Devoted father of Roberta (Katz) Fallon and her husband John Fallon of Mashpee, Massachusetts, Neil Katz, M.D. and his wife Amy (Leong) Katz of Irvine, California, and Susan (Katz) Meister and her husband Michael Meister, M.D. of Coral Gables, Florida. Cherished grandfather of Meredith and David Meister, Matthew Fallon, and Sterling Katz. Dear brother of the late Manuel Katz and the late George Katz. Attended Boston University, World War II Army Veteran, Member of Moses Michael Hays Masonic Lodge A.F. & A. M. and Jewish War Veterans. Services at Temple Israel, 125 Pond Street, Sharon, on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Eli A. Burack

Eli A. Burack, age 99, of Boca Raton, FL, died peacefully at his residence on Saturday, July 5th.

 

Elder patriarch of the Burack family, and the one true love of his wife of nearly 72 years, Claire, Eli was also a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather; a skilled musician and charismatic music director; a gregarious storyteller; a hardworking teacher, farmer and businessman. Eli cultivated friends and admirers far and wide. His sense of humor was equaled by his kindness.

 

Eli A Burack Obituary Photo (3)Eli was a Worcester native, a graduate of Classical High School, where he participated in all of the musical organizations, and served as student conductor of the orchestra for special events.

 

He was a graduate cum laude of the New England Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He attended Boston University (Master’s degree in choral conducting). He was director of the Shrewsbury Men’s Glee Club, a teacher in instrumental music in the Worcester County Public Schools. He was director of vocal and instrumental music at Lyman School in Westborough. He was supervisor of training and education for the Department of Youth Services in Worcester County. He was a member of the Worcester Philharmonic Orchestra and staff musician at radio stations WTAG and WAAB for several years.

 

He was a member of the Connecticut Opera Association. He served as conductor of musical variety programs in the Worcester Memorial Auditorium featuring notable big bands such as Vaughn Monroe and Sammy Kaye. He was also a member of the Plymouth Theater Orchestra, and founding member of the Allan Scott Orchestra. He was a member of the staff of Temple Emanuel for 32 years where he served in multiple capacities: music director, organist, choir director, b’nai mitzvah instructor, and principal of the Religious School for several years.

 

After retirement to Boca Raton, he was invited to direct the adult choir at Temple Beth El. He served as a para-chaplain for the South Palm Beach Jewish Federation and visited the sick in local hospitals. He also conducted weekly religious services  at several nursing homes.

 

Eli was a charter member of the Massachusetts Employees’ Organization and a charter member of the Worcester chapter of the American Guild of Organists. He was a member of and organist for the Masonic Level Lodge of Worcester, and a member of B’nai B’rith and the Anti-Defamation League.

 

He was the recipient of community awards: the Man of the Year Award from Temple Emanuel Brotherhood and the Ner Tamid Award from the Temple Boy Scout Troop. He served as merit badge advisor in the Southwest Worcester Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

 

Eli was predeceased by his wife Claire (Ravitz) Burack, his son Jeffrey Burack, his sister Deborah Glover and his brothers, Harold Burack and Joseph Burack. He is survived by his daughter Laura (Burack) Jaye, wife of Rabbi Harold Jaye, former assistant rabbi of Temple Emanuel, Worcester. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ari, Zachary, and Mira Burack and her husband Jason Janusch, great-grandson Levi Janusch, and nieces and nephews.

 

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE  AT 3:00 PM ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 9,2014 AT TEMPLE EMANUEL,  280 MAY ST., WORCESTER. Burial will be at Holy Society Cemetery, Leicester. Immediately following  interment, a reception will be held in the Sisterhood Room of Temple Emanuel. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Emanuel, 280 May St., Worcester, MA 01602.

Doris (Tobis) Locke

Doris (Tobis) Locke -of Framingham, MA, formerly of Newton and Centerville, MA and Sarasota, FL, passed away on July 6, 2014, following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was the beloved daughter of the late Ralph and Bessie (Weschler) Tobis and sister of the late Lucille Greenberg. Doris was the beloved wife of the late Merle I. Locke and the mother of Ralph (Lona Farhi) Locke and Jean (Alan) Miller. She was the beloved grandmother of Matthew Miller, Meredith Miller, Martha (Adam) Kerner, and Susannah Locke. After the death of her first husband, Doris became the beloved wife of the late Dr. Isadore Schwartz and the stepmother of Penny (Jason) Grossman. She was the beloved grandmother of Rachel Grossman and Richard (Michelle) Grossman. She was the adored great-grandmother of Zachary, Vivian, Bridget and Emma. Doris was the cherished cousin of Bernice Feldberg and a loving aunt to her nieces and nephew.Doris was an active fundraiser and leader in many organizations. She was a devoted member of the congregation of Temple Israel of Boston and was appointed a Lifetime Member of the Board of Trustees. She was a founding member of Women’s Aid for Heart Research and the Women’s Scholarship Association of Greater Boston. Doris was a proud graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Boston, earning her undergraduate degree in Gerontology at the age of 65. She enjoyed life, achieved many milestones, and was caring and kind to all her family and friends. Doris’s family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses and aides who cared for her with skill, kindness and love in her later years. Doris will be greatly missed by those who loved her. Services will be held at Temple Israel, 477 Longwood Avenue, Boston (parking on the Riverway) on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 10:30 am. Interment at Sharon Memorial Park. Memorial observance will be at the home of  Jean and Alan Miller, 5 Angelica Drive, Framingham, 2-8:30 Tuesday. Remembrances in her memory may be made to the Merle I. Irving H. Stoller

of Walpole, formerly of Randolph, on July 2, 2014, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of the late Toba C. (Goldstein) Stoller. Devoted father of Kenneth and Carolyn Stoller, Joel and Sharon Stoller, and Susan and Stephen Lougee. Papa to Jason, Melissa, Samantha, and Eric Stoller and Jennifer and Matthew Lougee. Brother of the late Henry and Julius Stoller. Loving uncle to many. Services at Temple Beth Am, 871 North Main Street, Randolph, Monday, July 7 at 11:00 am. Following interment at Sharon Memorial Park, memorial observance will be at the home of Joel and Sharon Stoller until 9pm and continue Tuesday through Thursday 2-5, 7-9 pm. Nickolaus “Klaus” Pichler

July 1, 2014

Nikolaus R. “Klaus” Pichler, of Framingham, passed away on June 30, 2014 at the U-Mass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.  He was 79 years old.

Born in Klagenfurt, Austria, he was the son of the late Richard and Elisabeth (Madile) Pichler. Klaus was raised and educated in Austria.  He began his career in electrical engineering after attending college and was recruited by the Digital Equipment Corporation to come to America in 1971 to integrate the keyboard and cathode ray tube (CRT) systems.  Klaus was an avid golfer and member of the Holden Country Club.

He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Susan (Feldman) Copeland; his sister, Lorli Daum; and his 2 brothers, Christoph and Peter Pichler.

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Edgell Grove Cemetery, 53 Grove St., Framingham.  Memorial observance will be held at his late residence through Thursday afternoon.  Donations in Klaus’ memory may be made to the U-Mass Memorial Foundation, 333 South St., Suite 13E-495, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.

Norma Adler

Norma Adler, 84, of Framingham, formerly of Manhattan, died peacefully on June 30, 2014, at home. Born in Philadelphia on November 30, 1929, the daughter of the late William Greenberg and Ida (Charney) Greenberg, Norma graduated from Philadelphia High School for Girls and Drexel Institute of Technology. She pursued a career in advertising, and later developed an advertising and marketing industry executive search business in Manhattan. Following her love of art, she enrolled in the Art Students League of NY at the age of 60, and found her passion in abstract art and a community. She lived life fully, enjoying theater, travel, social action and a circle of close friends. She leaves behind her dear cousins, Karen Margolis and Victor Nussbaum of Framingham, and their children (her grandchildren) Leah, Daniel and Jared, and her dear friend Ina Torton. She is survived by her sister Annette Bodzin, and nieces and nephew, Kate Scheinman, Robert Sheinman and Wendy Kadens. She was predeceased by her son, John Adler. Graveside services will be held July 3, 2014, Roosevelt Memorial Park, Trevose, PA. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to The Art Students League of New York to help fund the Norma Adler Scholarship.

Isaac F. “Ike” Beck

of Weston, on July 1, 2014. Beloved husband, father, and grandfather. A self-made businessman and entrepreneur, he was a friend and benefactor of the Boston artist community. Mr. Beck was a simple person who enjoyed cooking, gardening, animals, nature, and spending time fishing in Maine.  Services at Beit Olam – East Cemetery, 42 Concord Rd., Wayland, on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 2:00 pm.  Memorial observance will be private.
