Jeffrey William Weinstein

April 18, 2018

age 61, formally of Newton and Westborough, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, surrounded by family. He was a beloved father and is survived by his children Erica, Andrew and Jacob, as well as his former wife and dear friend, Susan Weinstein. Dear son of the late Leila Becker and Sidney Weinstein. Loving brother of Judie Nielsen and husband Bill, as well as Tobie Medvin and husband Mark. Step brother to Michael Becker, Sandy Dupree, Robert Becker, and Richard Becker. Jeffrey graduated with an MBA from Babson College and a BBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He spent most of his career working at Bostik as a marketing manager. Jeffrey was passionate about his children, his sheepdogs, and spending summers at the beach on Cape Cod. Services at Temple Sinai, 25 Canton St., Sharon, Friday, April 20, 2018 at 1:00 pm. Interment in Sharon Memorial Park. Memorial observance will be at the Levy residence following the service on Friday, Saturday 8-10 pm, and Sunday 1-4 pm. Remembrances in his memory may be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, www.hdsa.org.

 

Henry Bahm

Henry Bahm of Newton, age 98, passed away on April 14, 2018. Beloved husband of the late Thelma Bahm. Dear father of Beverly Diamond and Merick Bahm. Grandfather to Heather Guzzi, Sara Ginsberg and Kissy Rakhlin and great-grandfather to Caleb and Jordan Ginsberg, Zoey and Joshua Rakhlin and Samantha and Jacob Guzzi. Henry was a hugely talented and well known artist who along with his wife owned an interior design/ gallery Henri Studio in Boston and then Newton for 50 years. His work has won numerous awards. Forty four of his drawings are owned by the Boston Public Library. He attended the Mass. College of Art and The Museum School at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA. He was a long time member of the Newton Art Association. COHEN Ann (Cohen) of Boca Raton FLA, formerly of Newton MA, on April 7, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Alvin A. Cohen and mother of the late Cathy Dee Cohen. Devoted mother to Carrie Cohen Yankello (Steve) and Susan Cohen Hillman (Steven). Loving grandmother to Allison, Adam, Lauren and Heidi. Adored by her great grandchildren, Starr, Madden and Mikayla. Loving sister to Marilyn Jacobson and the late Barbara Alexander.

Ann and her husband Al were the original owners of The Party Shop in Newton Centre MA.

Zoe Levinson

Mrs. Zoe W. Levinson died on April 6, 2018 after a long and very active life. She was the much-loved wife of the late Lawrence M. Levinson and cherished mother to Laura Smith, and Robert Levinson and his wife Tangela.

 

Zoe, a life-long resident of Newton, graduated from the Ward Elementary School, Weeks Junior High School, and Newton High School. She graduated from Vassar College, and met and married Larry Levinson while he was finishing law school at Harvard after the war.

 

Mrs. Levinson volunteered her time to and was a member of the ladies’ committee of the MFA, a member and president of the Vassar Club of Boston, of the Friends of the Vassar Art Museum, and president of the Portview Condominium in Maine. However, her greatest passion was collecting art, traveling the world and spending time with her friends.

 

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions should be sent to Good Shepherd Community Care at 90 Wells Avenue, Newton, MA 02459.

Peter Alan Hoffman

April 4, 2018

Peter Alan Hoffman of Palm Beach, FL passed away on April 2, 2018 due to respiratory complications.  He was born June 6, 1945 in Hartford, CT to Ethel and Marvin Hoffman and grew up in Marblehead, MA where he attended Marblehead High.  Peter graduated from Calvin Coolidge College and received a masters degree from Boston University. Despite enduring Hodgkin’s lymphoma in his twenties and 10 years of chemotherapy, he lived a full life that included being a parole officer and owning and operating a lucite specialty firm, travel agency, a graphics business, and an auto accessory business.  He held a patent for the use of electroluminescent lighting, becoming the 3rd generation in his family to hold a patent. He was an avid crossword puzzler, punner, golfer (hole-in-one!), and general creative force. Wherever Peter went, he made fast friends with his humor, charm, and compassion. Peter is survived by his lifelong crew of friends from Camp Cedar (ME), best friends Kenny Smith and Judd Gould, and his loving family: brother Larry (Michele), nephews Zach and Matt (Ellen), nieces Celia and Isabel, and many cousins from the Weisinger family. A memorial service will be held May 12 in Palm Beach.

 

Barbara “Bobbie” Bartman

BARTMAN, Barbara “Bobbie” (Nussinow) of Chestnut Hill, MA and Boca Raton, FL, age 80, passed away on April 2, 2018.  Beloved wife of the late Bradley “Buddy” Bartman.  Devoted mother of Barri Levine and Jessica Raisman and her husband Eric.  Proud grandmother “Nanny” of Jeffrey Levine and his wife Kavita, Michael Levine, Julie Levine, Brooke Raisman and Drew Raisman.  Loving sister of Shirley Cohen.  Services will be private.  Memorial observance will be at the home of Barri Levine, 74 Jarvis Circle, Needham, MA, on Sunday, April 8, 2018, 1-6 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Bobbie’s memory may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284, or  MSPCA, 350 South Huntington, Ave., Boston, MA 02130.

 

Arlene Lewis

Arlene Lewis passed away at her home in Brookline, MA on March 31, 2018. She was born on February 11, 1946 in Boston, MA, the eldest child of the late Syd and Harry Lewis of Newton, MA. Arlene, affectionately known as Auntie, was married to the late Leon Bleich. Arlene’s passion for world travel led to the founding of her travel agency, Travel by Arlene, in 1972. Her travels, with Leon at her side, spanned 6 continents and over one hundred countries. She also was a beloved leader of Weight Watchers for over two decades. Arlene is survived by her sister, Robin Lewis Levine, brother-in-law Ken Levine, niece Samantha Levine-Neudel, Joshua Neudel, and her most loved, great-nephew Coby Neudel. Arlene is also survived by family members Amy, Robin, Rebecca, Jordan, Lucy, Tristan, and Aryr, companion Carl Finer, her countless friends, and co-workers at Weight Watchers and Protravel International.There will be an afternoon to remember Arlene on Sunday, April 8, from 2-4pm at the  Brook House Function Room, 99 Pond Avenue, 2nd floor, Brookline, MA. Ruthe Averbuck Braun

Ruthe Averbuck Braun, 85, formerly of Randolph, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2018. Born and raised in Boston, MA to the late Max and Eva (Weiner) Averbuck, on August 27, 1932. Ruthe lived every day to the fullest. Ruthe and her beloved companion, the late Morris Factor, loved to travel the world, visiting all seven continents, where she grew her personal collection of renowned art and antiques from across the globe. Ruthe was vibrant, outgoing, loving and a true original. She adored participating in the arts and live theatre with her daughters and granddaughter. Always ready to help anyone in need, Ruthe was a loyal friend to many. Ruthe was a devoted mother to Marla Melito and the late Michele Braun, a proud and cherished grandmother to Erica Rose Melito and a dear sister to Loretta Chandler, her husband Melvin, and the late Paul Averbuck. Ruthe enriched lives and will be missed by many. Her family extends a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Heights Crossing. Services at Temple Sinai, 25 Canton St., Sharon, on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 11:00 am. Following interment at Baker St., West Roxbury, the family will receive visitors at the home of  Marla Melito until 9:00 pm and Thursday 2-8 pm.
