Rosoff-Doris (Cline), of Newton Centre, peacefully at 91 years of age, on September 11, 2012. Loving mother of Sheryl L. Klein and her husband Ron of Southborough; Sharman M. Rosen and her husband Larry of Newton; and Ronald S. Rosoff and his wife Gretchen of Framingham. Loving wife for 58 years to her late husband Stanley. Beloved daughter of the late Hyman and Sadye (Levenson) Cline. Devoted “Ma” of Karen Klein Steinberg (Michael), Scott Klein, Steven Rosen (Lauren), Mark Rosen (Jennifer), Leslie Rosen Silberman (Jason), Jessica Rosoff Katz (Gregg), Thomas Rosoff (Dottie) and Peter Rosoff. She also leaves 14 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Louise Cline Slotnick and sister in law of the late Alvin Slotnick. Her two brothers ,Daniel (Dorothy) and Penneth (Lucille) pre-deceased her. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank her two health care companions ,Joy and Leonia, for their years of devoted and loving care. Doris and Stanley were great benefactors to Newton-Wellesley Hospital and the Alzheimer Foundation. They were lifetime members of Temple Emanuel, Newton and its sisterhood, and Hadassah. Doris worked at Harvard School of Public Health. She was an avid Red Sox fan, a knitter and baker, and graduate of Girl’s Latin School and Simmons College. Services at Temple Emanuel, 385 Ward Street, Newton, on Thursday, September 13 at 11 am. WORCESTER – Bertha (Solod) Goldstein, age 101, died on Thursday, August 30th, in Menorah Manor in St. Petersburg, FL.
Her husband Barnet Goldstein died in 1990. She leaves her son, Alden L. Goldstein and his wife Anne of Worcester and a granddaughter Vera wife of Eliot Ginsberg of Riverview, FL. She was predeceased by a brother, Abraham Solod and by a sister, Ceil Bell.
She was born in Worcester, a daughter of John and Vera (Saslow) Solod and lived here for 90 years before living in West Palm Beach, FL for 11 years, moving to St. Petersburg 1 1/2 years ago.
She was a bookkeeper for Mr. B’s Shoes on Mill St. in Worcester for many years.
She was a longtime member of Temple Emanuel and was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish Healthcare Center.

Ralph Sigel

Ralph I. Sigel, 97, passed away on Monday, August 27 at Jewish Healthcare Hospice after a short illness. Born in Lowell, MA, Ralph was a lifelong Worcester resident.
He was the son of Benjamin David Sigel and Hattie (Perlman) Sigel. Ralph was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Shirley (Stein) Sigel in 1999; his sister Shirley Cotzin in 2011, and his infant son Richard in 1957. He is survived by his daughter Barbara Strogoff and her husband Joel; his son Alan Sigel and his wife Pam of Millbury; and his son Steven Sigel and his wife Sheryl of Grafton. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Adam Strogoff and his wife Rachael, Amanda Strogoff and her partner Emily Hayes, Danielle Sigel, and Carly Sigel; and three great-grandchildren: Masho, Avery, and Redeit Strogoff, as well as by a loving extended family. He also leaves a dear friend, Carleen DeBlois.
Ralph graduated from Classical High School and from Northeastern Law School. He paid his way through law school by playing the saxophone in local bands. He was an attorney in Worcester for many years, more than 20 of them as Worcester’s sole Legal Aid lawyer, helping those who could not afford legal representation. He was awarded the St. Thomas More Ecumenical Award in 1974.
Ralph served in the U.S. Army in England and in France during World War II. During that time, one of his most enjoyable duties was to play the saxophone as a member of an Army band, which was created to improve relations between American and British troops in war-torn London.
Ralph was a member of Temple Emanuel, a former member of Rotary, and a former board member of the Family Service Organization of Worcester.
An Eagle Scout, Ralph later used his skills to enhance family camping experiences. He enjoyed swimming, sailing, cooking, and in recent years, painting landscapes. His paintings were displayed at the former Foothills Theater, and his work was also chosen for display at a juried show at the Fitchburg Art Museum. He and his wife Shirley traveled to France and Spain several times to visit museums and to experience new cultures and cuisines. He attended scores of soccer, baseball, and softball games, as well as track meets, to cheer on his children and grandchildren over the years, and he also coached his sons’ little league and Babe Ruth league teams. His greatest joy was to have his extended family gathered around him at his dining room table for a meal or a celebration. He always had a story to share about his life’s adventure.
In 1969 he became the director of the Lawyers’ Reference Service of the Worcester County Bar Association. He was honored by the Worcester County Bar Association in 1976.
For several years he taught at the Summer Sessions at Quinsigamond Community College.
Ralph was loved and respected for his kindness, fairness, and wisdom by those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD at 1 PM on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29th in TEMPLE EMANUEL at 280 MAY ST. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN of BREZNIAK RODMAN FUNERAL HOME of NEWTON. Burial will be in B’Nai Brith Cemetery.

Schmidt-Edith (Straus), age 101, of Newton, MA on August 26, 2012. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Gerhard Schmidt. Devoted mother of Michael Schmidt, and Dr. Milton Schmidt and his wife Homai. Dear grandmother of Eric Schmidt and his girlfriend Analisa Svehaug, and Alice Schmidt and her husband Erik Duerr. Edith passed away peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by family. A holocaust survivor, she nonetheless maintained an optimistic view of life. An interest in art led her to volunteer at the Museum of Fine Arts. Energetic to the end, she enjoyed scrabble, history and painting. She will be missed. Graveside services at Roxbury Lodge Cemetery, 776 Baker St., West Roxbury, MA on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 2pm. Ruth E. (Milner) Medlinsky, 93, formerly of 11 Rosewood Drive, died on Sunday, August 26th in Eisenberg Assisted Living Residence.
Her beloved husband of 57 years, Abraham Medlinsky died on August 26th in 2004. She leaves her cherished son, Robert E. Medlinsky of Worcester; a niece, Barbara wife of Nevin Zablotsky of South Hero, VT; a cousin, Merna wife of Edward Siff of Coral Springs, FL and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and great grandnieces and great grandnephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Edwin Milner, a bombadier who was killed in World War II, a brother, Gerald Milner and by a sister, Gertrude Neviser.
She was born in Hartford, CT a daughter of Julius and Lena (Greenfield) Milner and had lived in Worcester for 66 years.
She studied fashion illustration at Pratt Institute in Brooklin, NY and for 20 years she was an instructor in oil painting at the YWCA.
She was a member of Temple Emanuel, Worcester Chapter of Hadassah and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish Healthcare Center.
GRAVESIDE FUNERAL SERVICES will be held at 1PM on TUESDAY, AUGUST 28th at WORCESTER HEBREW CEMETERY on CEMETERY RD. in AUBURN UNDER THE DIRECTION of RICHARD PERLMAN of BREZNIAK RODMAN FUNERAL HOME of NEWTON.

He worked for many years as a research chemist, designing batteries for Union Carbide, Duracell and other companies. He received undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D in electrochemistry from Case Western Reserve University. Ruzumna- Lawrence M.D., of Weston. Husband of Heidi (Cohen) father of Jeremy, David and his wife Jennifer, and Joshua. Grandfather of Sarah and Samuel, brother of Betty Ruth Gilbert and her late husband Sheldon, Edward and his wife Karin, and the late Caroline Peck; son-in-law of Julius Cohen and the late Doris. Larry was a physician for 45 years, practicing first as a psychiatrist in California, then an Internist in California and then an internist in Massachusetts for the past 20 years.Larry was adored by his family. Larry was one of the founders of the Norwood PCMA group, and remained active in its governance until he retired in March 2011. Larry was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November 2010, but he amazed his doctors, and inspired his family and his friends with the vigor of his fight against his illness.Larry’s battle ended on the morning of August 9, 2012, when he found peace exactly as he wished – at home surrounded by his wife and children. The quiet confidence and wisdom that guided Larry’s life will continue to inspire his friends and family. Donald Berman WORCESTER- Donald Berman, 88, of 67 Griffin Rd., Framingham died on Wednesday, August 1st in Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital in Westboro. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Ruth (Brookman) Berman; a daughter, Lynda wife of Harold Sock of Framingham; a son, Michael J. Berman of Fountain Valley, CA and three grandchildren, Eric Venet, Brandon Berman and Candice Berman. He was predeceased by his sister, Josephine Entin. He was born and raised in Worcester, the son of Sollie and Edythe (Corash) Berman and had lived in Framingham for 28 years. He had been the plant manager of Richard Yale Industries in Worcester for many years, retiring many years ago. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Fleet in the Navy. WORCESTER – Beatrice (Samet) Fins, age 89, formerly of Worcester died on Monday, July 30th in Rivercrest Nursing Home in Concord, MA.
She leaves her husband of 67 years, Irving Fins; a son, Mark Fins of Newton; two daughters, Bonnie wife of Paul Stoddard of Madison, CT and Arlene wife of Kent Issenberg of Acton, MA; a sister, Ruth Bromberg of Delray, FL and six grandchildren.
She was born in New York City a daughter of Adolph and Mina (Mandel) Samet and had lived in Worcester for 54 years before moving to Concord a year ago. For the past 30 years, she and her husband had lived their winters in Oldsmar, Florida, and had lived in Clearwater and St. Petersburg as well.
She had been a long time member of Beth Israel Synagogue.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on THURSDAY, AUGUST 2ND in BETH ISRAEL SYNAGOGUE on JAMESBURY DRIVE in WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION of RICHARD PERLMAN of BREZNIAK RODMAN FUNERAL HOME of NEWTON. Burial will be in B’nai Brith Cemetery.

Elliot Lerner, 88, formerly of Brockton, died at his home that he shared with his daughter and son in law June & Stephen Gerber in Mashpee, MA on July 30, 2012.  Elliot greatly missed his wife Helen and his son David who both passed before him.  The “Candy Man” and “Story Teller” loved the Red Sox, watching boxing on TV, and working Bingo at Temple Beth Emunah, Brockton. He was employed by Washburn Candy Company for many years.   He is survived by his children June Gerber, Alan Lerner, and Kathy Brickman as well as his 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The patriarch of the family will be greatly missed.

The funeral service will take place at Temple Beth Emunah, (479 Torrey St., Brockton, MA) on Wednesday August 1st at 11am. He was born in Brooklyn, NY a son of Michael and Bess (Peckerman) Green and had lived in Leominster for 45 years. He had been a chemist and product manager in the plastics industry for 42 years and had been in sales and marketing for 20 years for Teknor Apex Corp. in Pawtucket, RI before retiring in 1997. He was a graduate of Queens College. He was a longtime member of Congregation Agudat Achim and was a former treasurer of that synagogue. Seymour F. Silberberg LEOMINSTER- Seymour F. Silberberg, 93, of 43 Smith St., Leominster died on Monday, July 23rd in Univ of Mass Healthcare in Worcester. His wife Evelyn (Freedman) Silberberg died in 1996. He leaves a son, Boaz Silberberg of Jerusalem, Israel; and two grandchildren. He was born in New York City, a son of Joseph and Rae (Levine) Silberberg and lived in Leominster for 54 years. He graduated from the City College of New York and was an accountant for many years, retiring many years ago. He served for 4½years in the coastguard in this country and overseas during World War II. He was a long time member of Congregation Agudat Achim in Leominster and had been a teacher in its Hebrew School for many years. Robert Chandler  ,age 66, of Delray Beach,Fl formerly of Wayland, Wellesley and Newton, on July14, 2012,after a long battle with Mylodysplastic Syndrome and Leukemia.Mr. Chandler leaves his cherished  and  devoted wife Christine, loving children Todd Chandler of Brooklyn, NY and Lauren Chandler of Portland, Oregon, step children Amy Fine and her husband JP Fine of Weston and Todd Tanger and his wife Barbara of Marblehead and 6 grandchildren. He is also survived by his 99 year old mother Miriam “ Mimi Chandler of Chestnut Hill. He was the son of the late Louis Chandler. he leaves his sisters Carol Chandler of Boston and Judith Chandler of Hawaii. His first wife Terry passed away in 1989.Before being forced to retire in June 2011 due to debilitating fatigue from his illness. Mr. Chandler was a senior partner in the Boston Law firm of Stoneman, Chandler and Miller specializing in labor, employment and school law. He was well respected in his practice and was befriended by his clients and adversaries alike during his 39 years with the firm. He had the rare distinction of arguing a case before the US Supreme Court when he was only 32 years old. Mr. Chandler will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor and the many friendships he established both in his law practice and his private life. Most of all he enjoyed trips to beautiful beaches such as Anquilla, Martha’s Vineyard, Maine, and Nantucket where he and his wife were married. He loved all kinds of music, and cherished being with his children and grandchildren who loved him dearly. Mr. Chandler was a 1968 graduate of Bowdoin College and a 1972 graduate of Boston University Law School. Services will be held at Temple Beth Elohim , 10 Bethel Rd. Wellesley (TODAY) Sunday July 15th , 2012 at 10:30 am. Shapiro-Wolf “ Bill” of Boston , Formerly of Newton.  Entered into rest July 10th,2012 , after a lengthy illness.  Beloved husband of the late Phyllis (Cressilov).  Devoted father of Charles and his wife Debra of Newton.  Loving grandfather of David & Rebecca.  Loving companion of Joanne Cooper of Boston, and her family Mark & Amy Cooper, Howard Cooper & Jane Karol, and Lori & Peter Alexander.  Beloved surrogate grandfather of Deepa & Arti Bhatt and Danny, Ali, Hayley, Hope & Sara Cooper, and Jake & Ben Alexander.  Dearly loved by the entire Cooper / Alexander and Girish & Chhaya Bhatt family.Funeral service on Thursday, July 12th at 11 am at Congregation Kehillath Israel, 384 Harvard St. Brookline.  Following interment at the Tifereth Israel Cemetery, Grove St., West Roxbury, a memorial observance will be held in the Community Room at 2 Hawthorne Place, Boston, until 8pm Thursday evening.  Contributions in Bill’s memory may be sent to the Wolf Shapiro Endowed Scholarship Fund at Brandeis University 415 South St. Waltham, MA 02453 or the charity of your choice

Engle- Harvey Seymour of Natick passed away on July 9, 2012.Loving father of Elyssa Berg of Boca Raton, FL, Adam Engle of Natick and Stefanie Burdick and her husband Jerry of Spring Hill, TN. Zayde leaves his grandchildren Allyson and Austyn Berg, Dale and Michael Burdick as well as several nephews, a niece, grand nephews, grand nieces and many dear friends. Loving son of the late Alfred and Martha Engle. Dear brother of the late Selma Gilman and Myron Engle. Harvey was a life long  member of Temple Israel of Natick. He had a gift for writing and loved sharing his thoughts in wonderful poems which he wrote for many on all sorts of occasions. Services at Temple Israel, 145 Hartford St. Natick on Thursday July 12 at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Anshei Libavitz Cemetery, Woburn. Memorial observance will be announced at services. The family wishes to thank Harvey’s dearest friends for their support and those who have cared for or assisted him during recent years.
