Peter Alan Rabinowitz – well known raconteur, businessman, passionate fly-fisherman, chef, traveller – died on May 27, 2018 in Boston, Massachusetts.
A master of the Executive Search business, Peter founded PAR Associates over 45 years ago and in that time influenced hundreds of organizations and individuals through building leadership teams in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. Famously known as ‘the Rabbi’ within his chosen field, Peter’s impact on his clients, many of whom became life-long friends, was extraordinary; his favorite saying, “burn with a clear blue flame,” continues to guide many a career. His capacity for great friendship was boundless.
Fly-fishing was Peter’s passion; he loved nothing more than whiling away an afternoon at the Norfolk Trout Club or in New Zealand, the Bahamas, Montana and Argentina. Really, any stream would do – especially with his son, Jason, by his side.
When you met Peter, the first thing he would talk of was his love for his partner, Judith, and their remarkable life together commuting between Toronto and Boston, traveling near and far, attending all manner of artistic performances and events; and of a long, devoted friendship with Maynard and Suzanne Goldman.
Peter grew up in Brookline, MA, where he was born in 1944, the son of Joy and the late Samuel Rabinowitz. He attended Milton Academy and was a graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton WI, and the Jacob Hiatt Institute of Brandeis University. Throughout his life, he supported many charitable organizations including the Institute of Contemporary Art, American Jewish World Service, WGBH, and Landmarks Orchestra.
He is survived by his partner, Judith Gelber, as well as his mother, Joy Rabinowitz, son Jason Rabinowitz, daughter and son-in-law Lauren and Daniel Singer, grandchildren Aiden and Ariel Singer, his twin sister Wendy Gralnek, and brother-in-law, Maurice, and his brother Michael Rabinowitz.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Judith Gelber & Peter Rabinowitz Fund at Canada’s National Ballet School (Toronto), or Research Fund c/o Dr. Glenn Bubley, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Boston) would be most appreciated.
The Funeral will take place on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 1:30 pm at Temple Israel, 477 Longwood Ave., Boston.
A celebration of life for Peter will take place in Toronto soon.
