Jeffrey Sosnovik, beloved father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on
June 24, 2022. He was 88 years old and lived a full and wonderful life. He was born
in Johannesburg into a large and closely-knit Jewish family. Devotion-to-family and
Jewish identity remained central to him for the rest of his life. Jeffrey studied
commerce and economics at university, including time spent on a scholarship at the
London School of Economics. He then returned to South Africa to assist his father in
running a manufacturing business, but above all, he was a wonderfully devoted
father to his three children Josepha (Sephi), Adie and David. Nothing gave him more
joy than helping them take on the challenges and goals that they had chosen. He was
an incredibly tolerant, kind, nurturing and supportive man.
Jeffrey had a diverse array of interests and hobbies including horse-riding,
yoga (even before it was popular), hiking, classical music, photography and computer
science. Having seen all three of his children through university and onto their career
paths, Jeffrey emigrated with his then-wife Gilda to the United States at age 65.
Despite having lived in extremely large cities all his life, he embraced life in the small
town of Sequim in the Olympic Peninsula. He immersed himself all that Sequim had
to offer from mountain hikes along glaciers to strolls along the beach at sunset. He
was at his happiest in the phenomenal natural beauty of Sequim and hiked 4-5
times/week until his mid-80s. Jeffrey was unusually “tech-savvy” for a man of his
generation, which allowed him to stay in close contact with Adie in London, Sephi in
Chicago and David in Boston. He was always there to listen, discuss the merits of the
latest Apps and software upgrades, or provide an opinion on the merits of a
particular stock. Of course, nothing beat an in-person visit to him in Sequim, which
was always relaxing, rejuvenating and greatly treasured.
Jeffrey became extremely popular with the locals of Sequim– he was a wonderful
listener and had time and a smile for everybody. His smile exuded warmth and
calmness and would light up a room. Jeffrey and Gilda were married for 39 years and
continued to remain close in Sequim, where they both lived, until he came to Boston
for health reasons at 85.
Nothing gave Jeffrey more joy than being with his grandchildren Steven, Elizabeth
(Ellie) and Charlotte. He was able to spend a large amount of time with them and
watch them grow up. Whether playing catch, balloons or reading to them on his lap –
his face would beam with joy. Even when his mobility decreased in his last few
years, he would push his walker with great determination over fairly challenging
terrain to watch Ellie, Charlotte and his daughter-in-law Debbie play tennis.
Whenever someone hit a good shot he (and Debbie) would break into a huge smile
and cheer.
Jeffrey would always respect and listen to an opposing viewpoint. Discussions with
him were never heated. Everyone who knew Jeffrey, even just briefly, would
comment on his warmth and kindness. He leaves a wonderful legacy of Tikkum-
Olam. He was a special man, admired and respected by all, and will be sorely
missed. He is survived by his children Sephi, Adie and David Sosnovik; grandchildren
Steven Decker, Elizabeth and Charlotte Sosnovik, daughter-in-law Debbie Goldstein
and ex-wife Gilda Sosnovik.
In the spirit of Jeffrey, tributes can be made to the following charities:

After marrying Judy, his young sweetheart, Bill began a long and storied career in Accounting and Sales at General Electric. Bill had the ability to put anyone he talked to at ease and was beloved in his professional community until he retired in 1991. Bill had also been a member of the National Guard.
Bill’s family was in his heart every moment of every day. Settling with Judy in Chestnut Hill, Bill raised his three children as a model father. There was no shortage of fun, encouragement, or Dunkin’ Donuts in the Schlosberg home. Bill was generous with his affection and quick with a joke. He loved to sing, read biographies, play golf and baseball, and watch the Red Sox. Bill will be remembered for always putting others first and giving anything to anybody. From summers in Cape Cod to winter visits to Florida, the whole family has countless special memories of Bill together with everyone. Age 91, of Dedham, formerly of New Bedford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 26, 2022.
Elaine was the daughter of Sam and Sadie Silver of Newton and the beloved wife of Dr. Paul Chervinsky of New Bedford, to whom she was married for almost 71 years. She was totally devoted to her husband, serving for many years as the office manager of his medical practice, and was especially dedicated to her family, who loved her so much and will miss her beauty, her warmth, her smile, and her sense of humor, as she was always a great audience for a good joke or story. She was the mother of Gerry and his partner Holly Boyer, and Debbie Moll and her husband Jonathan, grandmother of Sarah and her fiance Leon Roche, Jake and his wife Lindsay, Benjie Moll and his wife Anna, and Danny Moll and his wife Marina. She was so enchanted by her two young great- granddaughters, Sophie Moll and Janey Moll.
Elaine and her husband Paul lived what each of them would call a “charmed life” in which they always took care of each other and were each other’s #1 priority. She was a true lady, always impeccably dressed, elegant and refined. They traveled the world together and were avid golf partners. She was a fierce bowler, an excellent cook, a committed homemaker. She loved all animals, ranging from Gerry’s dog Brinkley to Danny and Marina’s dog Riley to whatever animals might be featured on the weekly Marlin Perkins Wild Kingdom program.
Over the years Elaine partnered with Paul in multiple philanthropic activities, many of which focused on providing educational opportunities for deserving recipients. They established the Paul and Elaine Chervinsky Charitable Foundation which among other pursuits provided scholarships for New Bedford High School students to attend college, four endowed scholarships at Tufts Medical School, endowed the Paul and Elaine Chervinsky Professorship in Immunology at Tufts Medical School, and supported other charities in New Bedford, Israel, and all across the world. Elaine was a life member of Hadassah with an ongoing commitment to Keepers of the Gate. She had been the first student accepted to Brandeis University but chose to attend Simmons College instead in order to be close to Paul at Tufts Medical School.
Private services are being held for family and the closest of friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Elaine’s memory to Tifereth Israel Synagogue of New Bedford or Newbridge on the Charles/Hebrew Senior Life.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Eric earned a B.A. from Queens College and an M.F.A. from the New England Conservatory of Music. He retired in 2003 from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, where he worked enthusiastically as a computer programmer for nearly 30 years, quietly maintaining the infrastructure of the banking system, including the check sorters in their years of declining use.
Eric was an accomplished pianist and accompanist. In 1967, during his army service in Vietnam, he was chosen to accompany the legendary tenor and cantor Richard Tucker when he came to conduct a Seder for Jewish servicemen and to entertain the troops in Saigon. That led to his inclusion in a touring singing and comedy quintet of enlisted men who were ferried by helicopter to and from remote outposts where no stars and dancing girls could go. He loved choral music, opera, and especially Gilbert and Sullivan. He participated avidly during his entire working life in local choirs and amateur and semi-pro productions as a performer, accompanist, composer, rehearsal director, and music director.
Eric had a lifelong passion for mind sports, most notably the game of bridge. He was an Emerald Life Master. From his early days playing with future world champions in college, through hundreds of sessions at the Chess Club in Boston, to frequent competitions at the highest levels in North American Bridge Championships and more recently in online international competitions, he loved bridge and the camaraderie around it. A passionate and lifelong fan of baseball, he grew up adoring the Brooklyn Dodgers. Following their exodus, he rejoiced and despaired each day during the baseball season with the ups and frequent downs of his beloved New York Mets, whom he followed obsessively for the entirety of his remaining years.
All services will be private. He will be laid to rest in Long Island alongside his parents, Samuel and Cecil (Schoichet) Schwartz.

Dr. Joel Vincent Weinstock passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022. An international pioneer in the study and treatment of inflammatory conditions of the digestive system, Dr. Weinstock coined the term “hygiene hypothesis” – the theory that raising children in extremely hygienic environments has an adverse impact on immune development, predisposing them to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and other immunological disorders later in life. Dr. Weinstock is world-renowned for his innovative and extensive research on helminths – small, parasitic worms, once more common in the intestinal tract, that have shown to be protective against IBD.
Born on March 21, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan to middle-class parents Esther and Herman Weinstock during the height of the space race, Joel developed his knack for medicine and ingenuity at an early age. After finishing high school, Dr. Weinstock won a full scholarship to Wayne State University School of Medicine, where he graduated at the top of his class. He completed his residency and fellowship at University Hospitals and Clinics of Michigan in Ann Arbor before returning to Wayne State as Vice-Chief in the Division of Gastroenterology, where he cultivated his expertise in inflammatory bowel disease, publishing breakthrough papers in the new era of study involving granuloma development and immune regulation.
At the age of 35, Dr. Weinstock left Wayne State to become Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and of the Digestive Disease Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, positions he held for 19 years until 2005, when he became Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, a position he held for the following 15 years.
Dr. Weinstock was known professionally as a devoted physician leader, researcher, educator, and fierce advocate for his patients and their families. He often gave patients his home telephone number. His laboratory was awarded millions of dollars in decades of funding to active research programs, encompassing basic science through clinical trials related to IBD.
As devoted as Dr. Weinstock was to fathering breakthroughs in his field of study, Joel was an equally devoted and successful husband and father to his family. He was an avid student of history, lover of nature, director of projects, appreciator of culture, and a loyal friend to many. Joel was especially fond of multi-colored lilies throughout his garden that he affectionately called his fireworks.
Dr. Weinstock is survived by his wife of 40 years, Alison, and their adult children Lisa, Jeff, and Andrew, who all reside in the Boston area. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 11:30 am at Beit Olam East Cemetery, 44 Concord Rd., Wayland, MA 01778.

Moshe grew up in Karkur, Israel attending high school at Kibbutz Evron in the Western Galilea. After graduation, he went on to be an officer in the Israeli army before immigrating to the United States in 1984. In 1989 he married Michelle (Druker) and went on to raise their family including two sons, Nathaniel and Aaron in Maynard, MA.
Moshe spent his career building everything from garden, to stonewalls, to home renovations and repairs working for Zen Associations, his own business Jacob Home Services and most recently at Brandeis University. He could fix just about anything from cars to appliances with extreme patience and self-taught knowledge.
Moshe was a dad and husband first sacrificing everything to make sure the family had security and opportunities while always putting their needs before his own. He would give of his time, love, wisdom, and technical skills without hesitation to his immediate and extended families at any time
Moshe was a citizen of both the US and Israel with extensive knowledge of politics and current events in both lands and would love to discuss and debate in detail with others. His homeland of Israel was always in his heart and had could tell nostalgic stories of his youth and his family in detail. He often would quote wisdom bestowed on him from his mother who had sage advice for all situations. He loved listening to Israeli nationalist and other Israeli music and comedians from the years past and would sing and translate for Michelle and the boys the meaning of these songs. You could tell what light it gave to his spirit to hear this music.
Moshe was an avid Celtics fan and was excited to see the team advanced to the playoffs. He enjoyed watching games with Aaron and Nate when time allowed. For his last birthday, the family attended a game live which he enjoyed even though he would have been content watching at home. He found much peace and comfort spending time at home with the family not needing much material or outside adventures.

Colonel Ralph Zimmerman, USAF-Of Boston, on April 24, 2022.Ralph was born in Brooklyn New York in 1934. He was raised in Haifa, Israel where he met his future wife of 67½-years, Rivka. Ralph and Rivka were high school sweethearts and met while in they were in the scouts. In 1952, when Ralph was 18-years old, he worked his way to the United States as a deckhand on a commercial freighter. Upon his arrival in the US, during the height of the Korean War, as a US citizen, he was informed of his impending draft into the military. Rather than being drafted, he joined the US Air Force. In 1954, upon being commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, Ralph returned to Israel to marry his sweetheart Rivka. They were both 20-years old. Ralph and Rivka went on to have 3-children; Grace, David and Bill. After a 25-year career in the US Air Force, Ralph retired as a full Colonel, at the age of 43, and moved to the private sector, in Dayton Ohio, where he worked for another 20-years before retiring to Boston with Rika. In retirement, Ralph and Rivka traveled the world extensively. Their travels included spending 4-months each winter in Haifa, Israel, enjoying family, old friends and the country.
Ralph enlisted in the US Air Force on December 17, 1952, as an enlisted man, during the height of the Korean War. Soon thereafter he proceeded to Officer’s Training School where he was awarded his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in September of 1954 and then his Navigator’s Wings that November. He then took advantage of the Air Force’s need for pilots during the height of the Cold War and went to pilot training where he was awarded his Pilot’s Wings in August 1957. Ralph was one the few “dual rated” pilots in the Air Force at that time having earned both his Navigator’s and Pilot’s Wings. After pilot training, he went on to become a co-pilot of B-47 crew, in the Strategic Air Command (SAC), tasked with carrying nuclear weapons during the Cold War.
From there, in April of 1965, Ralph was transferred to the Republic of South Vietnam. He was assigned to the 19th Tactical Air Support Squadron (TASS) in the role of a Forward Air Controller (FAC). In this role, during his one-year deployment, he flew 475 combat sorties, for which he was awarded 19-Air Medals and the Bronze Star. Additionally, in the summer of 1965 Ralph was shot down by enemy ground fire, crash landed his O-1E BirdDog in a US Army Special Forces camp’s perimeter mine field and walked away from the crash, only to fly another mission, in another aircraft, later that day, because that’s who he was.
Ralph took every opportunity that the Air Force offered to further his education, earning both a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and a Master in Business Administration (MBA) as well as attending numerous other military schooling opportunities.
Following his tour of duty in Vietnam, Ralph rejoined his family for a 3½-year assignment as the Base Operations Officer at a US Air Force base in England. It was here that he completed his MBA. England was followed by stations in Sacramento, California and Dayton, Ohio. It was in Dayton where Ralph performed some of his most important work during his Air Force career. It was here that he led the logistics teams that acquired both the F-15 and A-10 aircraft for the Air Force. In this role, he travelled to and briefed many high-level general officers at the Pentagon. Ralph retired from the Air Force, as a full Colonel, on February 28, 1977. He was awarded The Legion of Merit upon his retirement.
Ralph’s military retirement accommodated his wife’s desire to further her education and become a successful business woman in corporate America. Ralph joined Dayco Corporation where he became an intrapreneur, launching a new business within Dayco Corporation which he headed as its president. The business was a Third-Party Health Administrator (TPA). These types of organizations were the first corporate efforts to control skyrocketing healthcare costs. Ralph became an expert at healthcare cost containment, advising numerous CEOs and corporations around the country. He also advised the chairman of Dayco on the best investment strategies for the corporate retirement funds. Ralph’s TPA business, BenePlan Strategies, became a nice profit center for Dayco which they eventually spun off. He retired from BenePlan Strategies in 1997.
Ralph was a decisive, determined, very hard working, exceptionally loyal, ethical beyond measure, highly intelligent and compassionate person. Ralph was a dedicated family man, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a very generous son-in-law, inviting his in-laws to live with the family for months at a time on a regular basis, including traveling together on vacations in Europe and the United States. Ralph was a beloved and special friend to all of Ralph and Rivka’s friends. Ralph’s life revolved around his career and his family. All of us have been enriched and are grateful to have been loved and cared for by him. Ralph passed away on April 24, 2022 and will be greatly missed.
The family is holding a private funeral on Thursday morning. Friends are warmly invited to join the family at the shiva which will take place at 3 Tamarack Rd., Weston, MA on Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Friday April 29, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either the Jewish National Fund Trees JNF Trees, to plant trees in Ralph’s beloved Israel, or The Honor Foundation Honor Foundation, an organization that helps military Special Forces troops transition to private sector careers.
