Marci grew up in Needham, the younger child of the late Saul and Phyllis Hyman and sister of the late Ellen Langer. She graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in Dietetics, and shortly after, received her Master’s degree in Public Health from Case Western Reserve University. She earned many admirers and professional accolades during her career as a Director of Learning and Organizational Development at many organizations, most recently at Trip Adviser, Boston University, Genzyme and Fresenius Medical Care. Marci was never one to waste time or opportunities. But after her diagnosis of breast cancer in 2007, she really got down to business, completing four triathlons and eight Pan Mass challenges. An avid bicyclist, runner, and exerciser, Marci’s energy was exceeded only by her generosity. In recent weeks, Marci’s daughter, Lauren, reached out to friends and family members asking them to write memories that she could share with her mom. Scores of submissions arrived from people whose lives were touched by Marci’s characteristic optimism, frankness, and cheerfulness. This ‘book of life’ grew daily with descriptions of this remarkable woman who was part family matriarch and part “energizer bunny.” She travelled extensively visiting Nepal, Tanzania, Kenya, Machu Picchu, Galapagos Islands, and Europe. She spread cheer wherever she went, sometimes via her favorite mode of transportation –the bicycle. Just one day after a chemo treatment, Marci could be found working out on her spin bike.
