Norman D. Silver

fullsizerenderSilver- Norman David, age 88, of Needham and Yarmouthport, on November 17, 2016. Norman was the loving husband of Jeanne (Karagosian) Silver, brother of Elaine (Paul) Chervinsky and the late Bernice Damelin;  father of Mitchell (Carol) Silver and Lori (Howard) Rosenblum, and the late Ellen Silver and the late Joy Silver; his beloved grandchildren Rachel, Zachary and Benjamin Silver, and Daniel (Laura), Andrew and Jeremy Rosenblum, and great grandson Charles Rosenblum. Norman will be greatly missed by his devoted dog, Shoonie. In addition to his immediate family, Norman leaves a very extended family. Norman was a graduate of Tufts University, and received his Master of Science from Boston University. Norman owned and operated Publix Market in Fields Corner, Dorchester and Jamaica Plain for many years. He served as President of the Boston Retail Grocers Association. After his first retirement, Norman went on to have a very successful career as a stock broker, retiring as First Vice President of Investments at Smith Barney. Norman was a member of Temple Aliyah of Needham and the Moses Michael Hays Lodge AF & AM. Norman and Jeanne were married for over 32 years and enjoyed travel to many interesting and exotic places. They returned to one of their favorite spots, Aruba, each year for 30 years. Services at Temple Aliyah, 1664 Central Street, Needham, on Monday, November 21, 2016, at 10 am. Following interment at Newton Cemetery, Newton, memorial observance will be at his residence through 9 pm. Aaron David Saltzman

Age 31, of West Newton, formerly of Needham. Beloved son of Robert S. Saltzman and the late Jenifer F. (Haber) Saltzman. Loving brother of Alissa Saltzman-Cellucci. Dear uncle of Jacob and Alexis Cellucci. Step-son of Gail H. Kosloff. Memorial service at Temple Beth Shalom, 670 Highland Ave., Needham, on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 2:00 pm.  Memorial observance immediately following the service at Temple Beth Shalom. Byla R. (Riseberg) Borr

Of West Newton, on November 17, 2016. Beloved wife of the late Howard Borr. Devoted mother of David Borr and his wife Laurie, and Nancy Borr. Caring grandmother of Michael, Amy, and Eric Borr, and Adam and Jennifer Bouché. Great-grandmother of Jordan Borr. Loving sister of Raymond Riseberg and his wife June, the late Robert Riseberg, and the late Gladys Melamed.

Byla Borr spent her earliest years in Waltham and Newton. She served as both a buyer and a saleswoman with Riseberg’s of Waltham, investing her time and energy into her family’s business. In May of 1956, she married businessman Howard Borr. Together they began a family. They first lived in Belmont before returning to West Newton, where Byla would live for the rest of her years. In her later days, she remained active and engaged, attending local gym classes and playing bridge with her friends. She cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. She was a long-time member of the Beth El Temple Center in Belmont. For all that she accomplished in her life, her legacy will remain the impression of love that she has left upon her family and all those by whom she was surrounded in her life.

Diane D. Teller

Teller- Diane D. (Warkel), age 76, a longtime resident of Brockton, died Wednesday, November 16, 2016, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. The daughter of the late Isaac and Bessie (Willinsky), and the wife of the late Edward B. Teller. She is survived by her husband Morton Saftler, her son Jeffrey Teller and his significant other Christine Rice, and daughter and son in law Janice Teller-Levy and Danny Levy. She was a loving Bubbie to Elana and Dara Teller of Wellington, FL and Ethan and Shira Levy of Easton. Sister of Alan Warkel and the late Pearl Robie. Ruth (Gottlieb) Ginsberg

Ruth (Gottlieb) Ginsberg-of Dedham, formerly of Needham, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2016 surrounded by her family. Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Ruth and her family fled to the United States to escape the Nazis in 1940 when she was 11 years old. Loving mother of Mark Ginsberg and his wife Susan of Silver Spring, MD and Alan Ginsberg of Chestnut Hill, MA. Ethel (Newman) Goldberg

Age 102, of Dedham, formerly of Newton and Delray Beach, FL, on November 15, 2016. Beloved wife of the late David Goldberg. Devoted mother of Ellen Kagno and her husband Morris, Len Goldberg and his wife Linda, and Sandra Goldberg and her husband Stanley. Dear sister of the late Jack, Al, and Edward Newman and Ida Stone. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Ethel was a former art teacher and founder of the We Care Program at Rainberry Bay in Delray Beach, FL. Graveside service at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon (gather at Administration Building), THURSDAY, November 17, 2016 at 1:45 pm. Edward Fleishman

Edward Fleishman, 97, of Swampscott, died on November 15, 2016 at the Metro West Medical Center in Framingham. He was the beloved husband of the late Edythe (Rothbard) Fleishman who died in 1999.

Born in East Boston, son of the late Phillip and Jennie (Tabachnick) Fleishman, he was raised in Chelsea and a graduate of Chelsea High School.  Mr. Fleishman entered the United States Navy on May 17, 1944 and served on the USS Shangri-La during WWII as a Photographers Mate Second Class.  He received the WWII Victory Medal, the American Area Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Medal with 2 stars. After his honorable discharge on April 6, 1946, Mr. Fleishman was employed as a design engineer in the optical systems industry.  An avid bowler, Mr. Fleishman continued to bowl until the age of 95 and also enjoyed playing cards, especially Poker and Gin and was a Mason.  A longtime member of the former Temple Israel in Swampscott, he founded the Intefor Club at the synagogue.

Mr. Fleishman was the devoted father of Jerry Fleishman and his late wife Lynn Feldman, Ellen Fleishman and her husband Allen Gottlieb, and Penny Davidson and her husband Arnie Davidson; loving grandfather of Rebecca and her husband Kyle, Adina, Elie, Ami, Max and his wife Nomi, Sasha, and Lara; cherished great-grandfather of Gabe,  and dear brother of the late Mollie Riskin, Sydney Fleishman, and Ruth Weiner.

Services will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 10:00 am in the Wilson Chapel, 234 Herrick Rd., Newton followed by burial in the Mishna Cemetery in Everett.  Memorial observance will be held in the Clubhouse at Summit Estates, 1000 Paradise Rd., Swampscott on Friday from 1:30 – 4:00 pm. Devoted mother of her son Scott Brody and his wife Donna of Dracut; son Michael Brody and his wife Lisa of Simi Valley, Calif.; and her late son Avram Brody. Devoted step-mother of her step-daughter Alison Doucette and her husband Billy of Norwood, step-son Gary Braverman and his wife Gayle of Lakeville, and her late step-son Keith Braverman and his wife Loretta of Norwood. Loving sister of Ronnie Kaster and her husband Leonard of Millis. Adoring grandmother of Samantha, Rachel, Gregory, Benjamin and Matthew Brody, and Jennifer, Samantha, Brandon, Rebecca, Joshua, Noah, Ari and the late Michael Braverman, and Vinnie DeBartolo.
