Adoring grandfather of Grant and Gregory Gittes, Emily and Justin Baker, Sara and Jared Jacobi. Dear brother of the late Isabelle Hurwitz .Devoted uncle of Sandra Hurwitz. Special family friend of Joyce Hinds and caregivers Kathy Coyle and Margaret Quinn. Dr. Baker graduated Boston Latin School and attended Boston University.He was a graduate of Harvard Dental School Class of 1954 and Harvard Medical School Class of 1956. He was a Clinical Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Associate in Medicine at Beth Israel Hospital , Courtesy Staff at Mount Auburn Hospital, member of The Mass Medical Society, Norfolk District Society, Greater Boston Medical Society , Brookline Medical Society, and an active member and past participant of the American Society of Law in Medicine. Dr. Baker was very involved with the Massachusetes Academy of Trial Lawyers, Mass Bar Association concerning Medicine and Law.Dr. Baker was a member of the Ezekiel Council at Harvard Medical School and past treasurer of Harvard Medical School class of 1956. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army from 1957-59.Services at Temple Israel , 477 Longwood Ave. Boston (Attendant parking on The Riverway) on Wednesday September 22, 2010 at 12:00 noon. Following interment at Sharon Memorial Park ,family and friends are invited to the Sheraton Needham Hotel,100 Cabot St. Needham until 4:30 pm Wednesday. Eugene I. GREENWOOD, Of Lexington, retired Lt. Commander, Navy Fighter Pilot and President of the Advertising Company he founded, died on Sept. 13, 2010 at Kindred Hospital of San Diego, Calif. after a year long illness and injury. He was 80. Eugene was a beloved and cherished family man, a respected entrepreneur in his professional and social communities and a man who positively touched the lives of many people with his leadership, wisdom and good humor. Born in Boston, Mr. Greenwood grew up in Dorchester and Newton and after traveling the world in the Navy for 22 years has for the previous 36 years resided in Lexington with his wife, Sylvia having raised 5 children together. A graduate of Newton North Highschool he received a Bachelor’s in Business Management from Northeastern University in Boston. A career military man serving more than 20 years, Mr. Greenwood served with the Navy until his discharge in 1973 at the rank of Lt. Commander. After his military career he founded and grew a boutique advertising firm-Custom Column Service for more than 30 years prior to his retirement. An avid racer of pigeons, Mr. Greenwood was a top international competitor for many years. He also enjoyed reading and tennis. Mr. Greenwood is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sylvia P. (Price) Greenwood, 4 sons, James, Mark, Andrew and Daniel (Dazza), his daughter Julie and his sister Rosalyn Greenwood Geffen. Burial with full military honors will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, on Thursday Sept. 16 at 12:30pm. Memorial observance will be at the home of Rosalyn Greenwood Geffen in Waban on Thursday 4-8 p.m. and Friday 12 noon to 4pm. Remembrances may be made to a charity of your choice
