David Lawrence Loeser

David Lawrence Loeser of Needham, MA passed away from complications due to Parkinson’s disease with his family by his side on January 4, 2023, at the age of 72.

Beloved husband to Jody, father to Caroline (Matt), Sarah (Brett), and Andrew, brother to Ellen and Cindy (Antonio) and uncle, cousin, brother-in-law, and friend to many. David was born in Buffalo, NY,  grew up in Youngstown, OH and graduated from the University of Rochester in 1972. He earned his MBA from USC. He had a long and successful career in accounting and finance and eventually became CFO of Abt Associates where he was admired by many who worked there.

David loved to be involved with his kids and his community. He coached youth soccer for many years. He was the ultimate Red Sox fan and a season ticket holder at Fenway Park for over 30 years. After retiring, David spent much of his free time volunteering. He served on the board of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association and volunteered at Mitchell School.

David cherished his time playing poker and tennis with friends, fishing and clamming on Cape Cod, traveling with his wife, and spending lots of time with his family and dog, Isabelle.

A funeral service will be held at Temple Beth Shalom, 670 Highland Ave, Needham, MA on Sunday, January 8, at 12:30 pm. Shiva visitation will take place at the temple on Sunday from 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm and at the family residence on Monday, January 9, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Gloria Crane Weller

Gloria Crane Weller of Canton, MA, formerly of Newton, MA, died peacefully with her family by her bedside on January 2, 2023, at 88. Beloved wife of the late Robert Weller for 63 years. Loving mother of Daniel Weller and his wife Lisa of Westwood, MA, and Linda Weller Gulman and her husband Max of Newton, MA. Proud grandmother of Jessica Miller and her husband Adam Miller, Paige Gulman, and Sophie Weller. Dear daughter of the late Jack and Sophie Crane, and sister of Paula Lunder and brother-in-law Peter Lunder. Gloria was adored by her nieces and nephews and loved by all.

Born in Chicago, IL, Gloria attended the Art Institute of Chicago, fulfilling her passion for painting, and finding beauty in all. She aimed to tell stories through each brush stroke, from oil painting to sculpting. One of her sculptures of the late mayor Theodore Mann can still be found in Newton City Hall. Out of art school, Gloria moved to Boston and was hired by Filenes to draw and paint fashion trends before fashion photography became the industry standard.

Gloria and her late husband, Bobby shared a love of golf, skiing, and bridge. As a young mother, she enjoyed figure skating at Larz Anderson Park in Brookline, MA, and throughout her life, she had a passion for crossword puzzles, sudokus, and word jumbles. Gloria will be remembered as a warm, caring, and compassionate woman, always showing love and gratitude, even in her final days. She enjoyed her travels through Europe and Israel and 19 years at her winter residence in West Palm Beach, FL. A funeral service will be held at Temple Beth David, Westwood, on Thursday, at 11 a.m. and will be available via live stream at Templebethdavid.net|//livestream.html or at the top of the obituary on this page, followed by interment at Sharon Memorial Park. Shiva observance will be via zoom at 7:00 pm THURSDAY

Hurvitz, Edward of Brockton, MA passed away at home on December 28, 2022. Beloved husband of Linda Sue (Berman) Hurvitz. Devoted father of Dayna Holmes and her husband Christopher, and Shari Bergeron and her husband Thomas. Proud grandfather of Shayna Bergeron, and Rylee and Brett Holmes. Loving brother of Barbara Rodman and the late Ralph Hurvitz. Services at the chapel at Sharon Memorial Park on Monday, January 2, 2023 at 1 pm. Following interment, memorial observance will be at the Hurvitz residence through Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward’s memory may be made to the American Red Cross.

Edith (Schneider) Rosenbloom

Edith (Schneider) Rosenbloom of Highland Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2022, at the age of 97. She was the beloved wife of the late Isadore Rosenbloom and the loving mother of Edward Rosenbloom and his wife Susan of Newton and Maxine Katz and her husband Michael of Easton. She was the adored grandmother of Lauren Heather (Scott), Lisa Goldsmith (Matthew), Kimberly Katz, Lesley Ginsburg (Greg) and Matthew Katz (Lisa), and great grandmother of Jared, Alex, Madelyn, Tess, Lila, Alexander, Tyler and Ryan.

Edith grew up in Dorchester and raised her family in Newton. Edith loved cooking, knitting, solving jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her family.

A graveside service will be held at Beth El Cemetery in West Roxbury, MA located at 776 Baker Street on Monday, December 26 at 11:00 am. Memorial observance will immediately follow interment at the home of Susan and Edward Rosenbloom until 4:00 pm and continue on Tuesday from 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm.

Robert Carpenter

Robert “Rob” Carpenter, born February 9, 1949 to Charlotte and Edward Carpenter, in Boston, MA, passed away on December 21, 2022 at the age of 73 following a years-long battle with cancer.

Rob was a beloved husband to Deborah, brother to Glenna, Neal and Philip, father to Stephen, Matthew and Meredith, father-in-law to Kristina, grandfather to Claire and Amelia, and uncle, cousin, and friend to many more who will cherish his memory.

Rob grew up in Newton, MA and graduated from Bowdoin College in 1971. He went on to earn his JD from BC Law and his LLM from Temple University Law. Rob loved being a litigator over his 40+ years of practicing. He also cherished his time gardening, fishing, and boating; no day being complete without an afternoon cruise.

Services and burial at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon, MA, on December 27 at 1pm. The family asks that all attendees wear a mask.  In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by donations in Rob’s name to Bowdoin College, or to a charity of your choosing.

Shalom Newman

Shalom Igra Newman passed away in Belmont Massachusetts on December 19, 2022, at the age of 93.  Born in Lvov Poland, he survived the horrors of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp during the Second World War.  Following liberation, he immigrated to Palestine and obtained his undergraduate education at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel.  Shalom moved to the United States to pursue graduate education in psychology and received a PhD from Brandeis University in Waltham Massachusetts.  He remained in the Boston area, where he had a private practice in psychotherapy.  Shalom was a brilliant man who spoke many languages and had a profound knowledge of history, literature and philosophy.  He was a true intellectual with boundless curiosity and thirst for knowledge.  Shalom is survived by his longtime companion, Marise Gottlieb; his daughter, Anna Newman, and her husband, Herman Vargas; and his grandson, Danny Vargas.

Funeral service at Anshe S’Fard cemetery, 776 Baker St., West Roxbury, MA on Monday, December 26, 2022 at 2 pm.

 

Paula (Nissen) Goldman 11/28/2022

Paula Goldman of Dedham, formerly of Bedford, and Lexington, passed away on November 28, 2022. Born in Cambridge in 1932, daughter to Joseph and Sophie Nissen, Paula was the beloved wife of the late Dr. George Goldman for 63 years, and the devoted mother of five children: Daniel, Matthew, Jon, Thomas, and Gail. She is survived by Daniel Goldman and fiancé Marci; Matthew Goldman and wife Lauren; Jon Goldman and partner Niki; Gail Goldman and partner Dan; and the late Thomas’ surviving spouse, Naomi. Paula was the dearest and proud grandmother of six: Jacob Goldman and wife Sarah, Alex Goldman and wife Amy, Joseph Goldman, Aaron Goldman, Julia Goldman, and Amanda Goldman; and the loving sister of Eric Nissen and partner Cindi, and the late Muriel Statesman.

Paula loved to nurture and care for her children, grandchildren, and patients. She is fondly remembered for her love of people, and her passion for living life to its fullest. Paula and George built a wonderful life together. She loved to travel with George, and planned trips to all corners of the world, including Asia, Africa, South America, Europe and the Caribbean. Paula loved to socialize, and her passions were entertaining, the arts, trying new restaurants, gardening, and trips to the ocean. She was also a great cook and baker.

Paula was both witty and entertaining; she held strong, educated opinions, but could bring smiles to the faces of a room full of people. Paula loved to keep herself busy and her mind sharp. When she wasn’t attending a performance or participating in an activity, she was completing puzzles or playing Scrabble, defeating people half her age, right up to the end.

After retiring from her career as a Nurse Practitioner, it was important for her to continue learning. Paula and George were enthusiastic participants of Brandeis University’s BOLLI continuing education program. An avid reader, she was a member of several book groups.

The family had a private graveside service at Westview Cemetery, Lexington.

Gerald “Jerry” Fineberg

Gerald Fineberg, loving husband, father and friend passed away December 17, 2022.  Jerry, as he was known to his friends, grew up in Portland Maine and moved to Boston after he got out of the navy.  He began his real estate business in 1961 buying his first building on a handshake and good faith.  He went out on his own in residential and commercial properties throughout the Boston/Brighton/Brookline area.  Jerry became a lover and collector of contemporary art. He was on the board of the Rose Art Museum and was instrumental in helping build their contemporary collection. Jerry was an avid golfer and squash player and represented the US in the Maccabee games.  Jerry is survived by his wife Sandra, his children, Michelle, (Eric Levin) granddaughters Rachel and Sarah, Gary (Iris) granddaughter Daphna and Adam as well as Sandra’s daughter Beth Rosenberg (Abe), their children Marissa (Zach), Zachary (Alyssa), and Zoe (Harrison) and her son James Paul and his daughter Madeleine.

Graveside services at Or Emet Cemetery, Monday, December 19, 2022, 776 Baker St., West Roxbury, MA at 11am.

Shiva at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, in the Oriental Ballroom, 776 Boylston, St Boston following burial 1-4. Please tell the valet you are there for the Fineberg Shiva. Shiva continues Tuesday and Wednesday, 5:30- 8:00 pm at the home of Michelle Fineberg and Eric Levin.
