(October 12, 1944 – August 3, 2015), age 70, of Newton, Massachusetts and Westbrook, Connecticut; beloved daughter of the late Mildred Wexler Kanter and the late Robert Kanter. Adored sister of Ellen Kanter Allen and her husband Ethan and the late Richard Kanter. Cherished aunt of Jessica Allen Forbes, Taylor Allen and Geoffrey Kanter. Loving best friend of Ann Congdon.

Priscilla was an incredible athlete and passionate sailor. She also excelled at tennis and skiing, but it was golf that was her claim to fame. At ten years old, she took her first swing and was playing golf with women three times her age as a teenager. In April, 1962 when Priscilla was 17, the Boston Globe came to Priscilla’s home to photograph and interview her about being invited as one of the first girls to join the boy’s golf team at Newton South High School. The article stated that Priscilla was the best athlete in the school, but more importantly, the best golfer on the team. This was big news in those days hearing that a young woman was asked to play on a boy’s golf team.

Priscilla was a trailblazer setting forth new standards for girl’s sports in high school. Coaches who thought she had the talent to play golf professionally pursued Priscilla, but she wanted to stay close to her family attend college to become a teacher. She taught school for 35 years in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
