Silton-Dorothy (Sherman), of Boca Raton FL, and formerly of Saugus and Brookline MA, passed away on April 22, 2012. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Saul S. Silton. Loving mother of Robert and his wife Jodi Silton and the late Kay Dwork. Dear grandmother of Jordan and his wife Kristen Silton, Rachel Silton, Daniel and his wife Karin Levine, and Randy Levine. Services will be private.

Rubye M. Finger

April 18, 2012

NEW BEDFORD- Rubye M. (Haffer) Finger of Dartmouth, died on April 16, 2012, at the age of 88. For over 60 years she was the wife of the late Louis D. Finger and the daughter of the late Louis R. Haffer and Mildred (Shrier) Haffer.

 Born in Boston, MA, she resided in the New Bedford-Dartmouth area for over 60 years. She graduated from Framingham State Teachers College. She started her career as a teacher in Newton and then In New Bedford.

 She was very active in many social and philanthropic organizations, including, Past President of the New Bedford League of Woman Voters, the Greater New Bedford Jewish Federation, Sisterhood of Tifereth Israel Synagogue, a retired member of St. Lukes’ Hospital Board of Directors, Present Board Member of New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home, Member of Dartmouth COA Wanders DCTV, Life Member of Hadassah, National Council of Jewish Women, one of the original organizers of the Greater New Bedford Regional Science Fair in the early 1960’s, first planner for Coastline Elderly Services New Bedford, MA, Past COA director in Rochester, MA. She was an avid tennis player and took up the game of golf at the age of 83.

 She is the mother of David Finger and his wife Dianne of North Dartmouth, Ellen L. Hull and her husband Chuck of North Dartmouth; her grandchildren, Sara Caruso and her husband David, Michael Hull and his fiancé Mary Riggs, Lisa Foley and Daniel Finger; her great-grandchildren, Jack Caruso and Avrah Foley; her brother, Myles T. Haffer and his wife Gloria of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Funeral services at Tifereth Israel Congregation, 145 Brownell Ave. New Bedford on Thursday, April 19 at 1 pm. Interment at Tifereth Israel Congregation Cemetery, New Bedford.

 Memorial observance at her residence, on Thursday until 9pm and continuing on Friday 1-4 pm and Sunday 1-4, 7-9 pm.

 Remembrances may be made to Congregation Tifereth Israel or to New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home.

James D. Wolfe

April 16, 2012

Wolfe –James D. , of West Palm Beach, FL, formerly of Newton,  on April 15, 2012 at age 54, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Jim was the beloved son of Phyllis A. Wolfe and the late George M. Wolfe.  In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Jessica Wolfe and Tom Bloch of Wellesley, and his brother, Andy Wolfe of Atlanta, GA.  He was a devoted uncle to his two nieces, Alison Wolfe Bloch and Margot Wolfe Bloch of San Francisco, CA, and enjoyed wonderful times with his aunts, uncles and many cousins.  After graduating from Noble and Greenough and Carnegie-Mellon, Jim enjoyed a series of varied careers in banking, financial analysis, gemology and information technology spanning over 30 years.  Jim made friends wherever he went, and will always be remembered for his vast intellectual curiosity, his highly-developed sense of humor, and his concern for others, especially dogs.

A graveside service will be held at Sharon Memorial Park, 120 Canton St., Sharon, on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 11:45 AM.  Memorial observance will be at the home of his sister on Wednesday following the service until 7:30 PM.  In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be donated to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (www.aspca.org).

Marjorie Deitz

DEITZ, Marjorie (Mintz) Of Framingham, formerly of Worcester, on Friday, April 13th, age 95. Beloved wife of 61 years of the late Theodore Deitz. Devoted mother of Jane Adolph, wife of Bill Poznik of Hudson and John Deitz of Aurora, IL. Beloved former mother-in-law of Jane Deitz of Chicago. Beloved sister of the late Richard Mintz. Cherished grandmother of Daniel Kopelman and his wife, Robin Fogelman, Janis, wife of Mark Jordan, John Adolph and his wife, Sarah, Alison, wife of Peter Kaplan, Sarah, wife of Jay McMahon, and Aaron Deitz. Also survived by 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 16th, in Temple Emanuel, 280 May St., Worcester, under the direction of Brezniak Rodman Funeral Home. Burial will be in B’Nai Brith Cemetery, Worcester. Memorial Observance will be held through Monday evening, April 16th, at the Clubhouse, (between 20 & 22 Hummock Way) in Hudson and 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, April 17th, at the residence of Jane Adolph and Bill Poznik, 1 Hummock Way, Hudson. Richard Longman

Retired Navy Cdr. Richard “Dick” Longman, 81, formerly of Sandy Point Farms, Portsmouth, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Lasell House in Newton, MA.  He passed away peacefully with family present.  He was the husband of Mary C. Longman.

Born in Bell, CA on April 27, 1930, he was the son of Ralph and Alyce Longman. Cdr. Longman, a graduate of UCLA, served in the Navy for 26 years, retiring in 1979.  While serving on the Navy Harbor Defense Team in Yokosuka, Japan, he married Mary Ann Crocker on September 19, 1954.  He then was posted to the Naval Attaché in Rome, Italy. 

Cdr. Longman came to Newport in 1959 where he attended first as a student and later served on staff of the Naval War College.  He also served two tours of duty in Vietnam, the first as a harbor defense advisor based in Saigon, and subsequently as commanding officer of the destroyer, USS Stickell.

Other tours of duty at sea included postings to the USS Joseph P. Kennedy as the operations officer during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  The USS Kennedy took an active part in the blockade of Cuba stopping and boarding the freighter Marucla.  He also served as executive officer of the destroyer, USS Brownson.  Cdr. Longman’s shore tours included Dahlgren, VA, and Newport, RI.

Upon retiring from the Navy, Cdr. Longman worked for Hughes Aircraft and Raytheon working on various projects for the Ohio class “Trident” nuclear powered submarine.  He was a member and former president of the Portsmouth Rotary Club, and active with the Naval War College Foundation.

In addition to his wife Mary, he leaves two sons, Christopher J. Longman Esq. of Williston Park, NY, and Richard C. Longman Esq. of San Diego, CA; a daughter, Tracie L. Longman Esq. of Newton, MA; a brother, Robert Longman of Newport Beach, CA; and three grandsons and two granddaughters.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 12 noon at the home of Tracie Longman, 141 Prince Street, West Newton, MA.  Remembrances in Cdr. Longman’s name may be made to Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund, PO Box 3968, Gaithersburg, MD 20885-3968.

CARTER, Jo-Ann (Antick), of Framingham and formerly of Newton, passed away on April 13, 2012. Beloved wife, best friend, and soul mate of Richard P. Burchell. Devoted mother of Lori Frascolla. Dearest nana of Frank, Angelo, and Braeden Frascolla. Jo-Ann is also survived by her brother, Leonard Antick. Graveside services at Sharon Memorial Park, 120 Canton St., Sharon, MA, on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 12:45 pm. Following interment, a memorial observance will take place at her late residence until 7 pm, and on Tuesday from 1 pm through 7 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Shirley Ida Matt

Shirley Ida Matt, age 92, of Las Vegas, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012. Shirley was born January 28, 1920 in Lodz, Poland, to the late Harry and the late Bertha Unikowsky. She moved to Boston MA, at three years old. After graduating high school, Shirley entered the workforce as a bookkeeper. Seven years later, she married Arthur Matt. They lived in Chattooga, TN, while Arthur was in the service, then moved back to Boston to raise their children, Paul and Resa. She was an active volunteer for City of Hope and a member of Temple Beth Hillel. Shirley lived in Florida for 30 years. She was a volunteer with the Treasure Chest hospice store. After moving to Las Vegas in 2000, Shirley became active in a JCC Chavurah and L’Dor V’Dor. Shirley is survived by her children Resa (Mark) Snyder of Las Vegas and Paul (Teddy Teller) Matt of Sammamish, WA; grandchildren Scott Snyder of Bozeman, MT, Keith Snyder of Sharon, MA, Alexandra Matt of Sammamish, WA and Evan Matt of Sammamish, WA; and brother Nathan Ulin of NJ. She is predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Arthur Matt and brother Irving Ulin. A graveside service will be held at 9:45 am on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Sharon Memorial Park, 120 Canton Street, Sharon, MA 02067. Shiva will be Sunday and Monday at the home of Lori and Russell Fanara in Canton, MA.
