Sara Kalikow-of Orchard Cove, Canton, formerly of Roslyn Heights, NY, on September 20, 2013. Beloved wife of the late Sidney Kalikow. Devoted Mother of  Martin Kalikow and his wife Donna, Judith Altman and her husband Dr. Alan Altman. Dear grandmother of  Deborah and her husband Aaron, Jessie,  Jeanine, Matthew, and Joshua Altman and his fiancé Heather Bilyeu. Loving great-grandmother of Wesley James and Samuel Jak. Dear sister of Pearl Bloom and  her children. Sara was blessed with best caretakers, Alberta, Sheila and Mary. Graveside services at  Mount Hebron Cemetery, Flushing, NY, on Sunday,September 22, 2013. at 2:00 pm. Family will be at the home of  Martin and Donna Kalikow Monday thru Wednesday  2-4, 7-9 pm. Leonard Fuhrer

Leonard Fuhrer (Nov. 23, 1929-Sept 20, 2013), of Wellesley, formerly of NY, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Son of the late Leona and Bernard Fuhrer. Beloved and devoted husband of Frances (Kossin) for 60 years. Survived by children Leslie (Richard), Robert (Judy), and David (Cathy), and 8 loving grandchildren, Evan, Ross Rachel, Sam, Alex, Lara, Daniel, Matthew, and his beloved brother, Robert (Joan). Funeral at 1:30pm Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at Temple Beth Elohim, Wellesley, MA.

Jon William Watson, lovingly known as “Big Jon”, a lifelong resident of Provincetown, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2013.  He was 56 years old.

The youngest child of the late Horace Kilbourne and Ruth (Silva) Watson, Jon was educated in the Provincetown Public School system and was a graduate of Provincetown High School.  He was an employee of the Town of Provincetown Department of Public Works for 12 years and also Cape Cod Oil Company for over 30 years

If anyone ever wanted to know anything about the history of Provincetown they knew Jon was like an encyclopedia with that information.  Jon was a member of the Provincetown Fire Department for 32 years, the King Hiram’s Lodge, the Provincetown Lions Club, and the Mass Beach Buggy Association. He had a heart bigger than anyone and was always happiest when he was offering help through acts of kindness to anyone he came in contact with.  Nothing gave him greater pleasure than spending time with his beloved family.  Jon also found great enjoyment in driving out to Race Point in either his pick-up truck or camper where he would enjoy fishing and spending time with his friends.  He also enjoyed playing Cribbage on Wednesday evening’s at the Provincetown VFW and going to Monte Carlo nights. Jon enjoyed recreational hunting as well as trips to Maine and New York.

Jon was the loving brother of Ruth W. Dutra of Provincetown and Horace Watson of North Carolina.  He was the cherished uncle of Ruth Anne Cowing and her husband Brian of Provincetown, Julie L. Watson, and Horace K. Watson of North Carolina.  Jon is also survived by his aunt, Martha Henrique of Provincetown and many cousins.

Funeral services will be held in the Provincetown United Methodist Church, 20 Shank Painter Rd., Provincetown, on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at 1:00 PM.  Burial will follow in the Provincetown Cemetery.  Those wishing to remember Jon may do so through memorial donations to the Provincetown Rescue Squad, 25 Shank Painter Rd., Provincetown, MA 02657.  Arrangements under the direction of Brian Falvey and the Brezniak-Rodman Funeral Directors

Melvin D. Hoffman

Melvin D. Hoffman, 76, of 14 Hickory Drive, died on Thursday, September 19,2013, at Vibra-Western MA Hospital in Leicester.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Ilene (Rudner) Hoffman; three sons, Richard Hoffman and his wife Jodi of Shrewsbury, Alan Hoffman and his wife Kathy of Avon, MA and Lawrence Hoffman and his wife Sharon of Worcester; a brother, Dr. Howard Hoffman and his wife Sophie of Fairfax Station,VA; five grandchildren, Leila, William, Meagen, Allyson and Julie, and a great granddaughter, Wren.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY, and was a son of Theodore and Mae (Ganslaw) Hoffman and lived in Worcester for 44 years.
He graduated Clark University with an associate degree in mechanical engineering and  received a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Clark University.
From 1970 until 1991 he worked for the family business, Archie’s Motorcycles.
He was a member and past President of Shaarai Torah Synagogue West and  a member of The Auxiliary of The Jewish Healthcare Center.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 12:00 NOON ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, AT SHAARAI TORAH SYNAGOGUE WEST, 835 PLEASANT ST., UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF BREZNIAK RODMAN CHAPELS OF NEWTON. Burial will be in Holy Society Cemetery in Leicester.
Immediately following  interment, Memorial Observance will begin at The Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury St., and will continue  2- 9 pm on Monday Sept. 23 and Tuesday Sept. 24 at his residence, 14 Hickory Drive.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shaarai Torah Synagogue West, 835 Pleasant St., Worcester, MA 01602.

Carolyn (Doobin) Gordon

Age 95, formerly of Worcester, died on Friday, September 13,2013, in Newbridge On The Charles Healthcare in Dedham. Her beloved husband of 68 years, Samuel Gordon, died in 2007. She leaves a son, Joel Gordon and his wife Melissa Wenig of Cambridge, MA; a daughter, Nancy, wife of David Bayer of Framingham, and  was the proud grandmother of Ellen, Mark, Jennifer and Jessica, and great-grandmother of Ari, Jacob, Alexa, Lucas, Abbey, Conner and Jackson. She was also loved by many nieces and nephews. She was caring to family members and friends. She was a devoted and loving daughter-in-law to Pearl and Reuben Gordon. She was predeceased by her sister, Rosemarie Glick. She was grateful for the quality care and compassion provided by the professional staff and  continuously expressed her gratitude. For the past 2 1/2 years, she thrived at Newbridge On The Charles Healthcare Center. She was a master knitter and baker and generously shared her creations with numerous members of the community. She was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue and its Sisterhood and Worcester Chapter of Hadassah.

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE  AT 11:00 am ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 AT BETH ISRAEL SYNAGOGUE, 15 JAMESBURY DRIVE, WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF BREZNIAK RODMAN CHAPELS OF NEWTON. Burial will be in B’Nai Brith Cemetery, Worcester.

Immediately following  interment, Memorial Observance will begin at Beth Israel Synagogue and will continue through Wednesday afternoon at the residence of Nancy and David Bayer. Age 94, formerly of Milton, entered into rest on Saturday, September 14, 2013. Beloved wife of the late Arthur Binder. Devoted mother of Emily and Sumner Blau of Sharon & Jane and Andrew Streisfeld of Needham. Cherished grandmother of Jennifer Schulman, Joshua and Erica Rattet, Adam Streisfeld and Jennifer Thompson, Matthew Streisfeld and his fiancée Carly Cooperman. Also survived by 5 great-grandchildren. Loving sister of the late Leonard Sheingold. Services at Temple Beth Shalom, 670 Highland Ave., Needham, on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Memorial observance will be at the home of Jane and Andrew Streisfeld on Monday and Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
