Ralph L. Kolodny

October 18, 2011

Ralph L. Kolodny, professor emeritus of Boston University School of Social Work, died at Norwood Hospital on October 18, 2011. Born and raised in Fall River, MA. He graduated from Durfee High School, Brown University, Columbia University (MA in Sociology) and Boston University (MSS in Social Work). He was a veteran of World War 2, serving in the Pacific. He was a member of the Z.O. A. and Temple Beth El in Quincy, and  an author of over 50 articles in Social Work Journals, many of which have been translated and appeared in foreign journals. He worked as a Director of Department of Neighborhood  clubs of Boston Childrens’ Services Association for many years, and taught social work at Boston College and Boston University. He established the School of Social Work at Ben Gurion University in Israel. He attended Hebrew College in Brookline for many years, becoming fluent in Hebrew, and was an ardent student of the language.

He leaves his wife, Vivian (Orodenker) Kolodny;  his children, Dr. Jonathan Kolodny of Dedham and Miriam Kolodny Ben Nun of Tel Aviv, Israel; his grandchildren, Aaron, Nathan, Lauren Kolodny and Sam Ben Nun; his brother Bently G. Kolodny of Ny.

Services at Temple Beth David, 7 Clapboardtree Street, Westwood on Friday, October 21 at 1:00 pm. Following the interment at Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon  memorial observance will be at the home of Dr. Jonathan Kolodny in Dedham through 8 pm and memorial observance will continue on Sunday at his late residence in Quincy, 2-4, 6-8 pm. Remembrances may be made to a charity of your choice.

Frisch-Jean (Goland), formerly of Newton, on October 16, 2011, passed in great peace and happiness, surrounded by her family of children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Faithful wife of the late Robert Frisch. Devoted mother of Patricia Clarke and her husband Gerald Clarke. Beloved grandmother of Paul and Tamar Clarke, Matthew Clarke, Elizabeth Clarke, Joseph Clarke and Maria Villella, and great-grandmother of Samuel Clarke, Zachary Clarke, Rachel Clarke and Jacob Clarke.  Dear Aunt of Gail and Arthur Wald, Alex Frisch, Ronald Frisch, Catherine and Randall Shulkin, Natasha and David Lief, and Anya and Masha Yungelson.  A long-standing, active member and officer of South Brookline Hadassah.  Graveside services at the Temple Israel Cemetery, off of North Street, Wakefield on Tuesday, October 18 at 10:30 am. Memorial observance will be at the home of Patricia and Gerald Clarke on Saturday evening after Havdalah [7:00 p.m.] and continuing throughout the day on Sunday with services held at 5:00 p.m. to accommodate Minchah and Maariv services. Memorial observance will also be held at 2:00pm Monday, at NewBridge on the Charles, 7000 Great Meadow Road, Dedham. Paul Snyderman

SNYDERMAN, Paul,age 97,  Of Sharon formerly of Delray Beach, FL and Randolph on Oct 14, 2011. Beloved husband of   the late Lillian (Kaplan) Snyderman. Devoted father of Fredric Snyderman and his wife Gail of Sharon, Laurence R. Snyderman and his wife Carol of Marblehead, Stephen Snyderman of San Diego CA, Alan Snyderman of San Diego, CA. Edward K Snyderman and his wife Susan of Bridgewater, Cheryl J. Tobias and her husband Rick of Canton. and the late Harold C. Snyderman. Loving brother of the late Ruth Richardson and Harold Snyderman. Dear grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Paul also leaves many dear friends and caregivers at the Epoch Senior Center where he lived the past  nine years. He was the “Mayor” of the community. He was so sharp for his 97 years that they elected him to serve as President of the Resident’s Council. Everyone came to Paul to talk, to listen to music, to learn, and to reminisce. He was the floor “leader”. The past several years while living there, he had learned so much, teaching himself to read and speak Hebrew, learning and chanting the prayers, reading his religious books. He passed his time, also, on the computer playing his Free Cell game that that approached almost 4000 wins, and going on line to U-tube and other old-time sites. He also composed a series of life’s memories that we will put together in a book to cherish always. Paul was always active and often enjoyed the many social activities at the home making the others join in, too. He will be dearly missed by all. Services at Temple Israel, 125 Pond Street, Sharon on Tuesday, October 18 at 11:00 am.  The family will be at the home of Cheryl and Rick Tobias on Tuesday until 9pm and Wednesday 1-4 and 6-9pm. Remembrances may be made to Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation, or to the Jerome Lipper Foundation at Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

Dr. Norman Paul

Paul-Norman, MD,of  Concord formerly of Lexington, on October 15 , 2011. Beloved Husband of Janet (Athos) Paul and the late Betty (Byfield) Paul.Devoted father of Marilyn Paul and her husband  David Peter Stroh of Brookline and David Paul and his wife Kathy Schultz of Berkeley,CA. Devoted stepfather of Lynn Mansmann,and Michael, Patrick, Amy, Kathryn,Joseph and Margaret MeLampy,and Mary Archibald. Also survived by 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Delores Rogers. Dr. Paul was a founder of The American Family Therapy Assoc. and The Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry. Dr. Paul received many distinguished service awards in appreciation of his commitment to the field of family therapy. He was the author of “A Marital Puzzle” with his first wife Betty Byfield Paul. Dr. Paul had a long term affiliation with Harvard Medical School. Services will be held at The Bigelow Chapel at Mount Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mount Auburn St. Cambridge on Monday  October 17 at 1:30 pm. Following interment the family will be at the home of Marilyn Paul and David Peter Stroh Monday till 6:00 pm,Tuesday 3-7 pm and Wednesday 4-7 pm.In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to The University of Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Services, University of Buffalo Foundation, PO Box 730, Buffalo, NY 14226

WANGER, Dr. Stephen Lewis Age 76, of Brookline, died Saturday, October 8, 2011 at The Lahey Clinic, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband for over 52 years of Nancy Kushlan Wanger. Adored father of David K. Wanger and his wife Dr. Gwen F. Kane-Wanger of Waban and Betsy K. Wanger and her husband Steven A. Steinbach of Washington, D.C. Cherished grandfather of Emily, Daniel and Benjamin Wanger and David and Alison Steinbach. Dear brother of E. David Wanger and his wife Amy of South Hamilton and uncle to their children Sarah and Nicholas. Dear brother-in-law of David Kushlan of Farmington, CT. Devoted son of the late Ann Silver Wanger and the late Honorable David Wanger of Albany, NY. Revered son-in-law of Ethel Ross Kushlan and the late Samuel Kushlan, M.D. of New Haven, CT. Was a venerated neurologist, engaging colleague and inspiring teacher of new physicians at The Lahey Clinic for 42 years. Burial and the period of mourning will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date

Doris Pearlman Goldenberg

GOLDENBERG, Doris Pearlman We sadly mourn the passing of Doris Pearlman Goldenberg on Monday, October 10, 2011. Passion characterized her life and kept her alive through her remarkable three and a half year fight against pancreatic cancer. She was a great lover of the arts, both in life and profession. She worked as part of the team creating Bear Rocks Resort in western Pennsylvania, and as interior designer for Parke Interiors in Pittsburgh. Her beauty and dynamic presence brought her many admirers in Palm Beach, Boston and Pittsburgh. But it was her integity, devotion and outspokenness that brought true respect and loyal friends. Above everything, she loved her family – her devoted husband Marvin Goldenberg, two daughters, Heidi Pearlman-Swartz and Jill Pearlman and her brother Lester Medvene. She was a loving wife to Robert C. Pearlman, who died in 1994. She is also survived by four grandchildren Rachel, Lisa, Eve and Jason and six of Marvin’s grandchildren. Funeral services will be at Rodef Shalom Congregation, 4905 Fifth Avenue (at Morewood Avenue) PITTSBURGH, PA,onFriday, October 14, 2011 at 12 Noon. Services at Temple Emanuel, 385 Ward St., Newton on Monday, October 10 at 1:00 pm. Interment at Shara Tfilo Cemetery, Baker St., West Roxbury. Shiva will be at the home of Cindy and Danny Paisner all day Monday and Tuesday, and  formal Shiva will end Wednesday at sundown due to the Sukkot holiday.
