Dear brother of Leah Sobel, and the late Bele Berg and William Mazer. Services on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Story Chapel on the grounds of  Mt. Auburn Cemetery,  580 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge, MA.  Interment will follow in the Cambridge Cemetery.

A reception will be held at their residence, 214 Garden Street in Cambridge, immediately following the burial, through 6:00 pm on Monday, and will continue on Tuesday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Isaac “Ike” Sobel

known to friends as “Ike”, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the age of 88. Born and raised in NYC, currently of Hingham, and formerly of Needham, Isaac was the beloved husband of 65 years to the late Clara Sobel. He was the devoted father of Frances Sobel and John Perfetti, Lisa Lawless Dunbar and her husband Philip Dunbar. He was the very proud and loving grandfather of Matthew Lawless and his husband Brian, and Robert Lawless and his wife Laura. Funeral services are private. Daniel Dosamantes

Daniel Dosamantes, of Wayland, formally of New York City, age 80, died peacefully on April 30, 2016.  He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, friend, and husband to his late wife, Muriel. He is survived by his daughters Sara and Deborah, son David, grandchildren Jessica, Max, and Celia, and his sister Irma.

Daniel was born in Mexico City, where he spent his childhood.  He lived most of his life in New York City, though for several years during his retirement he resided in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Daniel had a deep love for the arts, influenced by his father, Francisco Dosamantes, a Mexican painter and lithographer.  His life’s passion was his profession as a talented stone sculptor and painter.  Daniel had many interests including traveling internationally and cross country, visiting museums, hiking, listening to classical music, reading poetry, following and discussing politics, gourmet cooking, and enjoying incredibly strong coffee.  He was an insightful, intelligent, and reflective man who will be greatly missed by his loved ones.

Memorial service to be held at a future date.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Daniel’s memory to the National Parkinson Foundation or the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Sydney M. Liner

Sydney Liner

Sydney M. Liner-of Newton, age 95, passed away peacefully in his home on April 29, 2016, surrounded by his beloved family. Sydney was born on November 22, 1920, the third of four sons to Hilda and Samuel Liner, both of Russia. He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife Alta (Burwen) in 1980 and his beloved second wife, Lenore (Rutman) in 2015. He is survived by his children, Ellen and Richard, grandchild Andrea, stepchildren Robert, Janie and Jackie, and their seven children and four grandchildren. He was the brother of Morton and the late Robert and Rabbi Paul Liner.Sydney was an accomplished baseball pitcher at Brookline High School and attended the Red Sox Rookie Camp in 1942 before enlisting in the US Navy and graduating from Flight school in Pensacola, FL. He was a navigator and pilot of PB-Y’s in the South Pacific, performing search and rescue and night bombing missions before returning to Pensacola to be a primary flight instructor. After the war, he returned to Liner Tire Company with two of his brothers, which was founded by his father in 1910 and continues to operate today as the oldest tire dealership in New England. Sydney was an avid golfer, spending winters in Lake Worth, FL, and continuing to work in the tire business well into his 80’s.Services with military honors will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 2:00pm at the Chapel of Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon. The family will receive guests at 4 York Rd., Waban, MA on Monday after the funeral service until 8:00pm and on Tuesday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to Hospice of Good Shepherd, 90 Wells Ave., Newton, MA 02459.

Edward Groipen

Of Newton, a retired footwear industry executive, died peacefully April 26, 2016 surrounded by loved ones.  He was 91.  Born and raised in Everett, attended Everett public schools.  He served as a Staff Sargent in the 5th Air Force in the Pacific during World War II.  Graduated Suffolk University.  Mr. Groipen was an independent representative for many companies both regional and international.  He was past president of the Boston Shoe Travelers Association, member of the National Shoe Travelers Association, Two-Ten Association, Jewish War Veterans – Post 211, Garden City Lodge of the Masons, and a 55-year member of Temple Emanuel of Newton. Beloved husband for 67 years of Elaine. Devoted father of Beth Melnick of West Hartford, CT, Paul and his partner Todd Satterlee of Chestnut Hill, Larry and his wife Lori of Swampscott. Cherished grandfather of Julie & Justin,  Jennifer & Nick, Jamie & Ben and Allie and great grandson AJ, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He leaves his loving sister Doris Horlink of Newton.  Services at Temple Sinai, 25 Canton St., Sharon, on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 11:00 am. Following interment at Sharon Memorial Park, memorial observance will be at the residence of Paul Groipen until 8:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Temple Emanuel, 385 Ward St., Newton, MA 02459 or Cong.
