leader. She was an active member of the Noami Charity and many book and discussion groups. Midge later worked as a dental assistant in Sel’s dental offices in Randolph and Newton and did volunteer work at Boston’s Children’s Hospital. Once they retired from dentistry and moved to Delray Beach FL, she continued doing volunteer work teaching reading to youngsters having difficulty in the Delray schools. She was a near concert pianist, a creative knitter and embroiderer and loved to play contract bridge with her friends. She was a passionate attendee of classical and popular music concerts, an ardent theatregoer, and a prolific reader consuming nearly a book a day during most of her last three decades. To her family, she never complained, always said ” I’m fine,” and was a strident supporter and incredible friend to her loving children. She will be deeply missed. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children’s Hospital in Boston.
