Norma Ada (Ligums) Rowe

passed away on June 13, 2014 in the company of her son Kenneth and his fiancee Susanne Lowen. She had recently relocated to Washington, DC from Boynton Beach, FL where she lived for 15 years. Born March 6, 1930 in Everett, MA, Norma married David Rowe on September 10, 1950. They are survived by children Cathy, Andy and Kenneth, Andy’s wife Cyndee Rowe, grandchildren Mahriana Rofheart, Saraswati Rowe, David Rowe and William Rowe, brother Melvin Ligums, sister Roslyn Brunell and sister-in-law Elaine Ligums. May she join her cherished granddaughter, Nicole Rowe, brother Earl Ligums and beloved husband, David Rowe, in eternal peace. A private memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2014 in Newton, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ORT America (http://www.ortamerica.org/).

Sylvia Levitan Cotzin

age 101, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family at the Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor, Michigan on July 19, 2014. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 12, 1913 to Daniel and Anna Levitan. After growing up in New York, she moved to Miami Beach where was secretary to Rabbi Irving Lehrman of Temple Emanu-El.  She then married and moved to Holyoke, MA, where she was active in the Sons of Zion synagogue for many years and worked in the family business, Feinstein Leather Company. Upon retirement, she moved to Florida. Ten years ago she moved to Ann Arbor, MI. She is predeceased by her husband Samuel Cotzin.  She leaves behind a son, Alan (Bette) Cotzin of Ann Arbor, Michigan; a daughter Norma (Michael) Passo of Fairfield, Connecticut; grandchildren Miriam (Daniel) Burg of Baltimore, MD., Debra(Rick) Kellner of Columbus, Ohio, Marc(Julie) Passo of Denver, Co., and Ellen(Jeffrey) Shaw of West Hartford, CT.; and six great grandchildren , Ellie, Shamir, Zoe, Shira, Abraham and Ezra. Milton and Sidney were her two adoring brothers who predeceased her. She will always be remembered as a woman devoted to her family, and as one who gave of herself to others. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Interment will take place at B’nai Brith Cemetery in Worcester, MA. Loving brother of Marshall Lurie and Joshua Lurie and his wife Jean. Services at Temple Beth Am, 871 North Main Street, Randolph, on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Following interment at Baker Street, West Roxbury, memorial observance will be at his residence on Sunday until 9 pm and continuing Monday through Thursday, 12-5 , 6:30- 9 pm, Friday 12-5 pm. Remembrances may be made to Temple Beth Am, Randolph.

Douglas Lurie was born in Boston in 1950 and lived on Seaver Street in Roxbury until his family moved to Randolph in 1958.

After graduating from Randolph High School in 1967, Doug earned an Associates Degree from Quincy College and then a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Boston State College in 1972.  After working for St. Johnsbury Trucking Company and various sales jobs, he opened a retail concession at Bob’s Discount in Revere from 1978-1991.

Doug established and became proprietor of Doug’s Bargains on Broadway in Chelsea, MA in 1991 and Doug’s Jewelers, in Chelsea in 1997, working there until 2009. As part of the Chelsea community, Doug served on the Board of Directors of the Chelsea Chamber of Commerce and was Past-President of the Chelsea Kiwanis Club.   Most recently he was a member of the management team at the original Bob’s Discount in New Bedford, MA and he was passionate about working at the Revere Flea Market every Sunday.

Doug was an active member of Temple Beth Am.  He was an Advisor and Youth Director of Randolph USY from 1975-1978 when the youth group had a membership of more than 400, the largest in the New England Region.  Doug served on the Temple Beth Am House Committee, was a member and past Co-Chairman of the Youth Committee, and was a long-serving member of both the Temple Beth Am Board of Directors and the Temple Beth Am Brotherhood Board of Directors.  In 2013 the New England Region of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs awarded Doug the Keeper of the Flame Award, which honors leadership in Jewish life.

A Free Mason since 1971, Doug was a third generation Past Master of Germania Lodge (now The Consolidated Lodge, A.F. & A.M.) and was a Past President of the First Worshipful Masters Association of Massachusetts.

Doug loved learning and speaking Spanish, talking about and eating food, going out to restaurants, driving and exploring.  He greatly enjoyed his most recent trip to Israel, and vacations in Cape Cod and Maine.  Most of all, he passionately loved his family and (hundreds of friends).

Doug made his home in Randolph with his wife of 41 years, Cindy.  He has three children: Devra Dutton and her husband Zachary of Arlington; David of New York City; Robert of Quincy; and two granddaughters, Sylvie and Cora Dutton…all of whom were the lights and loves of his life.

Jon S. Davis.  Age 70, of Hingham died July 14 of glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer.  Adored husband of 46 years of Jane Carmen Davis, formerly of Newton, exemplary father of Hadley Davis Rierson and Carrie Davis Lebovich of Los Angeles, and a cornerstone of both his extended family and the Massachusetts real estate legal community. Born in Ottawa Hills, Ohio, he was a graduate of the University of Michigan and president of its class of 1965. He earned a law degree from the George Washington National Law Center and while there was a staff member of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Kerner Commission.  In 1968, he and Jane joined the Peace Corps moving to Quito, Ecuador.  He later founded the real estate firm Driscoll & Davis, renamed Stanton & Davis in Marshfield. A member of the Abstract Club, he served as president and board member of the American Legal & Financial Association and the Real Estate Bar Association of Massachusetts (REBA).  He was a founding board member of the Talking Information Center, a Marshfield nonprofit providing broadcasts for the visually impaired.  An avid golfer, he looked forward to summer days at the Cohasset Golf Club.  In addition to his wife and daughters, he is survived by his brother, Sam Davis of Berkeley, California, a sister, Beth Karren, of Piedmont, California and four grandchildren.

Memorial service on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 2:00 pm, Derby Academy, Larsen Hall, 56 Burditt Ave., Hingham.

Ethel “Midge” Resnick Liner

Ethel “Midge” Resnick Liner, (Fatles), 89, of Wellesley and Newton, on July 13,2014, surronded by her children. Beloved wife of the late Robert Liner and the late Donald Resnick. Loving mother of Sam and Adriana Resnick, Richard Resnick, Sheryl Marshall and her husband Howard Salwen,and mother in law of Ilyn Baracewicz.. Beloved sister of Saul Fatles. Adoring Grammy of Jenna, Brett Kevin, Dana and her husband Matt.  Cherished great grandmother of Keaton. She was an avid reader, incredible friend and popular with everyone until her death.  She was a lifelong member of B’nai Brith Women and proud of her activities and presidency of the local chapter. When she moved to Waterstone in Wellesley, she made new friends and was an active participant in all activities. She will be sorely missed.
