GORDON, Susan Jane, of Natick, formerly of Newton and Wayland, passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, on June 8, 2021. Beloved sister of Esther and Stephen Gordon, adored aunt of Allison and Charles Abrams and Kara and Todd Gordon and devoted great aunt to Sophie, Rebecca and Matthew Abrams and Jack and Liana Gordon, dear daughter of the late Sophia and Samuel Gordon. In a nearly 40 year teaching career, almost entirely at the Bridge School in Lexington, Susan was the sought after “Miss Gordon” who provided over a thousand First Graders with a life-long foundation in reading, writing, arithmetic and, even more importantly, listening attentively, working productively and getting along with others. She gave that same foundation, and so much more, first to her niece and nephew and then to her great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom provided her with the light, laughter and purpose of her later years. Her gifts to her family are readily apparent today and will be everlasting. Susan will be remembered only for good because she lived her life only to do good. Services are private. Edwin (Ted) Solon Harwood, 82, died on June 7 after a short illness. He was the loving partner of Alice (Chester) Schwartz, the father of Dr. Bryna Harwood (Sidney Manansala), Alexander Harwood, and Abigail Harwood (Daniel Hensley), grandfather of Max and Robin Manansala and Willa Hensley, and brother of Cynthia Harwood.

Ted graduated from Stanford University, served three years in the U.S. Army, and earned a doctorate in sociology from The University of Chicago. He taught college sociology for more than 20 years. After leaving teaching he developed a communications and writing consulting practice.

Cynthia Deitel Burstein of Chestnut Hill, MA passed away peacefully on June 6, 2021 at age 103. Beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Paulina Deitel. Beloved wife of the late Hyman Burstein. Devoted mother of Gerald Burstein (Phyllis) and the late Paula Burstein Lerner. Mother-in-law to the late John Lerner and the late Adelle Shapiro Burstein. Loving grandmother of Adam Lerner (Stacey), April Van Dam (Michael), Jessica Sherer (Joshua), Candice Masters (Kenneth). Proud Great-grandmother to Peyton and Ava Lerner, Parker, Aaron, and Skylar Van Dam, Charlie and Alex Sherer, and Max and Brody Masters. Loving sister to the late Saul Deitel and late Helen Engleman.

Cynthia was a 1939 graduate of Portia Law School and received an honorary doctorate degree from the New England School of Law.

She was past President of The Boston Chapter of Hadassah. Also, she was an active member of CJP.

Her hobbies and interests included; golfing, mahjong, and ceramics. She was a fashionista, world traveler, shopper and enjoyed the company of her many friends.

Graveside service will be held at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon, MA on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 10:45 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cynthia’s memory may be made to Hadassah Northeast, 1320 Centre St., Newton, MA 02459 or the charity of your choice.

There will be a private Shiva observed.

Robert Peck of Newton, MA passed away on June 6, 2021. Beloved husband of Ann (Loeb) Peck. Devoted father of David Peck and his wife Debra, Ellen Traganos, and Karen Caponetti and her husband Michael. Proud grandfather of Lindsey, Lauren, Haley, Jennifer, Nicole, Andrew, and Alexandra. Loving brother of the late Burton Peck, Beverly Zindler and Gerald Peck.  Brother-in-law to Leo Zindler. Graveside service will be private. A memorial reception will be held at the conference room on Wednesday at the Imperial Towers, 280 Boylston St., Chestnut Hill, MA from 12:30 pm – 4 pm. Memorial observance will continue Thursday and Friday from 1 – 5 pm at Ann’s residence. Laurence Herbert Bishoff, affectionately known as Larry, of Boston, MA, passed away on June 6, 2021, surrounded by loved ones.

Born in 1937 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Sophie and David Bishoff, Larry came to Boston at the age of 17 to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Larry majored in management, became president of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity, and served in the ROTC. Following his graduation, Larry served as a Lieutenant in the United States Army and trained as a sharpshooter.

After his army service, Larry returned to MIT as Director of Housing and Dining, spearheading the renovation and development of several dormitories and dining facilities. Subsequently, Larry became the Executive Director of the MIT medical department and created an HMO for the MIT community, the first in the country not affiliated with a medical school. Larry spent most of his career in healthcare administration, working at MIT, Harvard University, and private corporations.  In his later years, Larry became a serial entrepreneur, founding several successful companies that combined his expertise in healthcare administration and technology.

Beyond his incredible work ethic and accomplishments, Larry had many interests. He was an avid Boston sports fan, enjoying the same pair of seats at Fenway Park every year since 1967, as well as season tickets to the Celtics and Patriots. He played squash, basketball, and golf, and served as a head coach for Newton Girls Soccer. Larry was a longtime member of the Harvard Club of Boston, a jazz and classical music aficionado, and an avid reader. Larry dazzled family and friends with his formidable intellect and extraordinary math skills, such as instantly calculating in his head the sum of long lists of numbers, patiently providing the correct answer no matter how many times his children tried, unsuccessfully, to stump him.

On top of his intellectual curiosity, Larry’s unfailing kindness, optimism, and sense of humor were legendary. He was generous to a fault, offered a kind word and smile to all, and told great stories. Larry was a mentor and friend to many, always willing to patiently listen, offer words of wisdom and encouragement, and help find solutions to life’s challenges. Larry delighted in hosting family and friends over a beautiful meal, talking and laughing until late into the night.  Despite bravely fighting through health challenges for many years, Larry never complained and always praised the wonderful medical staff of Massachusetts General Hospital who cared for him.

Larry is survived by his beloved family: wife, Ann Bishoff; son, Marc Bishoff; daughters, Amanda Muros-Bishoff and Alyssa Muros-Bishoff; son-in-law, William Droste; stepdaughter, Wendy Falchuk and family; grandsons, Marc Bishoff and Liam Palkhiwala; sister, Janey Bishoff, brother-in-law, David Blumenthal, nephew, Daniel Blumenthal, and his partner, Danielle Youngman; niece, Tobey Pearl and family; and many friends.

Funeral services will be private. Shiva will be observed on June 10, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., at the home of Alyssa Muros-Bishoff and William Droste, and on June 11, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., at the home of Janey Bishoff and David Blumenthal. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Edward R. Horowitz, 74, of West Roxbury, June 3, 2021.  Ed graduated Long Island University and Tufts Dental School, worldwide lecturer, and instructor in prosthodontics. Ed was known for his outstanding dental artistry, comedic stories, and making patients look forward to dental visits. He was a talented photographer and enjoyed a stand-up comedy career as John E. Hate. He is known for his loyalty, generosity, dependability, great homemade pizza, and incomparable candor. Ed’s frequent quips included “If you want something done well, do it yourself,” “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer” and… “There are three things you need in life: someone to love, somewhere to go, and something to look forward to.”

Eddie is survived by his beloved wife Laurie Schloff, daughter Jaclyn Hava Horowitz, sister and brother-in-law Karen and Howard Reis, sister -in-law and brother- in -law Barbara and Max Schloff, nieces Allison, Heather, Jamie, Robyn, nephew Eric, great nephews Dillon, David, Harrison and Jackson and great niece Emma.

Glasberg, Myron of Needham, MA passed away June 1, 2021. Beloved husband of Ina (Davis) Glasberg for 68 wonderful years. Devoted father of Rhonda Weiner and her husband Jeffrey, and Mark Glasberg and his wife Emily, and the late Evan Glasberg. Cherished grandfather of Marley and her fiancé Will, Jacob, Zakary & Nikki, Lindsay and her husband Joshua, Jackie, Hana, Rachel & Tyler, Samuel, and Abigail. Proud great grandfather of Harrison. Myron will always be remembered for his love for his family. Some of his favorite times were spending summers on Cape Cod with family and friends. Myron was a founding member of Temple Beth Shalom in Needham. May his memory forever be a blessing to all who knew and loved him. Cole, Roberta “Bobbie”, of Newton, MA passed away May 27, 2021. Beloved wife of the late Bernard “Bernie” Cole. Devoted mother of Russell (Karen), Justin (Denise), Jayce, Warren (Margie), Stuart (Yael), Kermit (Louisa). Predeceased by her children Clifford and Carol.  Loving grandmother of Cindy (Josh), Gregory (Andrea), Nina (Ted), Evan (Evelyn), Alana, Benjamin, Geoffrey (Julia), Samantha, Jacqueline. Proud great-grandmother of Felix, Amilia, Nero, Kaylee, and Halle.

Bobbie lived a vibrant, complex, wonderful life. She cared deeply for Bernie and devoted herself to raising and caring for their children, international students, neighbors and strangers from around the world. She never stopped moving, she taught, she knit, she cooked, she sang – the list never ends. She brought people together and loved with everything she had. Her big yellow house held dogs, cats, birds, a few two-legged friends and the bric-a-brac accumulated in a long life. With the help of Azam and Leonora, her last years were filled with life and love. She will be missed by many.

Of Brookline, formerly of Sharon, died suddenly on May 27, 2021.  Born in Brooklyn, NY, Bernie grew up surrounded by his loving family.  He was a beloved brother, cousin, uncle and friend. He was the hardworking and devoted husband of the late Marilyn Zitofsky, father of Shari and Michael Churwin and Jodi and Haim Hazan and dear grandfather of Hannah, Ashley, Julia, Maya and Eli.

A private graveside service (with a livestream) will be held at Sharon Memorial Park on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 11:45 am.  The service can be viewed at :  here.    Memorial observance will be at the home of Michael and Shari Churwin Tuesday until 7 pm with an evening service via Zoom at 7:30 pm (Meeting ID: 876 4318 4026; Passcode: Bernie).  Shiva will continue in person on Wednesday from 6:00-8:30 pm.  In lieu of flowers, he would have appreciated a contribution to the Temple Ohabei Shalom Fund for Life Long Learning,1187 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA 02446.
