Alvin C. Tamkin, formerly of Brookline, MA passed away peacefully in Needham, MA on August 10, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Boston, Judge Tamkin had a long and storied history in Massachusetts law and politics. A graduate of Dorchester High School, Boston University and Boston University Law School, where he served as an Editor of the Boston University Law Review, Judge Tamkin served as First Justice of the Trial Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Hingham Division, for three decades and presided in other courts around the Commonwealth including Newton, Quincy and Dedham and as a Judge on the Massachusetts District Court Appellate Division. A veteran of World War II, Judge Tamkin was elected to three terms to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts House of Representatives, representing Dorchester’s Ward 14, and to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Governor’s Council. Appointed to the Bench in 1963 by Governor John Volpe, Judge Tamkin remained an active member of the Massachusetts Bar for 62 years until his formal retirement from the Bar last month. Judge Tamkin was a member of the Plymouth County, Boston and Massachusetts Bar Associations, a Past President of the Boston University Law School Alumni Association and a Past President of the America Jewish Congress. Judge Tamkin was awarded Boston University Law School’s Silver Shingle Award for Service to the Law School, and served on the Supreme Judicial Court’s Standing Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure which drafted the Massachusetts Rules of Civil Procedure. Married and devoted to the late Jacqueline C. Tamkin for 43 years, Judge Tamkin was a devoted father and mentor to his two sons who both followed his path in the law. He was a loving and devoted grandfather to each of his 7 grandchildren whose success in school, sports and life was followed in great detail and with much pride. Judge Tamkin called his grandchildren the joys of his life. Judge Tamkin leaves his son Jonathan and his wife Cynthia Caporal Tamkin of Needham, MA and their children Andy, Ricky, Dylan and Jenny, his son Daniel and his wife Lucinda Cardinal of Manhasset, NY and their children, Emily, Elizabeth and Nicholas, and his brother Stanley of Chicago, Il. Haskell A. Lampke, of Boca Raton, Fl, formerly of Hull, passed away August 7, 2010, 2 months after his 100th birthday. He was the beloved husband of Adelaide (Ulman/Berger) and was predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years Ruth (Miller). Devoted father of Robert S. Lampke, M.D. and his wife Edna of New York and James B. Lampke, Esq. and his wife Cindy of Hull, he was also the cherished “Pa” of grandchildren Daniel, Hull and Tel Aviv and Rachel, Hull. He also leaves his caring “step-children” James Berger, Illinois and Joan Crumpton, Florida. A 72 year member of the Massachusetts Bar, he was the former Town Counsel of Hull and a principal in the firm of Lampke and Lampke. Haskell was active in the Masons, Knights of Pythias, B’nai Brith, Temple Beth Sholom and other civic organizations. He loved boating, fishing, golf, life and most of all his family. Weisman-Rosalyn (Shuman) , age 88, died peacefully on June 6, 2010 at Newbridge On The Charles assisted living in Dedham, where she had resided for the past eight months. Wife of the late Dr. David Weisman and daughter of the late Frances and Harry Shuman. Loving mother of Linda and Edward Davis and Marcia Weisman. Beloved nana of Derek and Whitney Davis. Sister of the late Jacob and Franklin Shuman Rose was raised in Mattapan and graduated from Boston University. She met her husband on Nantasket Beach and the were married six months later. They moved to Hull where David had a dental office and Rosalyn stayed at home to raise her two daughters. In 1964 they moved to Newton and lived there until David died in 1973. She then moved to Chestnut Hill and began a career at Filenes in the Shoe Department where she worked for 18 years. She retired from Filenes and enjoyed her life traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She was famous for her baking and culinary skills which she loved to do and share with others. In her final months at Newbridge on the Charles Assisted living she made many friends and enjoyed her life despite declining health. She was given the best care and the family will be forever grateful to the staff at Newbridge for their love and kindness. Funeral services will be at the Brezniak-Rodman Chapel, 1251 Washington St. West Newton on Wednesday, June 9 at 1 PM. Memorial observance will be at the Davis residence, in Framingham on Wednesday until 9 pm and Thursday 2-4, 7-9 PM.
