Ruth ( Fincke) Mitchell

Ruth (Fincke) Mitchell, 89, of Newton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on December 3,2012, after a lengthy illness. Ruth was married for 50 years to Robert S. Mitchell, who passed away in 1999. Norma Pilavin, her sister and best friend, passed away in 2008. She leaves her three children, Jamie & wife Nancy, Joan Almaliah and her late husband
Gad and John Mitchell, grandchildren Andrew Muncey and wife Adena, Joshua Muncey and wife Sarah, Jenna Goldman and husband Michael, and Emily Mitchell. She was also blessed to leave two great-grandchildren Isabelle and Gabriel, and numerous nieces and nephews,and her devoted caretaker Freeda Nabukonde.

She was a longtime member of Temple Emanuel in Newton where as an adult she became a Bat Mitzvah, a life member of Hadassah, and supporter of numerous Jewish charities and the State of Israel.

Ruth was a voracious reader, had a sharp and inquisitive mind, and remained engaged with current events and her family to the end.

Services will be Wednesday, December 5 at 2:00 pm at Temple Emanuel, 385 Ward Street, Newton. Following burial in West Roxbury, Shiva will be observed at Joan’s home at the following times: Wednesday and Thursday 7-9 pm, minyan at 7:30 pm; Friday 1-3 pm; Saturday 7-9 pm; Sunday and Monday 7-9 pm, minyan at 7:30.

Remembrances may be made to Temple Emanuel or Brigham & Women’s Hospital,116 Huntington Ave. ( 5th floor) Boston,MA 02116, where she always received exceptional and compassionate care.

Gerald “Jerry” Morrill

Morrill-Jerry, of Arlington TX, and formerly of Castaic, CA on December 1, 2012. Beloved son of the late Martin and Ida (Chipman) Morrill. Husband of Sybil (Arnold) Morrill. Services at the Brezniak-Rodman Chapel, 1251 Washington St. (corner of Chestnut St.), on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 10:00 am. A memorial service will be held for Jerry at a later time in Arlington, Texas. Following interment at the Chai Odom Cemetery (Centre St., W. Roxbury), memorial observance will be held at the home of Niki Diller until 8 pm. Dr. Edwin Carton

December 1, 2012

Dr. Edwin Carton, age 85, of Newton died peacefully on Saturday at Epoch of Weston Rehabilitation Center. A devoted family man, he spent his last days serenaded by arias recorded by granddaughter Nili Riemer Bückert.

Ed was born in Baltimore, Maryland on April 27, 1927 to the late Jacob and Gertrude Carton. He attended college at Johns Hopkins University, where he met the love of his life, Lonnie Caming. They were wed in 1949 and celebrated their 63rd anniversary and Ed’s 85th birthday at the beach in Rockport this year with their three children, seven grandchildren, and new great-grandson.

Ed received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Penn State University and worked as a researcher and manager at a number of manufacturing companies in Pennsylvania and, later, in Massachusetts. Ed and Lonnie loved to travel and shared many adventures in travels on six continents. Ed was passionate about political causes and was never without a considered opinion, on any topic. His love for spirited conversation and competitive games is carried on by his children and grandchildren. Ed’s grandchildren called him “Popeye”, a name he proudly displayed on his license plate for many years.

In addition to his wife, Edwin is survived by son Evan and wife Janis Bergman-Carton of Austin TX and daughters Debbie and husband Yossi Reimer of Rhinebeck, NY and Paula Carton Rossen of Wayland; grandchildren Jacqueline Carton Tame and husband Jonathan Tame, Rebecca Carton and fiance Daniel Dowd, Nili Riemer Bückert and husband Benjamin Bückert, Yair Riemer and wife Jennifer Riemer, Yoni Riemer and wife Lexi Riemer, Hannah Rossen, Noah Rossen and a great grandchild, Amiel Bückert.

Services in the Brezniak-Rodman Chapel 1251 Washington St. (Corner of Chestnut St.), West Newton (Attendant parking on Washington St.) on Tuesday December 4, 2012 at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Or Emeth Cemetery, 776 Baker St. West Roxbury/Newton line.Following interment, memorial observance will be held at the home of Ilene and Daniel Pincus Remembrances to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
