Seymour W. “Sy” Kushner

December 28, 2013

85, of Wellesley, died on December 28, 2013. Devoted husband of Sylvia A. (Weinstein) Kushner. Treasured father of Marc A. Kushner (Laurie Salitan) and Joel L. Kushner (David Wolff). Cherished grandfather of Emily Kushner Salitan, Nora Kushner Salitan, Estuardo Kushner Wolff, and Ella Blum Kushner Rodriguez. Loving brother of Russell Kushner and Diane (Kushner) Kaunfer, ‘zl. Beloved uncle and friend to many. Loyal Mason and Master of the 100th Anniversary of Adelphi Lodge A.F. and A.M. Born in Boston to Al and Mary (Yorra) Kushner of blessed memory, Sy attended Boston Latin School for several years but ultimately graduated from Brighton High before achieving a BS from Northeastern. In 1961, Sy entered into the insurance business with his father-in-law, Philip Weinstein, ‘zl, and later ran the business where he was working daily until a sudden illness and cancer diagnosis in November, that ultimately ended his life. Sy and Sylvia, who married in 1959, lived an active life, filled with exploration around Boston, other parts of the nation and many foreign countries. As recently as this summer, they traveled to five Scandinavian countries. In the past, they visited England, France and regularly went to Montreal, where friends ran a B & B, for the Jazz Festival. They were early “foodies’ and delighted taking friends and relatives to wonderful new restaurants they had discovered in Boston and other places. Sy was an avid fan of the Red Sox and the Patriots, devoured good books, and was a serious aficionado of red wine. Although highly intelligent, Sy never wore his brain on his sleeve. Rather, it was his generous heart that was his most prominent feature. He was a kind, gentle, modest man who appreciated the idiosyncracies of his friends and relatives. He was the definition of a mentch, said Henry Weinstein, a cousin, who like so many was grateful for Sy’s friendship and the marvelous way Sy treated everyone around him. Services at the Brezniak-Rodman Chapel, 1251 Washington St., WEST NEWTON, on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 1:30 pm. Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. Memorial observance will be held at the long-term residence of Sy and Sylvia on Monday immediately following the burial until 8 pm, Tuesday 2-7 pm, and Wednesday 2-7 pm.
