Virginia Ann “Ginger” (Weisman) Saunders Wyler

Age 80 of Boston, MA, December 14, 2015. Beloved mother of Lisa and her husband David Hartstein of Boston, MA and Pamela of Santa Fe, NM. Devoted grandmother of Tal, Ariel, and Ben, on whom she doted.  Cherished daughter of the late Norman Weisman and Dorothy Lieberman. Predeceased by her loving husband, Berthold Wyler of Geneva, Switzerland, whose family members, especially Jonathan and Julie, she adored. Precious friend to countless people around the globe whose heartfelt memories are of great consolation to her family. Ginger was born in Dayton, Ohio, attended Fairview High School, spent her summers at Camp Wenonah in Maine, attended Smith College for three years, and graduated with her then-husband Donald from Brown University in 1957. In addition to raising two daughters, Ginger was a published poet, a dedicated volunteer and philanthropist, a world traveler, and a one-time resident of Jerusalem and Geneva. She loved to cook for her family, was an ardent Red Sox fan, an amateur genealogist, and a lifelong learner who was learning Mandarin from her acupuncturist at the age of 80. According to her wishes burial will be private. A memorial service will be announced in the spring. Sidney Lebewohl

Of Framingham, passed away at Bridges by Epoch  in Mashpee, MA on December 12, 2015.

He is survived by his wife Joyce of 34 years, his daughter Janet Weishaus and her husband Rick of Chestnut Hill,  his daughter Karen Blessing and her husband Rick of Omaha Nebraska, and four grandchildren, Alex and Julianne Weishaus, and Jason and Justin Blessing.  He was pre-deceased by a son Peter Sferra, his parents Louis and Bessie Lebewohl, and his sister Rosalyn Dobis.

Sid loved his Framingham and was one of the first CPA’s there. He was instrumental in starting the Town of Framingham Retirement Board.  He was a member of many town committees.

He enjoyed fishing at his summer home in Monterey, MA, in the Berkshires. Sid was an Army Veteran during World War 2 stationed in Germany.

Funeral services will be private. Memorial observance will be held at the home of Janet and Rick Weishaus, 41 Goodnough Rd., Chestnut Hill, on Tuesday from 3-5 & 7-9 pm. and at a date to be determined in Mashpee. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of MA, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.  Arrangements under the direction of Brezniak-Rodman Funeral Directors.

Groper, Irving M.- Age 89, of Deerfield Beach FL, formerly of Chestnut Hill, MA, died peacefully on December 2, 2015. Devoted father of Bill Groper and his wife Carol, Wendy Sanders and her husband Art, and Peter Groper. Loving grandfather of Mollie Barker and her husband Bobby, Jodi Groper and Joshua Sanders. Dear brother of Pat Groper and his wife Eleanor, Zelda Smith and her husband Phillip, and the late Muriel Fine, Millicent Starr, and Shayla Caroselli. Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. Irving was a retired business executive, accomplished photographer and longtime fan of Boston sports teams. Service will be private. age 79, of Cambridge, MA, December 2, 2015.  Devoted wife of W. Robin Upton for 55 years.  Loving mother of Andrew and his wife Alison Mitchell of Somerville, MA and Susan and her husband Peter Buttenwieser of New York, NY.  Delighted and adoring grandmother of Zachary, Annabelle, Charlotte, Katherine and Sophie.  Loyal sister of Libby, Rachel, Marsha, Judith and Matthew.  Also survived by her extended family and many dear friends.

Joanne was raised in Brookline and graduated from Barnard College.  After college, she taught elementary school.  When her children were young, she returned to school and earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Boston College.  She practiced social work at the Cambridge Guidance Center and with private clients for over forty years. In her work with young and at-risk families and in her extensive practice, she was a persistent advocate for those in need.

Joanne loved music, literature, travel and progressive causes, but was happiest spending time with her family and friends.  She relished the connections she made with so many different people throughout all phases of her life.

A service will be held in Bigelow Chapel at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 1 pm.  Visiting hours will be at her home from 4-7 pm on Friday afternoon.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Cardiology Services, Mount Auburn Hospital (Mount Auburn Hospital Development Office, 330 Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA 02138).
