He was the son of the late Harry Greenberg and Pauline (Levin) Greenberg; husband of the late Lois (Lavine) Greenberg; father of Roberta Greenberg of North Lauderdale, FL; brother of Pauline Joseph and her husband Rodney; friend of Lorraine Theokas; and also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Greenberg was born in Baltimore, MD and graduated from Forest Park High School in 1951. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 and served honorably until 1955.  He moved to Framingham in 1958 and began his studies at Northeastern University earning his undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Engineering in 1961 and 1964 and then a master’s degree in Business Administration.  Mr. Greenberg had a long and distinguished career as a quality professional, working as a quality engineer and manager for a number of companies in the Boston area in particular Northrop Nortronics, Polaroid Corporation, and Sylvania. He qualified as a professional engineer and was licensed in both California and Massachusetts.

During his professional career Mr. Greenberg was highly respected for his activity in the technical and academic community. He taught quality engineering courses under the auspices of Northeastern University and North Shore Community College as well as the University of Massachusetts at Lowell where he was an adjunct professor in the mechanical engineering department.  In its formative years, prior to its merger into Tufts University, he served as professor and laboratory director at the Bernard M. Gordon Institute for Engineering Leadership.  While there he taught courses in quality, reliability, and component engineering.

Very active in the technical community, he served in the Engineering Societies of New England, an umbrella organization of Professional Engineering Societies, as an officer and also as its president in 1982. His primary professional organization was the American Society for Quality (ASQ) which he originally joined in 1958 and maintained activity throughout his life time. He served as an officer and committee chair for the Boston section continuously from the time he joined the society until the present day. He served as section chair in 1977-1978.  In 1996 the section presented him its Boston Society Award.  He was very active at the regional level which was recognized by the Northeast Quality Council when he was presented with its R. Shaw Goldthwait Award in 1986.  He became active at the national level of the society when he joined its Electronics Division Council in 1975. He served as division chair in 1980, was elected to the ASQ board of directors in 1979, and Region 1 director, until his retirement in 1992 as vice president of the division and technical committees.  He was elected a fellow of ASQ continuing his activity at the national level. He served as a member or chair of the nominating, membership, examining, and professional ethics committees. In 2009 he was elected a national director of ASQ and once again a member of its board of directors. Concurrently he served as treasurer of the ASQ Division Affairs Council and its administrative committee, finally retiring in 2013.  In 2004 ASQ awarded him its Distinguished Service Medal, which is the highest level of recognition that ASQ betows upon members.

Following the tradition of at least 3 generations of men in his family, Mr. Greenberg became a Free Mason in 1971 joining United Lodge in Boston. He was a very active member serving 5 terms as Worshipful Master prior to United Lodge merging with Shawmut Lodge in 1998. Continuing his involvement, he served as Master of Shawmut for 3 terms before it merged with Consolidated Lodge in 2008. Over the course of his Masonic career he also served as a district officer, including 5 years as District Awareness Officer.
