WORCESTER – Ellen (Headley) Rose, 74, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 12,2013, at The Lutheran Home of Worcester after a long illness. She leaves her daughter, Natalie Rose of Worcester and her son, Rogan Russell Marshall and his wife Angela Wilt of Miami, FL; her brother, Nathan Headley and his wife Krista of Greensboro, NC; her brother-in-law, Tom McHugh; and her nieces, Noelle McHugh Ingram, Kristen McHugh Twilley and Kelly McHugh Brandom. Her beloved sister, Ruth McHugh of Missouri City, TX, predeceased her.
Ellen was born in Lewisburg, PA to Dr. Nathan and Ellen Headly. She graduated from Bucknell University and attended Stanford University. Ms. Rose retired from a long career at Metropolitan Life in 2004 and worked as a substitute teacher in the Worcester Public Schools for 10 years. She was a concert level pianist and vocalist whose faith, music and family meant everything to her. She was an active member of Temple Emanuel Sinai.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE AT 12:00 NOON ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, AT TEMPLE EMANUEL SINAI, 280 MAY ST., Worcester. Burial will be in B’Nai Brith Cemetery.
Memorial Observance will be held 4- 7 pm on Monday, Sept. 16, at the residence of Brittany and David Danielson, 18 School St., Shrewsbury, MA.

Anita ( Vigoda) West- Of Palm Beach, FL, formerly of Newton and Cape Cod. Loving wife of Morton West for 68 years. Devoted mother of Susan (West) Horwitz and her husband Alan, Wendy (West) Bronson and her husband Noah, Cindy (West) Ray and her husband Jeffrey. Cherished Sister of Ruth Vigoda Sagan and the late David Vigoda. Adored grandmother of Jordan Ray, Ryan Radkay, Amanda Bronson, Jillian Ray Corbman and Brian Corbman. Step grandmother of Stephanie (Horwitz) Brassie, Robin (Horwitz) Kamin and Steven Kamin, and step great grandmother of 5. The kindest and sweetest of dispositions, Anita was the consummate nurturing family woman who treasured her time with family and friends above all else. An incredible listener with a keen sense of humor, her beautiful smile was ever present to the end. Anne Lillian Sandler, 89, of Las Vegas,NV, formerly of Newton, MA and Boynton Beach FL, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013. Anne was born September 9, 1924 in Glen Falls, NY to the late Hieman and the late Sarah (Berkowitz) Zimmerman. After raising her two sons, Anne went back to college and then worked as a controller for an oil company. She enjoyed playing and watching tennis and was an avid Celtics and Red Sox fan. Anne was a Life Member of Hadassah and a member of Temple Emanuel in Newton for more than 52 years. She is survived by her sons Jeffrey Sandler (Rabbi Shai Specht) of Las Vegas and Steven Sandler (Lisa) of Huntington Beach CA, and grandchildren Jason, Eric and Matthew. The funeral service and burial will be at Temple Emanuel of Newton Memorial Park in Randolph, MA (490 North St., Randolph, MA), on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at 12 noon. The family will sit shiva in Las Vegas at Jeff and Shai’s home on Tuesday all day, with a minyan at 7 pm, and Wednesday until sundown. Hyman Nesvet, 89, died on Sunday, Sept. 8 in St. Vincent Hospital. His wife of 54 years, Mildred (Simon) Nesvet died in 2005. He leaves two sons, Mark Nesvet of Haverhill and Fredric Nesvet and his wife Marlene of Owings Mills, MD; two grandchildren, Stefanie, wife of Ben Ose, and Rebecca, wife of Solomon Eichner, and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Ose. He was predeceased by his brother, David Nesvet and by his two sisters, Ann Friedman and Kate Nesvet. He was a master electrician and co-owner of N & N Electrical for many years. He also was the owner of Hy Nesvet, Electrician, for many years. He served in the Army during World War II in Europe. He was a member of Beth Israel Synangogue and its Brotherhood, The Irving Yarock Post #32 of the Jewish War Veterans. Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 11, at 3 pm in Holy Society Cemetery on Cemetery Road in Leicester under the direction of Richard Perlman of Brezniak-Rodman Funeral Home of Newton. Immediately following the interment service, memorial observance will be held at The Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury St., and will continue on Thursday at his residence, 22 Fairlawn Drive from 2-8 pm. WORCESTER – Francine Smith, 55, of Southboro, died Tuesday morning, September 10. She is the wife of the late David Echelman and the sister of Stuart Smith. She is the mother of Daniel, 24, Matthew, 22, Adam, 18, and a second mother and inspiration to many of her students and friends.Fran trained as a biophysicist and crystallographer, studying at Wesleyan University and at Johns Hopkins University, where she met David. Early on, Fran had a passion for scientific research. As her children entered school, she made an effort to bring science into their education. She frequented their preschool as “Fran the Science Lady”, where she taught the children to grow crystals and build simple machines. She pioneered the STEP science enrichment program for the Northboro-Southboro public school system when her children reached elementary school. Eventually she moved to a full-time teaching career, first as a chemistry professor at WPI, and later at Worcester Academy, where she taught all three of her boys in her class over the course of her 10 years there. She was also a mentor and mother to many of her colleagues and students, some of whom had experienced their own personal hardships and took refuge in her classroom. Fran was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002 at the time of her husband’s death. After that time, she became involved as a patient advocate at The Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and was an organizer of the Jimmy Fund Walk and Rock, an annual cancer fund raiser. Fran inspired many with wisdom, courage, and perseverance of spirit. Of the many roles Fran played magnificently during her life, nothing mattered to her more than being the mother to her three boys. The funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, September 12 at Congregation B’Nai Shalom, 117 East Main Street, Westboro, MA under the direction Richard Perlman of Brezniak-Rodman Chapel of Newton. Burial will be in Beit Olam Cemetery in Wayland. Memorial observance will be held 7pm to 9:30 pm on Thursday at her residence, 10 Wentworth Drive, Southboro. of Hanson, formerly of Braintree, passed away suddenly on September 6, 2013 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was 66 years old.
He is survived by his loving long time companion, Kathleen Murphy. His family includes his children, Sheri and Archi, his grandson, Matteo, all of Florida, and his two sisters, Joann Berman of Waltham and Wendy O’Dell of Toronto.
Rick worked as a real estate agent for many years and after retirement as a courier for the past few years. He loved his sports teams, especially the New England Patriots, as well as music and horses. Rick always took the time to enjoy every moment he could with the ones he loved.
Graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 1:00 PM in Lindwood Memorial Park in Randolph. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations in Rick’s memory to the charity of one’s own choice.
