Sylvia Levitan Cotzin

age 101, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family at the Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor, Michigan on July 19, 2014. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 12, 1913 to Daniel and Anna Levitan. After growing up in New York, she moved to Miami Beach where was secretary to Rabbi Irving Lehrman of Temple Emanu-El.  She then married and moved to Holyoke, MA, where she was active in the Sons of Zion synagogue for many years and worked in the family business, Feinstein Leather Company. Upon retirement, she moved to Florida. Ten years ago she moved to Ann Arbor, MI. She is predeceased by her husband Samuel Cotzin.  She leaves behind a son, Alan (Bette) Cotzin of Ann Arbor, Michigan; a daughter Norma (Michael) Passo of Fairfield, Connecticut; grandchildren Miriam (Daniel) Burg of Baltimore, MD., Debra(Rick) Kellner of Columbus, Ohio, Marc(Julie) Passo of Denver, Co., and Ellen(Jeffrey) Shaw of West Hartford, CT.; and six great grandchildren , Ellie, Shamir, Zoe, Shira, Abraham and Ezra. Milton and Sidney were her two adoring brothers who predeceased her. She will always be remembered as a woman devoted to her family, and as one who gave of herself to others. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Interment will take place at B’nai Brith Cemetery in Worcester, MA.
