Devoted father of Jonathan H. Holoff of Toronto and Rachel R. Holoff of Toronto. Dear son of the late Mildred (Simonds) Holoff and the late Dr. James Holoff of Attleboro, and dearest brother of Alan Holoff of Attleboro. Son-in-law of Anita and the late Manuel Kurland of Newton. A national partner and senior consultant for over 30 years in Boston, Los Angeles and Toronto, Richard had a distinguished career with Mercer (Canada) LLC / Marsh & McLennan Companies. Well respected and loved, Richard was both a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. He leaves behind many friends and co-workers and will be greatly missed. Louis L Kaitz, Chair of the Board of National Lumber and past president of the Boston Retail Lumberman’s association died Thursday at age 86 in Newton, his home for fifty five years. A charismatic personality, handsome and languid in his walk, with a booming much imitated voice; he strove to maintain family values in business and community work. He was an important leader in the local Jewish community contributing his wisdom, time and community work. Impassioned about education and Israel he was Vice President of American Friends of Hebrew University’s Board of Directors In 1988 Lou and Charlotte, his wife of 63 years, endowed a faculty and student exchange program between Boston University School of Medicine and the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem. For the creation of this partnership, which resulted in students from diverse backgrounds experiencing Israeli and American culture, he received an Honorary Fellowship from Hebrew University and the Scopus Award from the American Friends of Hebrew University. Other Jewish Institutions with which he was actively involved include Combined Jewish Philanthropies, State of Israel Bonds, Jewish Theological Seminary, Solomon Schecter Day School and Congregation Mishkan Tefila where he was a past President of both the congregation and the brotherhood. Nationally, he was at one time President of the National Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs and Vice President of the Synagogue Council of America. Lou was born in Lynn and attended Roxbury Memorial High School. As a young man Lou served in the United States Air Force for four years during WWII then graduated from the Boston University School of Management in 1947. A self-proclaimed ‘history buff’ he returned to BU at age 55 and earned a Master’s degree in American History. In June 2006 he received an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Hebrew College. He was lifelong and passionate Red Sox fan who hardly missed a game.One of his more interesting experiences was appearing in David Mamet’s motion picture “Homocide” where he had a speaking role . A loving husband, father and grandfather he will be deeply missed by his family and friends In addition to his wife Charlotte, Mr.Kaitz leaves his three daughters and their husbands, Marsha Kaitz and Amit Boim of Jerusalem, Sharon Kaitz and Jonathan Wilson and Suzan Kaitz and Jonathan Katz of Newton and six grandchildren. Gordon-Maurice Gordon of Houston , formerly of Newton, on November 1, 2009 after cardiac bypass surgery at age 61. A fiercely competent Marine Engineer and dearly loved in his personal relationships, he will be deeply missed. Professionally, Murray’s integrity, as well as his brilliance, earned him the admiration and respect of his colleagues. At the age of 55 he retired from ExxonMobil to establish his own company, Maritime Systems Engineering, Inc. so that he could continue doing the work he loved while steering his own course. He was a registered Professional Engineer in 4 states, including Texas. His honors included membership in 3 professional societies: SNAME, ASME and ImarEst. FRAMINGHAM Frederick Fred S. Tapper, 68, of Framingham passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, October 12. A believer of music as therapy and lover of New Orleans-style Jazz music, Fred recently had begun organizing music events in the community room at the Hastings House, where he lived. You might also have seen Fred listening to live music at his favorite venues: the Sherborn Inn or the Dolphin Restaurant in Natick. His interests also included genealogy and tracing back the Tapper family tree, and reading about the life and works of Frank Lloyd Wright. Fred grew up in Lowell, Mass., graduated from Lowell Tech, raised his children in Southborough, and later moved to Framingham. He is survived by his children: Diana Tapper and her husband Jason Gorevic of Rye, NY; Eric Tapper and his wife Jeannie of Southborough; and Elana (Tapper) Natker and her husband Blake Natker of Boulder, CO; grandchildren Jonah and Hannah Gorevic, and Olivia Natker; sisters Carol Baldwin and her husband Peter of Connecticut and Roberta Yush and her husband Ed of Florida, plus extended family and many friends. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Beatrice Tapper. Services and burial will be held at Montefiore Cemetery in Pelham, NH on Thursday, October 15 at 11:30am.
