Services at Temple Shir Tikva, 141 Boston Post Rd., Wayland, on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 10:00 am, followed by interment at Beit Olam East Cemetery, 42 Concord Rd., Wayland. Of Newton, peacefully passed in her home on April 1, 2015, at 92 years of age.  Formerly of Todos Santos, Mexico, Ridgefield, CT, and Orillia, Ontario, Canada.  Born as an only child in Rochester, NY, to the late Harry Goff Reed and Grace Whedon.  Former wife of  the late Jay Cody.  Loving mother to Michael Cody and her husband Anthony D’Ambrosio of Red Hook, NY, Susan Cody of Toronto, Ontario, Martha Cody of Bedford, Nova Scotia, Amy Cody and husband John Furst of Newton, MA, and Anne Cody of Natick, MA.  Devoted grandmother to Stephen Kershaw, Cody D’Ambrosio, Arlo Furst, Madeline Furst, Mario Botticelli and Anthony Botticelli.  Beloved companion of the late Dr. John Strathern.  Attended Colby Sawyer College.  Owner and operator of Big Chief Lodge, a family resort on Lake Couchiching in Ontario and later, an Executive Secretary at General Electric Headquarters in Stamford, CT.  Moved to Mexico in her sixties and began a new chapter filled with adventure, cultural immersion, walks on the beach with her dogs, and new friends.  Voracious  reader, inquisitive and sharp mind, big appetite for left-wing political commentators,  and courageous spirit.  Memorial service to be held at Wilson Chapel, 234 Herrick Rd., Newton, on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 10:30 am.  Please consider giving a gift to The Second Step,288 Walnut St.(Suite 100) Newtonville,MA 02460  in Mary’s honor.

Grandfather of Samuel and Maxine Melnick of Newton, Adam Shapiro and his wife Paulina of Westboro, Daniel Shapiro of Quincy, and Robert Shapiro of Ashland. Great-grandfather of Zofia and Lily Shapiro of Westboro. Brother of Marshall Shapiro and his wife Dorothy of Hastings, MN, and the late George and Harold Shapiro. Brother-in-law of Dan Frisoli and his late wife late Catherine Frisoli of Waltham, and Rose Caruso Nicolazzo and her late husband Patrick Nicolazzo of Peabody. Very special uncle to Donna Frisoli of Waltham, Cheryl Bibault and her husband Jacques of Holliston, Judith Bater and her husband David of Sutton, and Daniel Frisoli of Quincy. Also survived by many other loving nieces and nephews. Sidney owned and operated Aro Manufacturing Company of West Newton for many years employing many area residents. In retirement he and Rose operated The Tote Collection, a successful high-end craft business fabricating and selling tote and handbags which kept them engaged and busy. A great source of joy in his retirement was the West Suburban YMCA where he would be found five days a week working out with his many friends. Special acknowledgment to the time spent in the Laura D. class. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11 am in the Wilson Chapel, 234 Herrick Rd., Newton Centre, MA. Donations in Sidney’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
