Captain Richard M. Rome (USNR), Saturday, August 31, 2019. He was 95. Devoted father of Dr. Lawrence Craig (Victoria Hawley Rome), and Jeffrey Owen Rome. Proud grandfather of Henry Ellis Rome and Nathaniel Hawley Rome. Devoted husband to Winifred H. Rome who predeceased him.
Captain Rome, a WW II veteran, joined the Tufts University NROTC, and went to the Pacific on LST 777 in 1944. He was involved in a number of operations including the Philippines Campaign. He served as Commander of the LST 777 at war’s end and led a flotilla of LSTs back to the US mainland. Captain Rome retired as a US Navy Reserve Captain in 1983. After the war, he did research on rocket fuels at MIT, worked for an engineering firm in Boston as a Nuclear Engineer and then became President of Maine Information Systems in Bangor, ME pioneers in computerized banking.
Dick loved the Navy, the sea and his family and friends. He was an avid sailor and remarkable mariner.

Eileen M. Thomas, a lifelong resident of North Truro, died on August 18, 2019 at Cape Cod Hospital. She was 67 years old.
Born in Hyannis, Eileen was the daughter of the late John and Ruth Thomas. She was raised and educated in North Truro and a graduate of Provincetown High School. Eileen went on to study and graduate from Cape Cod Community College and Salem State University earning as Associate’s degree in Arts and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Library Sciences. She was a dedicated employee of the Cape End Manor and Seashore Point for over 30 years serving as a licensed social worker as well as the licensed administrator for a period of time. Eileen enjoyed baking, gardening, quilting, and most recently card making. A truly loving and gentle soul, she especially enjoyed feeding the birds and enjoying the beauty of the Outer Cape.
Eileen is survived by her husband, Harris W. Adams with whom she shared 30 years; her sisters, Eleanor Marshall and Elizabeth Thomas; and so many dear friends whose lives have been enhanced by her presence.

George Henry Anbinder, 84, of Framingham passed away peacefully on August 24, 2019. George was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to Rose and Morris Anbinder. He grew up in Dorchester and Mattapan and was a graduate of English High School. George joined the United States Marine Corps in the mid-1950s and served as an aircraft technician. He maintained his pride in being a Marine throughout his life, as evidenced by his wearing his USMC cap everywhere he went.
Upon leaving the Marine Corps, George attended and graduated from Boston University. He worked in the private sector for many years, first as an owner of a commercial laundry business and later as the owner of a company that supplied safety equipment to municipalities. However, it was not until George was in his 50s that he followed his passion and returned to school at Johnson and Wales University, where he graduated with a degree in culinary arts. He then taught as a chef/instructor at Newbury College, leading the department for many years. One of his favorite days was when Julia Child spoke at Newbury’s graduation and he shared the stage with her. Throughout his life, he spoke glowingly of his students, many of whom became well-known and highly regarded chefs. He never tired of dining at one of the restaurants of a former student, and relished being called “Chef Anbinder.”
In addition to cooking, George had a wide variety of hobbies and interests. He loved fixing cars, making model airplanes, skiing, and traveling, particularly to France. He enjoyed speaking Yiddish, and he loved Israel.
George is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ellie Anbinder of Framingham, and his beloved daughters, Kathryn (Lino) Covarrubias of Framingham and Rachel (Ian) Fier of Southborough. George loved being Pop Pop to his grandchildren Molly and David Covarrubias, and Daniel, Mikayla, and Zachary Fier. His sister, Charlotte Davis, predeceased him. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Grandberg of Sharon.
A funeral service will be held at Temple Beth Am in Framingham on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at 10:00 am. Interment will take place at 12:00 Noon at Sharon Memorial Park. Maria Fisher, age 67 of Brighton, Massachusetts passed away on August 21st, 2019 due to an infection while surrounded by friends and family. Maria was born in New York to the late Harry and Judy Fisher on October 5th, 1951.
Maria was a beautiful soul who traveled the world, journeying to sacred grounds of Israel toiling with fellow travelers on kibbutz beneath the Mediterranean sun and as far as the distant shores of Southeast Asia where she shared coconuts and pineapple with her kids. Wherever she went, she remained practical and proud of the steely confidence her upbringing on the streets of the Bronx instilled upon her.
After earning a Master’s degree in education she worked as a school teacher in the state of Delaware where she devoted her life to her two boys and educating a wide range of children. Maria enjoyed playing the clarinet and recorder in orchestral ensembles, her Devon Rex cats, and activities with friends and family throughout her life. Every challenge Maria faced was overcome with courage and dignity. Always compassionate, she was a ray of light for many, guiding us all towards strength and joy in a sometimes turbulent world.
Friend – Mother – Devoted partner. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
She is survived and will remain an eternal source of love and inspiration by her brother Charles Fisher, sons: Jason Charles and David Alderson, daughters-in-law: Jane Hellman & Noy Xayavong, and beloved companion: David Robbins.
