Eva (Oppenheimer) Arond-of Lexington, MA, died peacefully on September 25, 2019. Loving wife of the late Dr. Lester Harold Arond.  Devoted mother of Dr. Manya Arond-Thomas and her husband Dr. James Arond-Thomas, and Paul Arond. Sister to Alfred Oppenheimer. Graveside service at Westview Cemetery, 520 Bedford St., Lexington, MA on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at 11:00 am.  Following services, shiva will be at the home of Paul Arond until 5:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers remembrances in her memory may be made to ACLU (ACLU.org).

Ronnie Lynne (Freedman) Kaster

Ronnie Lynne (Freedman) Kaster of Millis, Massachusetts entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 23, 2019 due to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease.  Ronnie was born March 21, 1938 to the late Edward & Frieda Freedman, and is predeceased by her sister Marilyn (Freedman) Braverman.  She is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 59 years, Leonard “Butch” Kaster.  Ronnie is also survived by her children, David Kaster and his wife Myra Lee, Dr. Bruce Kaster and his wife Madelon, Robin-Sue DeSimone and her husband Gino.  Ronnie had the blessing of being a grandmother to 8 wonderful grandchildren, and more recently, 2 great-grandchildren.  Graveside service at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon, MA on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at 11:45 am. Ramona Briss

September 20, 2019

Ramona D. Briss, 92, died peacefully on September 19, 2019.  Mona, as she was known, was the loving of wife of the late Herbert Briss, devoted mother to her son Jeff and his partner Dorothy of San Francisco and daughter Judy and her husband Tom of Bellingham. Herb and Mona established their home in Framingham where they lived for over 50 years before moving to Westborough in 2012.Mona was a great cook and loved having family and friends over for the Jewish Holidays. Her latkes, matzo balls and chicken soup were the best! Services will be private. Gabriel Padawer

Gabriel E. Padawer of Brookline, 95, Wednesday, September 18, 2019. Husband of the late Martha (Bienstock) Padawer. Loving father of Jill Gemmill and the late Susan Padawer. Father-in-law of John Clark. Grandfather of Aaron Gemmill (Kressent Pottenger), Janet Gemmill-Peckham (Chris Peckham). Great grandfather of Eva Gemmill, Malcolm Gemmill, Frances Peckham and August Peckham. Brother of the late Hannah Felder.

Member of Child Survivors of the Holocaust and Temple Israel. Born in Munich, Germany, Gabriel emigrated to the U.S. as a teenager with his family. After graduating from Brooklyn Tech in 1943 he joined the Army 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division and saw combat during the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, Gabriel met and married Martha, his beloved wife for 65 years. Ten years after starting his family of two daughters, Gabriel decided to realize his dream of becoming an engineer and started college. He was awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship and earned a PHD in Materials Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He worked for Cabot Corporation for 20 years and continued as a consultant for them after retirement. Most recently, Gabriel developed an interest in translating early 20th century Jewish theological works from German to English including a modern translation of Martin Buber’s “The Way of Man”. A generous, humorous, and thoughtful human being, Gabriel will be missed by his family and many friends.

Service at Temple Israel, 477 Longwood Ave., Boston, (parking attendants on Riverway) on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at 1:30 pm. Interment will follow at Beth El Cemetery, West Roxbury. Sumner Donald “Brother” Hershon

Sumner Donald “Brother” Hershon, of Sharon, MA, on September 11, 2019 at age 89. Loving husband of Natalie C. Hershon. Devoted father of Alan (Alexandra), Philip (Kim), Amy (Michael) and Marc, and father-in-law of Sharon. Proud Grampa of Zachary, Ethan (Aidan), Ariana, Isaac, David, Sarah and Danielle. Loving brother of Lenore Cagan and the late Marvin Hershon. Dear uncle of several nieces and nephews. David L. Landay

David L. Landay, of Sarasota, FL, died September 1, 2019, at the age of 80, in Sarasota, FL, after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare, debilitating, atypical Parkinson-like disease. He lived his life with great presence, generosity, humor, joy and grace.

Born in Cambridge in 1939, David was the son of Martin and Mildred (Slosberg) Landay. He graduated from Brookline High School and Brandeis University, then earned his MBA at Boston University. He lived most of his life in Brookline and Boston, before moving to Florida in his retirement. He spent his career in the footwear and sporting goods industries, beginning at Stride Rite Corp. in Boston when it was still his family’s company and then co-founding his own company. As production globalized, he traveled extensively, making friendships around the world. With his family, David was a long-term supporter of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. He was also proud of his board service with Boston’s Handel & Haydn Society.

He is survived by his wife Naomi G. Litvin; his brother Roger Landay; his children Bruce Landay, William Landay and Suzanne Robinson; and his six grandchildren, Samuel and Sophia Landay; Ted and Henry Landay; and Hannah and Ben Robinson. He was predeceased by his brother Charles. Services on Friday, September 6 at 2:00 pm in the Sharon Memorial Park chapel, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA 02067.
