Dr. Alvin Peace Newman, 64, died peacefully in Newton, Massachusetts surrounded by his children after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved father of Jason Newman and his wife Angela Allevi, Stephanie (Newman) Morris and her husband Christopher Morris, and Kirsten Newman and her fiance Seth Walton, a brother Martin Newman and his wife Selma and their children, Richard and Staurt. He was also the husband of Linda (Schott) Newman. Dr. Newman was born August 15, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York, son of Paula (Zugmann) Newman and the late Sam Newman. He was a diplomat and civil engineer for USAID working in the developing world on water resource development and disaster relief projects. His lifelong commitment to the developing world allowed him to fulfill his passion for travel and building his collection of fine art and textiles. Dr. Newman resided in Washington, CT since 2000 where it became his home and a home for his children and grandchildren to gather frequently. He is also survived by his four grandsons, Benjamin Morris, Owen Newman, Jacob Morris, and Evan Newman. Services were held Sunday Decmber 27th in CT

Jacob Ain “Jack” Share E-mail Visit Guest Book AIN, Jacob “Jack” Dedicated to making the world a better place Jacob (Jack) Ain, of Weston, MA, 94 years of age, died peacefully on December 18, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. Jack Ain was born December 15, 1915 in Sea Cliff, NY to Julius and Clara Ain and lived most of his life in Sea Cliff and Old Brookville, NY. He leaves his beloved four sons and one daughter: Mark Ain, Lexington, MA; Brent Ain, Potomac, MD; Ross Ain, Washington, DC; Aron Ain, Newton, MA; and Alice Ain Rich, Weston, MA. He is also survived by 12 loving grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, two sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many, many dear friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife Pearl Ponemon Ain and siblings Sarah Morenstein and Herbert Ain. He was a graduate of Sea Cliff High School, Class of 1933, and New York University, Class of 1937 where he earned a degree in engineering. Jack lived a full life with his adored wife of 65 years, Pearl, at his side. For over 45 years, he operated a local plumbing and heating supply business that he took over from his father. But his real interests were his family and the charitable organizations to which he gave tirelessly. While Jack was involved in leadership positions with the Lions Club, Congregation Tifereth Israel, the Glen Cove YMCA and many other charitable organizations, the Nassau County Chapter of the Association for the Help of Retarded Children (AHRC) was particularly special to him. He served as a board member and leader of AHRC for many decades. In recognition of his dedication to providing assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, the AHRC opened the Pearl and Jack Ain Advantage Care Diagnostic and Treatment Center on its Brookville, NY campus in 2005 through a lead gift provided by Pearl and Jack. He was committed to his community and energized by working to make the world a better place. He will be remembered as a man who cared deeply about his family and made a difference by helping those who needed assistance to lead productive and meaningful lives. Louis L Kaitz, Chair of the Board of National Lumber and past president of the Boston Retail Lumberman’s association died Thursday at age 86 in Newton, his home for fifty five years. A charismatic personality, handsome and languid in his walk, with a booming much imitated voice; he strove to maintain family values in business and community work. He was an important leader in the local Jewish community contributing his wisdom, time and community work. Impassioned about education and Israel he was Vice President of American Friends of Hebrew University’s Board of Directors In 1988 Lou and Charlotte, his wife of 63 years, endowed a faculty and student exchange program between Boston University School of Medicine and the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem. For the creation of this partnership, which resulted in students from diverse backgrounds experiencing Israeli and American culture, he received an Honorary Fellowship from Hebrew University and the Scopus Award from the American Friends of Hebrew University. Other Jewish Institutions with which he was actively involved include Combined Jewish Philanthropies, State of Israel Bonds, Jewish Theological Seminary, Solomon Schecter Day School and Congregation Mishkan Tefila where he was a past President of both the congregation and the brotherhood. Nationally, he was at one time President of the National Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs and Vice President of the Synagogue Council of America. Lou was born in Lynn and attended Roxbury Memorial High School. As a young man Lou served in the United States Air Force for four years during WWII then graduated from the Boston University School of Management in 1947. A self-proclaimed ‘history buff’ he returned to BU at age 55 and earned a Master’s degree in American History. In June 2006 he received an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Hebrew College. He was lifelong and passionate Red Sox fan who hardly missed a game.One of his more interesting experiences was appearing in David Mamet’s motion picture “Homocide” where he had a speaking role . A loving husband, father and grandfather he will be deeply missed by his family and friends In addition to his wife Charlotte, Mr.Kaitz leaves his three daughters and their husbands, Marsha Kaitz and Amit Boim of Jerusalem, Sharon Kaitz and Jonathan Wilson and Suzan Kaitz and Jonathan Katz of Newton and six grandchildren. Gordon-Maurice Gordon of Houston , formerly of Newton, on November 1, 2009 after cardiac bypass surgery at age 61. A fiercely competent Marine Engineer and dearly loved in his personal relationships, he will be deeply missed. Professionally, Murray’s integrity, as well as his brilliance, earned him the admiration and respect of his colleagues. At the age of 55 he retired from ExxonMobil to establish his own company, Maritime Systems Engineering, Inc. so that he could continue doing the work he loved while steering his own course. He was a registered Professional Engineer in 4 states, including Texas. His honors included membership in 3 professional societies: SNAME, ASME and ImarEst.
